    Peace,

For Muslims, the prohibition of pimgeat was, at first, theoretical as there were no domestic pigs in Hejaz at the time of the revelation of the relevant verses of the Quran, but Islam is a universal religion (din) and was not meant to be limited to any single geographical area. There have been several communities other than Muslims and people of the book (Kitabis) who avoid pork. Among the pre-jewish people, the Egyptians of the dynastic period avoided pork some 2000 years before the codification of the Mosaic food traditions. Subsequently, pork consumption re-appeared among certain classes of Egyptians but avoidance appeared once again before the first Persian conquest (525B.C.)23. In several parts of Ancient Mesopotamia there was an ambiguity with regard to pigs which were considered sacred and unclean at the same time.

Where's Kyle? Can you verify this? It seems interesting...

Peace be upon you Savage Carrot,

As far as I am aware, the priests of ancient Kemet(Egypt) did not eat pork, I am not sure about others.

I know that the PIG was a heiroglyphic symbol to represent your animal nature that must be overcome (SET), just like the so called SPHINX(part animal part man). This is how I take the instructions right now because why are we forbidden pork and not red meat for example.

I'll see what else I can find.

Could be...and more information would be great. Thanks for the help

          Hi all,

It seems that this debate has a high temperature. Why not cool it down a little; at least try to keep an open mind concerning the subject.

PB has all along claimed that the Arabic word ?khinzeer? means ?pig?. What he argues is that it can also mean something else.
Please don?t confuse the discussion further.

A simple question can the Arabic word, or root of this word, mean something besides ?pig?, or not. hmm

Why not just answer PB?s claim on this point, if anybody knows.
If there is absolutely no evidence of any kind that it can mean anything else than ?pig?, then, end of discussion.
On the other hand, if it can mean something else, then it is a question of what it means in the context used in 6.145.

Please stop repeating the same allegations, prove your statements, please, we are all here to learn. scholar
Although I must say I feel grateful to some participants here for highlighting issues that I earlier have not reflected on. Among others, Marie has brought up some thought provoking issues which can give us insight into other matters. handshake

By the way, I find it more interesting to look at ?dangers of meat? than ?dangers of pork? on the Internet.

          Regards

          Ali Omar

            PEACE, KYLE and S. CARROT,,

You are incorrect, Kyle. Set, the neter ( principle found in man) of the desert, hostility, evil, chaos, desolation, had the head of an unknown creature. The Egyptians understood that nothing was/is by nature inherently evil, hence, they could not malign any creature by associating it with evil. They understood only mankind, if he chooses to rebel against righteousness/the natural order of things--Al-Islam, could bring evil into existence. They could not give Set the head of human being either, because as with the other creatures, man, likewise, is not inherently evil. No Egyptologist, who knows his/her field of study, will ever definitively state that Set had the head of pig or any other known creature.

            Peace.

Here is only one of many sources confirming that the pig is indeed a symbol of SET.

              http//members.tripod.com/~ib205/animal.html

Yes, nothing is inherently evil, but they were not calling the pig evil, they were using symbolism to facilitate thinking, just like this reading that states some were changed into pigs and apes. (a confirmation of what came before it)

They understood only mankind, if he chooses to rebel against righteousness/the natural order of things--Al-Islam, could bring evil into existence. Unfortunately, many egyptologists have brought a western mindset into tryin to understand the philosophy of ancient Kemet (this is the name a true kemetologist would call egypt). Saying "no true egyptologist" is like sayin "No true islamic scholar..".

In conclusion, the Pig is one of several symbolisms for SET.

If you can provide another herioglyphic for set, please do so.

I've never seen a medu netcher representation of Set in which he looks like a pig. Could you please provide a link showing where he does have the actual face of a pig? I don't believe you can find such picture.

The below hieroglyphic is located in EDFU Temple. It depicts the batle of Heru(Horus) and Set(Seth). Set being our animal(emotional) nature must be subdued. For example, we do not let the horse drag us around, we train and mount the horse and direct it, this is what we do with our emotions, as Solomon's story teaches us. The Bible says "get ye BEHIND me satan(animal nature). Anyway, here's the carving!

..a confirmation of what came before it....

Listen, there is NO WAY that the animal in that picture is a pig. Anyway, no anthropomorphic representation of Set, portrays him with the head of pig. If I'm wrong, then post a Kemetan medu netcher where this can be seen.

I see. So what exactly do you think it is? I have given ample evidence that it is a pig and that a pig represented "Set", among other symbols.

Oh, will you stop already with you provided the evidence nonsense, please. You can run that nonsense on the kids a rounf her, but not me. I used to belong to the "African Society for the Study of African Civilization" and have heard all of the scholars at the "First World Lectures", in Harlem. I, as with yourself if you be honest about it, have no idead what that creature is that picture, but it certainly isn't a pig. If Set, has the head of as pig, then SIMPLY please post the anthropomorphic picture with him having the head of a pig. What is the problem?? Either you can do this or you cannot, which is it? Quite...and accurate too.

??? Why would they be gods?? There isn't ONE credible African American scholar or Euro/Euro American scholar that, has ever definitively stated that SET's head was a pig.

PBM as with yourself if you be honest about it, have no idead what that creature is that picture, but it certainly isn't a pig.

Produce the evidence then from a credible African American scholar and/or Euro/Euro American scholar, who DEFINITIVELY states that SET's head is that of a pig, thanks. Betcha can't do it lol

Well, seeing that YOU KNOW, then the burden of proof is ON YOU to PROVE you claim, which you have not done. So, my above comment makes perfect sense, because I don't KNOW what it is, but I KNOW it isn't and I know what a pig looks like and that aint a pig lol Now, your above claim that you KNOW what SET's head is, makes no sense, hence, it is nonsense because you cannot DEFINITIVELY prove your assertion...agreed?

PBM If Set, has the head of as pig, then SIMPLY please post the anthropomorphic picture with him having the head of a pig. What is the problem??

There is no problem, because I have already given what I intended to give. Your acceptance of it has no beaing on me, never has.

Yup, just as I thought, here comes the denial speeches. lol

PBM Either you can do this or you cannot, which is it? If you could restrain your ego for once, you would know that...NO ONE KNOWS WHAT THE HEAD OF SET IS!

You better go back to the latest "World Lecture".

nope , I'm asking you, so you back up your claim and you tell me, if you can. wink

You really do need to reign in your ego sometimes, dude. wink

Please give a list of your respected scholars if you intend to take this further.

LOL!!!! What, are you kidding me? lol Look, it is you, who claims to KNOW what the head of SET is, so, you bring your list of scholars to prove your assertion. The burden of proof is on you not me, because...YOU KNOW. lol

                                I'm wait

                                Peace to you.

"do not make your scholars your gods" , does that ring a bell? Its not just for you to tell others that.

??? Why would they be gods?? There isn't ONE credible African American scholar or Euro/Euro American scholar that, has ever definitively stated that SET's head was a pig.

Why do you keep saying "sets head"? I am telling you that the principle SET is represented by a pig, amongst several animals. I have stated that the hieroglyphic I sent you symmbolizes set as a pig, the ENTIRE PIG, not some symbol called "set" that was given the head of a pig. So why do you keep saying "Sets head"??

Produce the evidence then from a credible African American scholar and/or Euro/Euro American scholar, who DEFINITIVELY states that SET's head is that of a pig, thanks. Betcha can't do it

As far as credible African American Scholars, I can reference Ra Un Nefer Amen, author of the best seller "Metu Neter Vol 1 and 2", King of the Ausar Auset Society

Its periodical the Metu Neter features information of general interest to black people, as well as occult topics. I guess I am wondwering while you are using the World Lecture as a referece but cannot name any of the scholars so I can verify your claim that none of them understands thatset is symbolized by a pig as well as other animals.

                                          Peace all,

I must say I was surprised at creating a thread I had never even heard of!
But interesting discussion none the less.

I can speak for myself. It looks like a pig and since here is much evidence to support this, I take it as a pig. Further, your statement makes no sense, first you say you have NO IDEA, then you say Certainly not a pig?? If you have NO IDEA, how can you rule out the pig? That makes no sense.

It seems piglike, though if you look at the hooves, they seem divided into more segments than one? Artistic license?
