Courageous Israeli Pilots refuse to endanger Palestinian civilians.
Guardian Unlimited | Special reports | Israeli pilots refuse to fly assassination missions "A group of Israeli airforce pilots declared yesterday that they would refuse to fly missions which could endanger civilians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
The declaration was aimed at Israel's policy of assassinating activists of Hamas, Islamic Jihad and the Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigade. The 27 pilots sent a letter to the commander of Israel's airforce refusing to carry out duties, which include track and kill operations, in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. One of the pilots told Israeli television that the letter said 'We, veteran pilots and active pilots alike...are opposed to carrying out illegal and immoral attacks, of the type carried out by Israel in the territories.
'We, who have been educated to love the state of Israel refuse to take part in airforce attacks in civilian population centres. We refuse to continue harming innocent civilians.' "

Peace,
They are good doers, but, if they do not accept the oneness of God and try to serve Him Alone then their works (not matter how good) are nullified on J-day
The example of those who reject their Lord is that their works are like ashes, on which the wind blows strongly on a stormy day, they cannot get anything of what they earned. Such is the farthest misguidance.(141As for those who reject, their works are like a mirage in the desert. A thirsty person thinks it is water, until he reaches it, he finds it is nothing; and he finds God there and He pays him his due, and God is swift in judgment.(2439)That is because they followed that which angered God, and they hated that which pleased Him. Thus, He nullified their works.(472 -

Thanks brother layth for your response; my question in fact was Are these people amongst those mentioned in 7181?
These people are doing things that please God, so certainly they cannot be amongst those mentioned in 4728 who hate what pleases him.
Any way I do agree with your explanation in general; however I believe that TO SERVE HIM ALONE means in other words ?TO DO GOOD DEEDS? To follow his divine laws, if there is more to it? Then please do explain.
My understanding is that our beliefs are reflected through our conduct /deeds, our conduct/deeds are the criterion through which the Almighty on JD will judge us.
O mankind! Lo! We have created you male and female, and have made you nations and tribes that ye may know one another. Lo! THE NOBLEST OF YOU, IN THE SIGHT OF ALLAH, IS THE BEST IN CONDUCT. Lo! Allah is Knower, Aware. 4913.
Say I AM ONLY A MORTAL LIKE YOU; it is revealed to me that YOUR GOD IS ONE ALLAH , therefore WHOEVER HOPES TO MEET HIS LORD, HE SHOULD DO GOOD DEEDS, and NOT JOIN ANY ONE IN THE SERVICE OF HIS LORD. 18110.
Then how will it be when We shall gather them together on a day about which there is no doubt, and EVERY SOUL SHALL BE FULLY PAID WHAT IT HAS EARNED, and THEY SHALL NOT BE DEALT WITH UNJUSTLY? 325.
So. he who has done AN ATOM'S WEIGHT OF GOOD SHALL SEE IT 99 7.
And he who has done an atom's weight of evil shall see it. 99 8.And your Lord will most surely PAY BACK TO ALL THEIR DEEDS IN FULL; surely He is aware of what they do. 11111.
peace.

peace jankren/sugar/enquirer/jm/all,
thank you all for your kind words group
jankren- Anyway, please anyone enlighten me regarding Al Quran 1418 because I kind of see it as a contradiction in Al Quran.
- Lo! THOSE WHO DISBELIEVE and DEAL IN WRONG, Allah will never forgive them, neither will He guide them unto a road,
According to the above verse I understand that those who disbelieve, but do nor deal in wrong have a chance to be forgiven by the lord who is the most gracious, the most merciful.
- And the Unbelievers said to their messengers "BE SURE WE SHALL DRIVE YOU OUT OF OUR LAND, or YE SHALL RETURN TO OUR RELIGION." But their Lord inspired (this Message) to them "VERILY WE SHALL CAUSE THE WRONG-DOERS TO PERISH!
- "And verily We shall cause you to abide in the land, and succeed them. This for such as fear the Time when they shall stand before My tribunal,- such as fear the punishment denounced."
- But they sought victory and decision (there and then), and frustration was the lot of every powerful OBSTINATE TRANSGRESSOR.
- In front of such a one is Hell, and he is given, for drink, boiling fetid water.
- In gulps will he sip it, but never will he be near swallowing it down his throat death will come to him from every quarter, yet will he not die and in front of him will be a chastisement unrelenting.
- The parable of those who reject their Lord is that their works are as ashes, on which the wind blows furiously on a tempestuous day No power have they over aught that they have earned that is the straying far, far (from the goal).
if we look at the verse 1413 we see that those who disbelieved were also acting unjustly and were wrongdoers, my understanding is that these are the type of people whose actions will be like ashes as in 1418
- Those WHO BELIEVE and obscure not their belief BY WRONGDOING, theirs is safety; and they are rightly guided.
Even for the believers the security is promised if they do not obscure their belief by wrongdoings.
this is from the link provided by bro JM and I agree with his views.
Iman is to believe in God's value system ; a value system that does not come from the society, but from something outside God ; a value system in which social promotion is not the goal of life ; a value system in which the ultimate reward is in the hereafter .
Iman should not be an opinion about the existence of something ; iman is the real conviction that God will, in the hereafter, requite us for our deeds.
When our belief is that the rewards are to be seek for in the hereafter, and not in earthly life ; there can be a shift in our concepts of "right" and "wrong". When we expect rewards only in the earthly life, the "right" is that serve our interests. But when we expect rewards only in the hereafter, the "right" is what serve the interests of humankind.
IMHO, the basic message of God is "Act for humankind, not only your you, and you will be rewarded for that in the hereafter".Shirk is to believe in a false value system.
As an example, believing that killing female children is a good deed is shirk.
And taking one's value system from any political or religious ideology designed to serve the interests of some group of people (and not humankind) is shirk.Kufr is to know what the right value system is, while refusing to live by it.
thanks JMbravo
sugar- erm... don't you think she's got her hand the wrong way round?
rotfl yes but it alright outside england.
-
salaam jankren
could you elaborate on the contradiction ?
lk
According to 1418, the deeds of people who reject God (Atheists, etc..) are like ashes, which means they don't count. In the meanwhile, 325 shows the opposite by saying every soul shall be paid fully for what he earned and shall be dealt with justly.
Please anyone explain about this. )

I would only like to add that actions matter to people while intentions matter to God.
Hmmmm I?m not too sure about that....dare i ask for evidence?

Peace Sugar,
I would only like to add that actions matter to people while intentions matter to God.
Hmmmm I?m not too sure about that....dare i ask for evidence?
People cannot take you to court based on your intentions. What matters to people is your actions, regardless of whether you intended good or bad. You cannot take somebody to court just because you thought that he thought bad of you, can you? No human judge will allow you to blame others based on what you think they think! Not to mention that you will not be rewarded justly for your good deeds.
With Allah, we will be judgded in JD based on our good intentions and only bad actions! I will explain my understanding.(160
The good person intention is even better than his good deeds. He would wish to help others much more if only he could. While the bad person intention is even worse than his bad actions. He would wish to hurt people much more if only he could but because Allah is All Forgiving, He will only take us accountable for our bad action and not bad intentions. Why do you think your reward for your good deed is multiplied in JD? It is because your intention to do the good was much bigger than your action no matter how big your action was in this Dunya. We are created with limited physical abilities but not our intentions. And because Allah is All Kareem= All Generous, He will not reward us based on our "limited" good physical action but based on our "unlimited" good intentions. I can say that the size of our heaven, each of us, is the size of each good intentions and even more. But the size of each's Hell is the size of each's bad action and not more, because Allah forgives our bad intentions as long as we don't act upon them!

2453 And they swear by God with their strongest oaths that if you would only command them they would mobilize. Say "Do not swear, for obedience is an obligation. God is Expert over what you do."
Waaqsamoo biAllahi jahda aymanihimla-in amartahum layakhrujunna qul la tuqsimoo taAAatunmaAAroofatun inna Allaha khabeerun bima taAAmaloona
It would appear that actions are important to God. But the actions that are important are those done in obedience so intention will definitely matter, One's willingness to actually fulfill their obligation and the action to show their willingness. I wonder if one could claim to have done right if his/her actions turned out to be in obedience to God, but were done unintentionally. Do they still get credit for those actions?
-
Peace Zack,
I wonder if one could claim to have done right if his/her actions turned out to be in obedience to God, but were done unintentionally. Do they still get credit for those actions?
It is not ye who slew them; it was God when thou threwest (a handful of dust), it was not thy act, but God's in order that He might test the Believers by a gracious trial from Himself for God is He Who heareth and knoweth (all things).
(17Whatever good, (O man!) happens to thee, is from God; but whatever evil happens to thee, is from thy (own) soul. and We have sent thee as an apostle to (instruct) mankind. And enough is God for a witness.
(79We don't have to do the good all by ourselves. We can only intend it and do what we can about it and leave the rest to Allah. But if we did not intend the good to begin with and then whatever we have done turned out for the good, what credit can we take for ourselves? It would purely be the work of Allah.
-
Peace sis taj / all,
I do agree with you in general regarding the importance of ?good or bad intentions? but the concept of reward and punishment is based mainly on the execution of these intentions through your actions/deeds and not just on intentions
This is the very first hadith of bukhari and my understanding is that the concept of the reward based upon the intentions is mainly based on this hadiths .
Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith
Hadith 1.1 Narrated by - Umar bin Al Khattab
I heard Allah's Apostle saying, "The reward of deeds depends upon the intentions and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended. So whoever emigrated for worldly benefits or for a woman to marry, his emigration was for what he emigrated for."The good person intention is even better than his good deeds. He would wish to help others much more if only he could.
Again I agree that good intentions are important but their execution is more important.
For example if I see on TV that a child is desperately in need of blood that matches my blood group?my intention is to do good and donate my blood to help that kid, I might score some points for my good intentions but unless I convert my good intention into action and practically help save the kids I will not be awarded the full points reserved for such act.Allah forgives our bad intentions as long as we don't act upon them!
I agree.
sis taj this is the verse you have mentioned and it too talks about deeds
- WHOEVER BRINGS A GOOD DEED, HE SHALL HAVE TEN LIKE IT, AND WHOEVER BRINGS AN EVIL DEED, HE SHALL BE RECOMPENSED ONLY WITH THE LIKE OF IT, AND THEY SHALL NOT BE DEALT WITH UNJUSTLY
