It was banned in Pakistan, before this movie they had already banned ?the ten commandments? two decades earlier??.then in the early 80?s with the arrival of VCR came the opportunity for those who wanted to see this movie??.Pervaiz Musharraf?s government surprised everyone and antagonized the radical faction when GEO TV was allowed not only to telecast the movie several time, but also allowed them to dub it in URDU for the common man to understand.
In my personal opinion it is a fantastic movie and the Message it deliver negates the teachings of mullahs in Pakistan.

Salam All,
I have seen the movie "The message" and loved it! I also own the movie " Lion of the Desert." Great movie too! Has anyone seen the " Last Temptation of Christ"? I saw it when I was about 8 yrs old. And I will never forget the uproar and riots that occured after that movie. It has been banned since, and I don't even think you can find a copy now.

People today are questioning if Jesus was black or white. I think it's better to have no representation of Mohamed.
but still, even if we don't know what muhammad looks like we could still show him in movies. i would use people who live in arabia or surraunding countries.
Some hadiths describe Muhammad in details colour, eyes, eyebrows, hair, beard, body....so we that can have a "picture" of him!!
The shi'a draw pictures of Ali ad his sons. I am not sure if they do Muhammad.

I think we cannot give any image to God and majority of the Muslims consider Prophet Mohammad next to God and sometimes almost God so thats why in the movie they chose not to show the Prophet.

The Jinn made statues for Solomon, so it is clear images and statues are allowed, only we must not worship them. The restriction on images comes from the Jews, like most of the Sunnah.
3412 And unto Solomon, We committed the wind at his disposal. (He

Thank you for posting 3413, this verse will be my reference against pro taliban supporters, who support the blasting of "the statues of Buddha" in banyan, Afghanistan.
please allow me to point out that the other translators have either used "images" or have used "statues/scriptures, none have used "sculptures and images" in their translation.

back to the subject of pictures being haram - i think this was a later development in islam as it spread to places like the african continent - where belief in superstition was/is widespread.... parts of that person (like hair clippings, nail clippings, blood etc) were used for voodoo... and a voodoo doll is an "image" of that person.... so naturally an image would be something to fear - and a new hadith sprung up perhaps?
I have also heard that some cultures believe an image of you will take away a piece of your soul - maybe this belief also lead to the hadiths about no images?
So when photography and films were invented - this superstition had long been established as a command from god prohibiting imagery/statues etc...
