    Salaamun alaikum all,

This is a very interesting thread and I'd like to put my 2 cents in, if I may. I'd like to introduce the concept of responsibility to the participants of a disucssion.

Responsibility means simply that, that one needs to be responsble for ones words. I am all for a constructive, positive discussion but being the guy who sits in the defendants box isnt what i'd call a 'constructive, positive discussion'.

    I will give an example

Enquirer has created a thread asking 'is there modern technology in the quran'. I would be happy to answer him BUT I would expect him to reciprocate by answering my questions like

    1. what is 'modern technology'
    2. why is modern technology significant
    3. can modern technology be used unconditionally
Not doing so, imho should be considered an offence because the creator of the thread has wasted my time and made me dance to his tune while refusing to extend the same courtesy. I am not his monkey but the administration of this site has made me so due to their policy. The ones who stick to al-quraan should be able to interrogate the interrogator because if they don't, we're assuming all their concepts are 'the truth' and we will be guilty of shirik ourselves.

I can promise the moderators, if this policy is enforced, only the ones who are here to sincerely discuss will stick around. The others'll decide its not worth their bother.

p.s. the above thread is an example only. i havent posted in that thread yet.

Peace mquran. Thats fine,as long as civility is maintained, time is allowed to reply, and people reserve the right not to answer 'rhethorical'/'loaded' questions...
peace all. ps; there is a difference between 'interrogation' and asking questions...

        Peace

        Disrespectful*
Christ, if you're going to accuse me of something at least use the proper word.

thanks for the correct word. I always confuse the English prefixes, more when the prefixes un- and -dis mean the same, opposite, reverse, not.

        I really appreciate the correction.

I consider it a gross disrespect when people confuse prefixes. Apologise. Immediately, please.

          Peace,

I do have to agree with mquran. My part is to stay friendly, so i only apologize for that to people. But if people want to be taken seriously, they should stop this behaviour. And i agree the mod's should talk about who to allow in the virtual masjid to a certain degree.

            disproportionate reprimand!

I consider it a gross disrespect when people confuse prefixes. Apologise. Immediately, please.

Peace all. I would have to say that WHEN people are civil, respectful, and ask appropriate questions, then most on this forum do answer questions...Sometimes when people dont respond, its because of the perceived 'attitude' of the poster... Also I think some people are trying to assume that a poster has the time to answer mutiple posters, and several questions,in a very short time...
And,conversely, not everbody answers the questions that are posted in the 'critical' section either....So i would suggest being consistent, and even-handed if good discussions are what is wanted...
Peace all. ps;look forward to some even-handed discussions...

I agree, I would like to add another addendum. Temper the sugary sweetness please or get sprayed with some skin paint. It's appalling. We are here to have a debate and discussion about meaty matters with substance and potatoes, not make best friends. Many times someone will be getting right to the point, the crux of the issue as it were without frills and lace and they are perceived as having an attitude and accused of conduct misdemeanours. I would suggest sticking with the substance and ignoring the rest if they do have something of substance to add. Many people do this as well. Perceptions are a tricky business. They are all kinds on any forum and everyone cannot be made happy no matter how hard one tries.

When people start speaking in tongues...that's where I draw the line.
