MA MALAKAT AYMANUKUM - every ayah where it accurs.

If ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly with the orphans, Marry women of your choice, Two or three or four; but if ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one, (TO BE) POSESSED BY YOUR OATH , that will be more suitable, to prevent you from doing injustice.

    425

Ye are one from another Wed them with the leave of their GUARDIANS, and give them their dowers, IN A MANNER CHASTE NOT ADULTEROUS NOR GIVEN TO SECRET LOVE AFFAIRS and when they are taken in wedlock, if they fall into shame, their punishment is half that for chaste women. This (permission) is for those among you who fear sin; but it is better for you that ye practise self-restraint. And Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.
    004.036
Serve Allah, and join not any partners with Him; and do good- to parents, kinsfolk, orphans, those in need, neighbours who are near, neighbours who are strangers, the companion by your side, the wayfarer (ye meet), AND WHAT YOU POSESS BY YOUR OATH For Allah loveth not the arrogant, the vainglorious;-
    016.071
Allah has bestowed His gifts of sustenance more freely on some of you than on others those more favoured are not going to throw back their gifts THOSE POSESSED BY THEIR OATH, so as to be equal in that respect. Will they then deny the favours of Allah?
    023.006
Except with their partners WHO ARE POSESSED BY THEIR OATH ,- for (in their case) they are free from blame,
    024.031
And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husband's fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers or their brothers' sons, or their sisters' sons, or their women WHO ARE POSESSED BY THEIR OATH, or male servants free of physical needs, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex; and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments. And O ye Believers! turn ye all together towards Allah, that ye may attain Bliss.
    024.033
Let those who find not the wherewithal for marriage keep themselves chaste, until Allah gives them means out of His grace. And FOR THOSE WHO SEEK A WRITING (FOR-DOWRY/WEALTH) WHOM ARE POSESSED BY THEIR OATH , give them such a deed if ye know any good in them yea, give them WEALTH out of which Allah has given to you. But force not your GIRLS to prostitution when they desire chastity, in order that ye may make a gain in the goods of this life. But if anyone compels them, yet, after such compulsion, is Allah, Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful (to them),
    024.058
O ye who believe! let those who ARE POSESSED BY THEIR OATH, and the (children) among you who have not come of age ask your permission (before they come to your presence), on three occasions before morning prayer; the while ye doff your clothes for the noonday heat; and after the late-night prayer these are your three times of undress outside those times it is not wrong for you or for them to move about attending to each other Thus does Allah make clear the Signs to you for Allah is full of knowledge and wisdom.
    030.028
He does propound to you a similitude from your own (experience) do ye have partners among those who ARE POSESSED BY THEIR OATH, to share as equals in the wealth We have bestowed on you? Do ye fear them as ye fear each other? Thus do we explain the Signs in detail to a people that understand.
    033.050
O Prophet! We have made lawful to thee thy wives to whom thou hast paid their dowers; WHO ARE POSESSED BY THEIR OATH from those Allah has assigned to thee; and daughters of thy paternal uncles and aunts, and daughters of thy maternal uncles and aunts, who migrated with thee; and any believing woman who dedicates her soul to the Prophet if the Prophet wishes to wed her;- this only for thee, and not for the Believers (at large); We know what We have appointed for them as to their wives WHO ARE POSESSED BY THEIR OATHS ;- in order that there should be no difficulty for thee. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
    033.052
It is not lawful for thee (to marry more) women after this, nor to change them for (other) wives, even though their beauty attract thee, except WHO ARE POSESSED BY THEIR OATH and Allah doth watch over all things.
    033.055
There is no blame (on these ladies if they appear) before their fathers or their sons, their brothers, or their brother's sons, or their sisters' sons, or their women who are WHAT POSESSED BY THEIR OATHS. And fear Allah; for Allah is Witness to all things.
    070.30

Peace all. I was thinking about this very topic today on the bus. I think that in some verses it could mean yourself. Eg you only display your sexuality to yourself(ma malakat aymanikum) or your partner.(zawj.) the word ma malakat aymanakum is something that you have 'control'(or responsibility) over, and this applies to your own body. So i would say self-sexuality is fine.(masturbation.) I can understand not showing myself to people who are not my partner, but this doesnt apply to myself.
        Peace.

          Peace,

I doubt 'displaying' ourselves to ourselves as being 'okay' was ever in question.

          So i would say self-sexuality is fine.(masturbation.)

Er, is that a leap from displaying oneself to oneself then to self service sexually (or asexually for that matter)?!?

In 424 these are not your 'spouses/partners' yet. It would have strange consequences to substitute 'ma malakat aymanakum' for 'oneself' or 'spouse' in 424?

This is an interesting article about the possibilities-

Peace sc. I dont see any problem with 424. Its just like a bracket explaining that 'asexuality' is not prohibited. In arabic the concept of brackets is there, look at the verse 53 and some of the verses on food prohibitions for examples of 'brackets' in arabic grammer.

Concept of brackets? Do you mean the concept of brackets in the translated language (as one language being translated to another becomes lost in translation)? Or do you mean to say/imply that in arabic, someone reading the arabic itself would need brackets to understand and it doesn't flow but has spaces or gaps that fill with the imagination of the reader?

              53-

              except what you slaughtered, and what was slaughtered on the slaughter places, and that you seek oath with the featherless arrows , that (is) debauchery ;

Is the underlined what you are referring to as the concept of brackets?

You were quite clear. I just didn't believe what I had just read. Once again, do you think this 'concept of bracket's' exists in the arabic grammar itself? You do realise that it is translated from arabic to english yes?

Can you elucidate? Maybe post some verses in arabic with the brackets there so we can examine this concept more clearly? Afaik, there is no such concept in the arabic itself.

Why are you guys soo scared of anything that you dont understand or agree with? I mean that question respectfully.

                        What are you on about?

certainly I'm not scared and most importantly I will accept anything you say if it has merit and makes sense

now what you say does not exist in the Quran and surely never taught at arabic schools, show me where in the Quran "Not a comic book please" just one bracket that is used

                          thank you

Peace ab and sc. I will use an example to illustrate in arabic how do you know where to stop at a sentence? By an end of ayah marker or the structure of the sentence. Does arabic have emphasis?(eg !) Yes it does (eg 'inna') but you dont call the inna an exclamation mark. please go beyond the word bracket and look at the usage. I dont have an arabic writer on my pc so i cant send you arabic letters. In the verse i quoted the illa performs the function of a bracket.(53).Also if there is no concept of a bracket then in 53 why does the topic shift from food to the completion of the deen and then back to food?
                                peace.

                                  Peace enq,

I'm taking this step by step so I know where you are coming from.

                                  Previously you wrote-

The part i mean is the ; 'and what was eaten by wild beasts(except what you rescued/slaughtered)'. The exception(illa) is like a bracket. Hope im clear.

Now are you saying that there are some words not present in the arabic itself?

                                  Below is the literal translation-

53 Forbidden on you is the animal whose death was caused by suffocation or strangulation, and the blood, and the pig's/swine's flesh/meat, and what was declared/praised the name of whom the sacrifice was made for to other than God with it, and the strangled/choked to death, and the beaten to death/dead due to sickness, and the fallen/destroyed/perished (to death), and the animal whose death was caused by another's horns , and what the beast or bird of prey ate (from), except what you slaughtered, and what was slaughtered on the slaughter places, and that you seek oath with the featherless arrows , that (is) debauchery ; today those who disbelieved despair from your religion, so do not fear them, and fear Me, today I completed for you your religion, and I completed on you My blessing , and I accepted/approved for you the Islam (as) a religion, so who was forced in hunger, not deviating from righteousness/justice to a sin/crime, so that God was/is forgiving, merciful.

So...what exactly is this 'bracket concept' as you wrote in your post above? How is the exception a bracket?

Also if there is no concept of a bracket then in 53 why does the topic shift from food to the completion of the deen and then back to food?

Huh? How does this shift relate to brackets filling in? Please explain?

                                      Salam JHamza, all,

                                      Salaam Simple,

I pretty much agree with this article

                                      http//www.free-minds.org/articles/quranic/malakat.htm

The problem with this article is that one of its conclusions contradicts the Quran verses in which there is a feminine form (ma malakat imanuhuna) for this expression "ma malaka imanukum" so it can not be restricted to men only. The article does not take into consideration the verses where "ma makat imanuhuna" appears but if I follow the logic in this article based on the fact that this same expression applies to women too in Quran, women can have sex with their husbands AND/OR "ma malakat imanuhuna"-).
My point Brother is to be carefull with these articles, mainly when the study is partial. And God knows best. Peace. Myr.

Peace ab,sc,myr and all. I mean the exception(illa) acts like a bracket. But lets not get caught up in sematics and nit-picking.We agree its an exception in arabic.(illa). Now back to the topic, myr made a good point about when aymanikum becomes feminine, how does that fit? Can females have consorts as well? Wow sexual equality at last!!! And please logically show how my understanding does not fit with 424 or other verses. Thank you.
