      Hi all

A question to all those who wear hijab At what age, does one start to wear hijab?

Actually, I have come across a muslim family who cover up their 2 yr old girl from head(hair) to toe in loose clothing. Though it wasnt Hijab but nevertheless absolutely covered only revealing the face, hands and the feet, even during absolutely cruel summers.
      Is that required??

      Peace!

Hi! They say that you're supposed to start wearing hijab when you hit puberty, I guess when you start menstruatin or when you start growing breast. I started when I had my first period. My sister makes her daughter wear it sometimes, like if they are at the masjid, or sometimes when they are going out, so they could get use to it (I mean they are 7 and 10....only a sick freak would look at a 7 or 10 yr old........and the hijab on them just may inhence is sexual fantasy)......but she is one of the type that you could explain something to her until you are blue in the face....and once her minds made up it's made up, so......I could only hope my nieces pull away from all the hadith and etc. when they get a little older.

            That still makes sense.
What doesnt make sense is when kids are made to wear.
Like I said, incase of the 2 yr old girl, she is always covered up only revealing her face, hands and feet, when she is taken out of her home. I thought it was ridiculous.

            Peace!

Yeah, I know....it makes no sense, why would a baby have to cover??? but I went to a sunni school from the time I was four, and they used to make us cover, and my friend her school used to make her cover in black from head to toe and some of the girls covered their face aswell and it was like their first year of school.....ridiculous...no logic behind it at all.

Its is sick indeed. My university has its own bar and there was a girl there wearing a hijab. I cannot blame her for wearing hijab. I bet she has worn hijab for soooooooooooo long, that now, its a part of her clothing without which she feels naked. That is sad. I dont mind women wearing hijabs. Infact, i find them attractive. but to think that without the hijab they are naked or something then thats just BS.

In uk & uae, I see so many girls who'll wear the hijab, but then have the tightest jeans or skimpiest top they can find. What's the point. I'm seeing this trend more and more in the uk among younger generation.

luckly for them I'm usally in a rush otherwise I'd stop and ask them.

                      peace.

Because Hijab nowadays is sexy! You can see them here too. Lots of make-up in their face and you can even see the string through her skirt (!!) but wearing hijab!

                          Salaam all,

Isn't it time to point out that hijjab is only a piece of cloth and nothing else.

All kind of clothes can be a trend, sometimes it's long skirts and other seasons it's shorter than shortest skirts.

Quran don't say anything that women shall wear hijjab, infact what is a hijjab anyway, Quran don't even mention this, it is pure manmade.

And when we see very young girls wearing it together with tight jeans and tops then it speak for itself that it's just a tradition nothing else.

And we who don't like traditions because it's manmade we shouldn't bother about fellow sister's and brother's accusations that we are bad muslimahs who refuse to wear that silly piece of cloth on our head.

                          Peace Sis Maria

This is one of the reasons why i stopped my girls going to the islamic acadamy i was sending them to. Instead of learning to respect me they would come home and question my authority. Everything i did was evil according to this acadamy. I ended up with 2 very confused little girls.
They told them if you don't cover themselves they will become the devils wives and that he will piss on their heads if its not covered. They were also told that wearing makeup, westernised clothing and watching tv were all evil acts and they would burn in hell.

Maybe this is why Jaxal likes women wearing headscarves. He doesn't like the smell of devil piss.

                                Hi PM

This acadamy is the AbuHurairah Acadamy in Bradford 3.

At the moment i am having a hard time trying to deal with my mum and brother in law who are bullying my daughter(who is now 12) into wearing a headscarf. They are using these same Hadith/sayings to try and scare her. They also told me i am a bad influence on her.

OOPS i think Jaxal is more upset than i am. I am so glad my mum doesn't know i post here.

By the way Jaxal, my mum doesn't even know how to read or write. She has never read the Quran and depends completley on relatives, mullahs and what she hears from others. Yet she is not willing to listen to what i have to say.

My brother in law is just one of those miserable sunnis who repeats everything he hears at mosque(like a parrot). He tries to portray this image of a pious and righteous muslim who knows better than me because he was brought up in pakistan, and i am considered too westernised to understand islam.

Tahira teach your daughter the right thing. Tell her that at the end of the day, its what GOD thinks that matters... not what her grandmother or uncles thinks. Share your kowledhe with her. How old is she? Show her what you have learnt. Get her involved in this, slowly. No doubt now that ur brother in law and ur mom will double their efforts to effect your daughter's judgement by telling her what to do.

                                        salaam

Where do such hadiths come from and who actually believe such nonsense?

I am afraid over 90% of so called muslims. It is one of the tragedies of te muslim world. You indeed are very fortunate if you ave not come across the hadith fascists. In fact if you dont accept hadith alongside Quran they will declare you Kafir(now that must ring few bells).
I am afraid the scenario Tahira desribes is only too common and very familiar and unfortunately even more depressing for someone like Tahira as there are so few women who question authority of hadiths, therefore very few who will understand her view point.

Note for Tahira, just be careful as how vocally you express your stance to others in your family or the community as things can become very nasty.
You may have to work to on your family gradually. Why not start a Quran studying group within your family as they are unlikely to object. Go through non controversial subjects initially like Haj, Fasting, salat etc they might be surprised at they had percieved and what the Quran says and perhaps eventually you could tackle the subject of Hadith and try to interpert suras such as 456 and 7185.
It might not atill work but it is worth a try-be very patient.
                                        regards

. You indeed are very fortunate if you ave not come across the hadith fascists. In fact if you dont accept hadith alongside Quran they will declare you Kafir

Brother, don't call them fascists, 'cause they're really something different. You cannot call them fascissts and at the same time complain that they call you Kafir. It's better for us not to mix things up and not use these phrases too much.

                                          Salam
