    Salam Aleikum

I would like to know do you use Tafseer (Explanations to the Quran)?
If yes, which of it? And does it help you or do you mostly disagree with it?

I think about getting one for me and wanted to see what you say about it.

    Any post appreciated.

      Peace sister

I say they are imporant but not a must, they are important because sure there are some intelligent humans from the past who managed to understand many things properly and this is going to make our job much easier as all we need to do is to put their understanding to the test of logic and common sense, there will be no one who can understand the Quran fully because is not human made, Only Allah who knows the true meaning of His words, He stated this in the Quran actuslly, I think in verse 37

You don't need to buy anything, all the major tafseers are available on line, I normally look at those 4

      !) Ibn Kathir
      2) Al Jalaleen
      3) Al Qurtoby
      4) Al Tabari

The url I have has all 4 but in arabic, if you speak arabic I can pass on the url, it is a great web site actually

      peace

        Salam brother,

        thanks for your input.

I agree with you fully. I'm getting tired of always pondering by myself about the meaning of the words and I defenetly need some help. And most of my friend can't help me really.

You don't need to buy anything, all the major tafseers are available on line

Thanks a lot but I find it much more comfortable to sit with real books on my sofa than spending even more hours in my back-breaking chair at my computerdesk.

          Dear warda,

All the four persons mentioned by Ahmed, were very heavily influenced by Hadiths, and therefore, all their works must be seen from that perspective.
You may just as well take any ?tafseer? book from any Sunni-scholar; it will guide you, or misguide you, just as much. ?

One example to show how un-quranic some of their statements are, can be Al-Qurtoby?s statement that the whole of the pig is forbidden for us, but not the pig?s hair!

This is just to show how ridiculous some of these people?s ?tafseers? are.
Their statements are just their own opinions, or the opinions of the people they studied under. Most of it is pure hearsay and guesswork.

Therefore use any book claiming to ?explain? the quran, but read it with a very careful look at God?s words. There does not exist any book, by any human, explaining God?s scripture. Only God can do that, and God is with you always. Use what God has given you whatever you come across, namely your senses and your own mind.

Like Ahmed said, the ?tafseer? books are not a must, but they may contain useful information if you read with an open mind and take them for what they are.

          Regards

          Ali Omar

I agree, but as I said we have brains to judge things, very simple indeed, you can't just write these people off but we can look at their work

You may just as well take any ?tafseer? book from any Sunni-scholar; it will guide you, or misguide you, just as much. ?

any book can guide and misguide, even the Quran can misguide and lead people astray, would you like to see the verse?

One example to show how un-quranic some of their statements are, can be Al-Qurtoby?s statement that the whole of the pig is forbidden for us, but not the pig?s hair! D

yes because the most commonly eaten part "The flesh" is forbidden, "Lahm Al Khanzir", and if the flessh is almost rapping every part of the body then the whole body is forbidden

this is how I see it not how the Qurtoby saw it

This is just to show how ridiculous some of these people?s ?tafseers? are.

I agree that some tafsires to some verses are rediculous, I'm blessed that I speak arabic fluently, the Quran is the only thing that makes me appreciate my native tongue

Their statements are just their own opinions, or the opinions of the people they studied under. Most of it is pure hearsay and guesswork.

everyone is entitled to their opinion but the logic and common sense is a totally different thing that may not be the base for all these opinions

Therefore use any book claiming to ?explain? the quran, but read it with a very careful look at God?s words. There does not exist any book, by any human, explaining God?s scripture. Only God can do that, and God is with you always. Use what God has given you whatever you come across, namely your senses and your own mind.

            I agree 100%

Like Ahmed said, the ?tafseer? books are not a must, but they may contain useful information if you read with an open mind and take them for what they are.

              Brother Omar

regarding the pigs hair, yes it makes sense it is not forbidden because we don't eat the hair, so we can use the pig in any thing even as a pet but we should not eat it that's all

              peace

                PEACE, WARDA,

Ali Omar, put it right. Consider the following ayats, as they obviate any things like the sunnah and hadiths

                QURAN EXPLAINS ITSELF

2532 And those who disbelieve say Why has not the Quran been revealed to him all at once? Thus, that We may strengthen your heart by it and We have arranged it well in arranging.

7517 Surely on Us is the collecting of it and the reciting of it.

7518 Therefore when We have recited it, follow its recitation.

7519 Again on Us is the explaining of it.

                Peace-

Ahmed, until you resolve the follwing, you must, per ayats 733, 1736, and 2124, stop passing on your unsubstantiated notions as if they Quranic fact/truth. It is haram to do so.

733 Say the things that my Lord hath indeed made haram are shameful deeds, and saying things about Allah of which ye have no knowledge.

1736 And do not follow/pursue that of which thou hast no knowledge; for every act of hearing, or of seeing or of (feeling in) the heart will be enquired into (on the Day of Reckoning).

2124 Or have they taken for worship (other) gods besides him? Say, "Bring your convincing proof this is the Message of those with me and the Message of those before me." But most of them know not the Truth, and so turn away.

If you want to CONVINCE me and the others that your argument is correct and that khinzeer in Al-Quran means the animal pig, then you must, via Al-Quran, EXPLAIN AWAY AYATS..., 4160, 55, 6146, and 16116 . Nothing else is acceptable. You cannot claim that your grammar argument is correct as long as it contradicts those ayats, hence, you must resolve this problem if you are to be believed.

Well, this is how I'm going to do it. I was just the other day reading in a Tafseer (don't know which/who) and found some things made sense to me, others didn't . But I guess it can help, it may give suggestions.

                    Peace

There is nothing wrong in reading tafseer. Just like there is nothing wrong in reading the Torah. Infact i find it quite interesting. Its just that we have to double check the tafseer with the Quran.

                          .

                          Peace warda,

Tafseers are based on hadith, dictionary and literal grammar. Can literal meanings take us anywhere near the Hikmat of Allah? Dictionary and grammar are necessary for human books but to learn the Book of Allah we need the Wisdom. Languages are of no use. This Book was given to a people having no literacy. The Rasul chosen for the purpose of delivering was also one among the illiterate community to teach them the wisdom of the Book. We are believers! Let us believe in His Wisdom and His Guidance for living the life of the eternal truth in this world and in the hereafter that which we have to obtain from the Book.

Pray Oh Lord, Increase me in my Wisdom.
Say Bye to tafseers, for Allah says to us to follow what is revealed in your hearts as you ponder over the ayats! Pondering over His ayats relieves us from all the shirky ways

                          .

You've only exposed yourself as such. When you resort to personal attacks, you scream out that you have been thoroughly proved wrong...accept that and move on. Stop being a...SNEAK ( continuing to insert OT into the discussion and continuing to define thufr as hoof) ...and a...SLANDERER, these are the traits of a munafiq. You have lost control of yourself. Stop posting for a few months and get yourself together. You aren't making any sense at all and you look more and more foolish with each subsequent post. While you are away, find out the answer to the following question

                                Do pigs have claws? lol

You've only exposed yourself as such. When you resort to personal attacks, you scream out that you have been thoroughly proved wrong...accept that and move on. Stop being a...SLANDERER, this is one of the traits of a munafiq. You have lost control of yourself. Stop posting for a few months and get yourself together. You aren't making any sense at all and you look more and more foolish with each subsequent post.

                                          peace,

                                          M. Asad's commentary is pretty reasonable.

There is nothing wrong in reading commentary / tafsir, as long as one knows its place.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.
