      I believe since Islam means 'Peace', the fighting verses are mostly meant to non physical fighting and the main non physical fight should be with those who have war mongering tendencies, who wage war in the name of Holy War. The above link to the post analyses some of the fighting verses in Quran. More to follow analyzing still more fighting verses.

        We must check the verses before & after of the self defense verses. Otherwise people will claim of "murder" and "terrorism". Context is extremely important.
