    peace/salam mq, wink

    'islam' does not equal 'peace'

    salam = peace

    islam, like you said can be 'attainment of peace'

    'peace' is an end-product of 'islam'

    islam = compliance/surrender/submission/conformance

    All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

      Peace Wakas,

      So 'islam' is like the process of getting salaam ? And that process you call compliance? That does fit in with 2/233's 'idhaa SALLAMtum', when you pay/comply.

          Salaam Majidah,

          It does have only one meaning. The thing is, we're thinking about it in our own respective languages. If you just thought al-islaam and pictured 'attainment of salaam', thats just one meaning, but a very WIDE meaning. Unfortunately, toluislam.com is down at the moment. When it comes back on, i'll paste the meaning here for you.

              You're most welcome, Majidah.

              I just thought of the relationship between 'islam' and 'salaam' is comparable to the relationship 'communism' and 'equality for all mankind' (the purported fruits of communism). So communism is to attain this goal of equality.

                Well the baby of communism is good but not the communism today.

                  Yes.

                  And that process you call compliance?

                  I dont call it that, I dont have a formal name for it, but "compliance" as a descriptive word is ok.
                  The only problem when using a word like "compliance" or "submission" is to people who dont know what you are referencing, its like a negative thing, like you're forced to submit, as if its against your will. You have no say in the matter, you just follow what you are told.
                  Whilst in reality, what I mean by "compliance" is to the true-self, the internal compass, nature, universal laws that so many people comply to, yet dont regard themselves as 'muslimeena' (those who comply). Perhaps acknowledgement of the source of this nature is the sticking point for some.

                    Peace be upon you,

                    I see it this way

                    (3102) You, you those who trust, revere The God as He deserves to be revered, and do not die (E) except and you are "muslimoona".

                    I do not think the God is saying not to die unless we are "attaining" peace, but instead at peace.

                    I have it as

                    Islam= Peacefulness
                    Muslm= One who is peaceful
                    Salaam= Peace

                      Peace to all

                      I posted the arabic verse that Allah CLEARLY told us that Islam is to submitt to Him He even told the arabs who claim to be believers that it is better to say they are Muslims "Submitters" , this is a common arabic sentence, "Tosalem Be Amr Allah"

                      also it has nothing to to do with Dr Rashad Khalifa cult "submission" He was just smart enough to use the exact meaning Allah want us to know about Islam, I totally disagree with his so called mathematical miracle and I reckon it is a joke, the verse he is using "Alayah Tess'at Asher" is actually describing him more than describing any math miracle in the Quran, I still respect his other good work though

                      peace was mentioned in the Quran using the word "Selm"

                      "Wa Iza Ganaho Lel Selm" which clearly means the peace process

                      sure the submissionto Allah will lead to a peaceful state of mind and consequently most actions and deeds will be peaceful, but the word islam is "To To Salem Be Amr Allah", "To submit to whatever Allah says in His Quran or does to you in this testing life "

                      I will try to bring all the verses that support the meaning of submitting, it is clear as light, there should not be any confusion

                      Peace to all

                        Hello again

                        Don't forget that in sura no 2, Allah is encouraging us to fight the pepetrators big times

                        very tough and violent words were used indeed

                        Allah also exposed the hypocrites who wanted to dodge the duty of fighting

                        now to be a muslim you must fight and even kill who attack our religion and want to kill us

                        the above is an important part to be a muslim, and surley has nothing to do with peace, rather submitting to Allah laws in His Quran

                        peace to all

                          Peace be uppon you Ahmed,

                          You have posted your idea of "islam". We can substitute "peacefulness" in every instance.

                          Fighting for self defense is maintaining the peace. Just like the body fights off diseases.

                                "Fighting is prescribed for you, and ye dislike it. But it is possible that ye dislike a thing which is good for you, and that ye love a thing which is bad for you. But Allah knoweth, and ye know not.

                                  Brother I totally disagree with you. If someone wants to kill us then we have the right to defend ourselves, but the idea to kill someone who attack our religion is?. Strange? And what when we attack other religions? Should they practice the same law? what about sectarians groups?

                                  608-Allah forbids you not with regard to those who fight you not for (your) Faith nor drive you out of your homes from dealing kindly and justly with them for Allah loveth those who are just.

It is such as turn to them (in these circumstances) that do wrong.

                                  Bye.

                                          I suppose acting on self defence(self-protection) towards people who wage war against u or opress u merely on the account of the faith that u follow(Islam), would be justified.
                                          Are there any other justifications for the use of violence, in Quran?

                                          2190 Fight in the cause of Allah those who fight you, but do not transgress limits; for Allah loveth not transgressors.
                                          2191 And slay them wherever ye catch them, and turn them out from where they have Turned you out; for tumult and oppression are worse than slaughter; but fight them not at the Sacred Mosque, unless they (first) fight you there; but if they fight you, slay them. Such is the reward of those who suppress faith.
                                          2192 But if they cease, Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.
                                          2193 And fight them on until there is no more Tumult or oppression, and there prevail justice and faith in Allah. but if they cease, Let there be no hostility except to those who practise oppression.

                                          2216 Fighting is prescribed for you, and ye dislike it. But it is possible that ye dislike a thing which is good for you, and that ye love a thing which is bad for you. But Allah knoweth, and ye know not.
                                          2217 They ask thee concerning fighting in the Prohibited Month. Say "Fighting therein is a grave (offence); but graver is it in the sight of Allah to prevent access to the path of Allah, to deny Him, to prevent access to the Sacred Mosque, and drive out its members." Tumult and oppression are worse than slaughter. Nor will they cease fighting you until they turn you back from your faith if they can. And if any of you Turn back from their faith and die in unbelief, their works will bear no fruit in this life and in the Hereafter; they will be companions of the Fire and will abide therein.
                                          2218 Those who believed and those who suffered exile and fought (and strove and struggled) in the path of Allah,- they have the hope of the Mercy of Allah. And Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.

                                          475 And why should ye not fight in the cause of Allah and of those who, being weak, are ill-treated (and oppressed)?- Men, women, and children, whose cry is "Our Lord! Rescue us from this town, whose people are oppressors; and raise for us from thee one who will protect; and raise for us from thee one who will help!"

                                          Peace!
