Muslim Women Marrying Non-Muslim Men?
-
As Salaam Alaikum,
Sruah 2221
And do not marry the pagain women unless they come to believe; and a Muslim slave girl is better than a pagan woman, even though she may attract you; and do not give (your women) in marriage to pagan men unless they come to believe; and a Muslim slave is better than a pagan even though he may attract you...
Ok, I can establish that Muslim women are not allow to marry pagans, neither are men.
Now my question is the "believing part". The Quran later says that Muslim men can marry People of the Book. BUt wouldn't that present a contradiction???
I mean, currently I believe that there are Muslims and then there are Believerse. I believe that you can be Muslim, but not exactly a believer yet... like there are certain stages.
Now my question is, is the word "believe" suppose to be there?
Could someone please present an argument on who Muslim women (and men) are allowed and not allowed to marry using the Quran and taking the verses that mention marriage?
salaam

I'm wondering about this too.
Who can we marry? Can we marry typical Christians? What about people who just believe in God and try to do good, but who dont think that someone is going to Hell for believing Jesus is God (in other words, the person only believes in God and only God, but doesnt necessarily think others who dont do the same are wrong).
Please help.
-
salam.
Does he/she believe God is one?
...Jesus is NOT the son of God?
..nor is Jesus the human form is God?What is his/her concept of God?
-
No concept. Just God is God. Just like me.
But, the person doesnt believe that other people's beliefs (e.g. Jesus being God) are necessarily wrong.

What in the world is a "non-muslim?"
You can guess about whether a person is actually good by their actions. If their actions are genuinly good, then they are followers of God. If they aren't good people, then there's no point in marrying them (unless they are very very old and very very rich). -
Peace
a muslim does not mean a good person.
a muslim means a submitter to God
the criteria for being a submitter to God encompasses more than being a good person.
-
peace boost,
what does "submitter to God" mean, exactly? and what exactly is god?
I think if a person is a good person. He/she does good things for the right reasons, then he/she is a submitter to God.
Because what are the attributes of god mentioned in the quran? I think if a person displays those attributes, then he is serving god, isn't he?Elke, you have to be very old, and very rich. So I can wait until you die and take your money voodoo >D. But since you don't have any, I'm sorry to say I can't. ( Also, you'd get arrested if you marry me here. I don't know how the laws are in France, though.

o
what the...!
lol. what a drama. ;Dsomeone who does good doesnt mean he believe in God. But a believer, with God's will, will do good.

Are all Muslims submitters to GOD, and if so are they born that way. Where are you getting this definition. From my understanding Muslims are a Group of people, but can you not be born a muslim and if so does that me you are a submitter to God at birth.

Peace Abuja
muslim in arabic = submitter (to God). that's all i meant. so the label submitter to God refers to a group of people who have submitted to God, not just that they are good people. So it really has nothing to do with the title people have at birth. i was looking at it more from the meaning of this label for a group of people found in the quran.
What i meant to say to phoenix was that you could be a good person and not be a submitter, but if you're a submitter you have to be a good person. so being a good person is not the criterion for being a submitter.

What is God?
what you think about God is probably not what I think about God or what Boost thinks about God. We all have different (and wrong) interpretations of God. Because we have never verified that understanding. We havn't reached that state yet.
The Quran lays out a path for us. If we follow that path, we will have true knowledge of God, I believe. And it gives us certain "qualities" of God to go by.
If the quran tells us that God is Merciful. And tells us to serve God.
We must serve the quality of merciful.
If a person shows mercy, he is acting like a submitter/follower of God.But what it all comes down to is the right mind set. The quran tells us about this too.
We have to stay at peace. And we need to question ourselves and our beliefs so that we are sure that what we believe is actually the truth. We are all at different stages in our spiritual development, but if our mindset is the same, we'll all end up in the same place.
The worst thing a person can do is to stop questioning themselves. To just assume that what they've learned is true and leave it at that. -

Peace, here's my thoughts
True Islam was never meant to be an exclusive religion, as stated in 262 and 569. It is basically monotheism, belief in one God and not associating anything or anyone with Him. People of the Book are believers of this same concept. The pure meaning of your quoted verse I think, is simply understood as anyone, (even if he/she is not a 'Muslim' by today's understanding), just as long as he/she believes in one God, the last day, and does good work, then that person is a believer.
Islam is a way of life, not a mere religion by today's understanding...
-
Salam,
I think that the "people of the book" are not a big group today and/or they rarely exists.
So to marry a believer (one who set up no partners to God) is a matter you have to deal with for your own good.
Because if you look at verse 971-72 it says that believing men and women are allies to one another. And I guess all wish the same for your spouse as for yourself. And who want a spouse that already from the beginning is doomed of God because of his lack of beliefs!?
So the verse 2221 is logic when it says do not marry those set up partners.....
But I know this can be tricky because i know that some God alone people think that traditional muslims like sunni and shia are also idolworshipper in some way due to their blind faith in Kaaba in Makka, yeah you know.
So I think, use your inner thoughts your heart when choose the one you will get married to, because in the end only God knows who is a right believer after all.
Peace Sis Majidah

ACCORDING TO WHAT YOU ARE SAYING HERE I WOULD HAVE TO REPLY SAYING. ME AND YOU HAVE A VERY SIMILIAR REASON OF WHO GOD IS. AND WHAT YOU HAVE SAID HERE IS EXACTLY WHAT WE SHOULD ALL BE DOING. TO QUOTE SOME OTHER GENIOUS "YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD.''SINCERELY, ABUJA

I wanted to ask a question but realised there was this thread already floating about.
"This day are (all) things good and pure made lawful unto you. The food of the People of the Book is lawful unto you and yours is lawful unto them. (Lawful unto you in marriage) are (not only) chaste women who are believers, but chaste women among the People of the Book, revealed before your time,- when ye give them their due dowers, and desire chastity, not lewdness, nor secret intrigues if any one rejects faith, fruitless is his work, and in the Hereafter he will be in the ranks of those who have lost (all spiritual good)." (55 - Yusuf Ali)
My question is, do people here have the same understanding as the traditionalists that only Muslim men are allowed to marry women from the people of the book? Because if this verse is addressing men only, does this mean that the food of the people of the book is not lawful for believing women?
