Becoming a TRUE Believer!
-
Hi, my name is Zaynah and I'm a 17 yr old girl from Bermuda. Though prdemoninantly a so-called "Christian" society, We have a very very small so-called "muslim" community (sunni). I really didn't have much problems with it until I got older and little things started to not make sense to me (like why did we all have to change our names when converting to "Islam"?).
and when I asked how is this true or where is the proof of this, my father would get angry and tell me not to question anything in Islam, if you here it just do it! Since My father was taught "Islam" abroad everyone believed he was so knowledgeable and went to him for answers, and I believed the same.So from then on(In fear of disappointing God, and being condemned to hell)Everything i heard, i took as truth. I tried not to wear bright colours, I had the biggest headpiece you ever seen, I didn't wear any gold, since I heard the prophet forbade his daguters to wear gold. Everytime someone asked me a question about something that they heard muslims did, I'll try my hardest to defend it, even though it didn't actually seem right to me (but i was told not to question, os it must've been the truth.). Then oneday i realised though i was doing all this, and following Islam righteously, according to the Hadith and the Sunnah, I was really miserable! And iused to always here other sunni muslims say, that Islam is the most easy religion, and i used to wonder, if it is sooo easy, why am i having such a hard time?
Then i started to realise that i wasn't doing all this to please God, I was doing this to please my father. I feared my father more than i feared God.
My introduction to true Islam came quite coincidentally (or was it a coincidense?). One morning early September, I was looking for Ramadan dates, and some dates came up on a site called submission.org. While on the site I saw a picture of a girl who didn't have on a headpiece, so i was thinking, "Is this a muslim site?". Then I saw an article called "Women's dresscode in Islam" after that, I started to look for more sites talkinng about monotheism and came across moslem.org and free-minds.org and i've been a True muslim eversince. So, much questions that i've had has been answered since then, I feel like a heavy weight has been lifted off of me.
I've not taken off the headpiece yet, not because i feel any ties to it or anything, it's just that since i'm still pretty new to real Islam, it's just that since the Muslim community is very tiny here, I know pretty much for a fact that I am the only one with my views, and still fear some of the ridicule I WILL get from others, espacially my father, who will more than likely disown me. I'm just going to give myself a little more time to get mentally prepared for that. I've been sending, articles from places like moslem.org, and free-minds.org around to others by e-mail (I find it easier then doing it face to face). Most of the people, which I expected reject it, giving me some nonsense on how thw Sunnah and hadith is the rightway etc., and some have acted like I've never even sent it to them, to avoid the topic (like my mother). but hopefully, in God's will ,i will be able (or already have) to shine some light on those who've recieved the information ,and inshallah they'll realise and accept true Islam.
Well, that's all I have to say for now! I hope I wasn't rambling too much! Salam (peace)! wink

Peace Ming,
Welcome to the forum, and more importantly, congratulations on finding your way to the path of the Almighty...
Only by His grace and His will are we guided.
Your experience with people is very similar to what many of us have gone through...Your moments of joy and happiness at learning the truth are replaced with shock and confusion when those around you reject what you have to tell them and ever so slowly distance themselves from you.
At the end of the day, all that matters is God and following His system (even if 100% of the people on Earth reject it or are against it).

Peace Ming,
Welcome to the forum. welcome
I think you are doing good in not diving headlong into this 'movement'. Some people do and immediately discover that it was the wrong move for themselves. One poster here has such an experience.
If you've been talking to your mom, I think looking up the narratives of Abraham's discourse with his sire will help you out.

Hi Ming,
For a 17 yr old girl, u surely have taken a brave step!
i would suggest u read Quran for better understanding of God than rely on what people say is true about the religion u practice.
Welcome to the forum. )

Peace Ming,
Welcome. I thought you might find these interesting if you haven't seen them already...

My favorite though is from Enter the Dragon, which goes something like...
Lee Never take your eyes off your opponent... even when you bow. Do not concentrate on the finger or you will miss all that heavenly glory.

peace Zein,
I really liked the film 'Dragon The Bruce Lee story', which is a semi-truthful account of his life.
"Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water my friend." - Bruce Lee
"The goal is to strip away the inessentials, to reveal the true form of thing, like a sculptor." - paraphrased from Bruce Lee

Hello Ming-Lo,
Welome to this forum.
my father would get angry and tell me not to question anything in Islam, if you here it just do it!
That is the problem with Traditional Islam, Ming-Lo. And it is only through this method that Traditional Islam continues to impose its power on individuals against their will.
But hope lies with people like you, Ming-Lo (and only 17 too!!). People who have the courage to question their most cherished beliefs and seek the Truth themselves.
So good luck with your spiritual quest. I hope this site gives you some of the answers you may be looking for. But remember you are not here to "join" us. I would like to believe that this site is not about joining but rather a place discover yourself but thats my view (and you will find a diversity of views here... -) ) and if anything that connects us here in this forum in my view (again!) is that we go under the "GOD" Alone banner and our common humanity...
So all the best... -)
Regards,

Hi, yeah.....that should have probably been rephased better, by saying "Believer in Islam" or something....since believing is believing and you can be a true believer in anything you want...thanks for pointing that out...

Welcome to the boards young lady!
When I first saw your name I thought you were Chinese..until I read your introductory thread.
I was about your age when I started having doubts about what people around me used to say. ( I was 18 ), although I came from a background that was predominantly Shiite. Now, I've matured and put it all behind me.I wish you the best of luck, and I hope that your life is full of moments of learning...

Hi! Yeah, Ming is my last name which comes from one of my great great grandparents who migrated to Bermuda from China, but that's all. my other last name is lodge, and I usually fuse them together "Ming-Lodge".....and when I was younger I sometimes had users names like Zay Lo (copying J-lo), however I use Zay Lo too much! So I tried to be a little more crreative this time around so hence "Ming-Lo"....lol!
