Greetings and peace be upon you all, >-

    Regardless of what one might be required to do for the Salat or the "true" meaning of the word, it is required only three times a day;

    There is a Dawn Prayer
    2458

    There is a Sunset Prayer
    1778

    There is a Night Prayer
    2458

"The" middle prayer which is mentioned in 2238 can only be the Sunset Prayer - the middle of the three mentioned above.

To my knowledge, (which is likely to be most incomplete) there are no other verses in the Quran which specify the actual times for the Salat.

Please study carefully the above verses, and compare translations (for non-arabic speakers) here http//www.submission.org/quran/webqt.php

Anyone able to provide other Quranic verses that add to, or subtract from the number of salat required, please, for everyone, do so. D

    Kind Regards,
    Nathan.

      peace Nathan,

The search function at the top of the forum is very helpful at finding previous discussions on these signs/ayatin.

      Wakas

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

        Peace Wakin,

I'm well aware of the "search" function. The post was more of a "challenge" than a search for help on the issue.

        Regards,
        Nathan.

          Hi naaz,

was just curious about salat in Quran.
This is what i found in the yusuf ali translation.

there doesnt seem to be a mention of a 3rd prayer

2458 O ye who believe! let those whom your right hands possess, and the (children) among you who have not come of age ask your permission (before they come to your presence), on three occasions before morning prayer; the while ye doff your clothes for the noonday heat; and after the late-night prayer these are your three times of undress outside those times it is not wrong for you or for them to move about attending to each other Thus does Allah make clear the Signs to you for Allah is full of knowledge and wisdom.

          oops! got it

2238 Guard strictly your (habit of) prayers, especially the Middle Prayer; and stand before Allah in a devout (frame of mind).

            Peacefulmuslim,

Actually, you're still missing a count!

There are three prayers mentioned; Dawn, Sunset, Night (See first post for verse numbers)

A "The Middle prayer" is also mentioned. (This must be the Sunset prayer) But this is not the "third" prayer you "spotted".

              Salaam,

I rather believe the middle salat means that we should be focused in the middle of our contact with Allah.

              I don't think it is a timing!!!!

              Peace Sis Maria

You shall consistently observe the Contact Prayers, especially the middle prayer, and devote yourselves totally to GOD.

What you are saying would be true IF it said

You shall consistently observe the Contact Prayers, especially in the middle of the prayer, and devote yourselves totally to GOD.

                  Peace be upon you,

                  Where does 2238 say "especially"?

It says "guard the salaa(plural-more than two), the salaat the balance(al salaa al wusta), ...."

"wusta" is describing salaa, not giving it a timing.

Well I cannot see any timings mention in that verse!

And Salat for me isn't bowing and prostrate physically.

                          Peace Sis Maria

Preserve/guard on the orations/bonds, and the most balanced oration/bond, and stand/persist to/for The God in obedience.

The context prior to 2238 discusses formal/public orations/vows/bonds. The core meaning of these orations/vows, as implied by the root, are to go/turn towards in a close/positive manner. This view is given further weight by the use of "QaNiTeena/obedience" at the end of the ayat/sign. And the reference of "the most balanced oration/bond" (i.e. al/the quran/reading) provides a perfect link for 2239.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

The reason you were told of the search function, is because what you think is a challenge, really isn't if you just looked around a little bit and found out how many times this subject of 3 vs 5 vs 0 salat has been tackled.

But then again, I shouldn't even be mentioning that, since there's no Wakin on the board to begin with.

                                  Peace all,

In my understanding, the question doesn't befit to pray (salaat) 5 times, 3 times or 1 time, the question is why one must pray towards a man-made stone/brick structure/building regardless of any time? Even if one prays towards this idol/icon, why one must say/proclaim the very Words/Verses back to GOD for what has been proclaimed upon us, such as surah al-naas, surah al-ikhlaas, surah al-falaq, etc.? The Quran, in book form, is meant to be read, understood, reflected and acted upon for us humans, in order to live a basic righteous life.

Why would anyone speak to GOD by saying ?in the name of GOD? rather than ?O GOD? or ?Ya Allah? or ?O my Lord? when directly addressing and speaking to HIM? When GOD is within us and as close to our jugular veins, then what keeps one from praying (as in dua, not sallaa) via our minds and hearts (as in meditation) than to bow and prostrate towards a physical structure which serves no purpose and which has been destroyed and rebuilt several times? Why would GOD send HIS messenger to construct a rock structure and have us bow, prostrate, circumvent and revere it MORE than HIM, alongwith others and at the same time prohibit, warn and punish us from worshipping anything other than HIM by sending this very message via the same messenger? What justification lies therein Quran?

I agree with u that there is no logic at all to bow and prostrate in front of a rock structure.

                                        Beautiful danish

Yur understanding is absolutely on the right path. i strongly agree to u. Scintifically and geographically also i think it is not possible to face to wards that cubical building situated in the city of Mecca in saudi arabia, due to the curve after evry 50 miles( earth being sphircal.) and not flat If a person is in Los Angeles, which is almost opposite side of the globe from Mecca than to which direction will he face during ritual namaz ? west or east? If it is thought of as an imaginary symbol of unity, than where the unity is among so called muslim countries? many so called muslim countries have different laws, (look at the system of government in Pakistan & Saudi Arabia) more over so called muslim ummah is devided ito various political & religious sects/groups such as Hanafi/shafi/hanbli/malki/asna ashri/sunni/ismaili/bohri/darozi/barelvi/deobandi/qadiyani/ahmadi/mirzai/bahai/ahl-hadis/tablighee/jamati/chistiya/saharvardiya/qadriya and each group is happy in what ever thjey are following and differin their beliefs and concepts of namaz/isam and called each oters as "kafirs" and no each sect perform namaz with each other and considers a sin. SO WHERE IS THE UNITY? IF THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A UNITY THAN THERE WOULD WOULD HAVE BEEN ONE HEAD OF ALL THE SO CALLED MUSLIM COUNTRIES, AND MUSLIM UMMAH WOULD HAVE BEEN A GREAT POWER OF THE EARTH.

So ritual practice of namaz is siply a wastage of time and iman, a short cut to seek the favour of our creator withiout doing any soild beneficial work, and violation of human rights when a call is announced on loud speakers disturbing the peace of people.
