Hi, my name is Zaynah and I'm a 17 yr old girl from Bermuda. Though prdemoninantly a so-called "Christian" society, We have a very very small so-called "muslim" community (sunni). I really didn't have much problems with it until I got older and little things started to not make sense to me (like why did we all have to change our names when converting to "Islam"?).
and when I asked how is this true or where is the proof of this, my father would get angry and tell me not to question anything in Islam, if you here it just do it! Since My father was taught "Islam" abroad everyone believed he was so knowledgeable and went to him for answers, and I believed the same.

So from then on(In fear of disappointing God, and being condemned to hell)Everything i heard, i took as truth. I tried not to wear bright colours, I had the biggest headpiece you ever seen, I didn't wear any gold, since I heard the prophet forbade his daguters to wear gold. Everytime someone asked me a question about something that they heard muslims did, I'll try my hardest to defend it, even though it didn't actually seem right to me (but i was told not to question, os it must've been the truth.). Then oneday i realised though i was doing all this, and following Islam righteously, according to the Hadith and the Sunnah, I was really miserable! And iused to always here other sunni muslims say, that Islam is the most easy religion, and i used to wonder, if it is sooo easy, why am i having such a hard time?

Then i started to realise that i wasn't doing all this to please God, I was doing this to please my father. I feared my father more than i feared God.

My introduction to true Islam came quite coincidentally (or was it a coincidense?). One morning early September, I was looking for Ramadan dates, and some dates came up on a site called submission.org. While on the site I saw a picture of a girl who didn't have on a headpiece, so i was thinking, "Is this a muslim site?". Then I saw an article called "Women's dresscode in Islam" after that, I started to look for more sites talkinng about monotheism and came across moslem.org and free-minds.org and i've been a True muslim eversince. So, much questions that i've had has been answered since then, I feel like a heavy weight has been lifted off of me.

I've not taken off the headpiece yet, not because i feel any ties to it or anything, it's just that since i'm still pretty new to real Islam, it's just that since the Muslim community is very tiny here, I know pretty much for a fact that I am the only one with my views, and still fear some of the ridicule I WILL get from others, espacially my father, who will more than likely disown me. I'm just going to give myself a little more time to get mentally prepared for that. I've been sending, articles from places like moslem.org, and free-minds.org around to others by e-mail (I find it easier then doing it face to face). Most of the people, which I expected reject it, giving me some nonsense on how thw Sunnah and hadith is the rightway etc., and some have acted like I've never even sent it to them, to avoid the topic (like my mother). but hopefully, in God's will ,i will be able (or already have) to shine some light on those who've recieved the information ,and inshallah they'll realise and accept true Islam.

Well, that's all I have to say for now! I hope I wasn't rambling too much! Salam (peace)! wink

Yeah. That is great and I wish you luck.
