When the Call for Prayer is Heard
-
O you who believe! when the call is made for prayer on Friday, then hasten to the remembrance of Allah and leave off trading; that is better for you, if you know.
But when the prayer is ended, then disperse abroad in the land and seek of Allah's grace, and remember Allah much, that you may be successful.
And when they see merchandise or sport they break up for It, and leave you standing. Say What is with Allah is better than sport and (better) than merchandise, and Allah is the best of Sustainers.I know there are issues with translation here regarding 'Friday', but let's forget that for one moment and concentrate on one thing in specific...
What is the nature of this call? Or should I say, what is it's content?
-
Peace be upon you,
"Hey Al -Quraishi! Lets go meditate!"
-
Lol
Does anyone have a more concise response?

The day of Jumu'ah is not necessarily Friday, can be any day. Moslems who have prophet amongst them, will any time be called for gathering, male or female !

Please read the original post properly...

Indeed, it is one of the greatest arguments Hadith-proponents use against Muslims who adhere to the religious doctrines of the Qur'an alone.
I am very intrigued to see what the replies here are, however no-one seems to have been able to post an adequate answer to specific question.

I worry you can not

I was serious! )
What makes you think it is something more than that? It is only because WE ALL have been "taught" that it is some elaborate ceremony/speech, but the God simply said "when you are called".
If I said, "when the call is made for dinner, leave all playing and come and eat", what kind of call will you be expecting? Is you mother suppossed to put her hands beside hear ears and say "This food is the greatest..This food is the greatest....There is no food but my food...there is no food but my food...etc etc"?
No, she is gonna say "get your but in here and eat, you can go play later"
Just as an example.
This verse is about people being assembled(jumah), this has nothing to do with a day of the week(friday) nor any religios ceremony, because the people were ALREADY gathered, so why would you have to call them to STAY GATHERED? This verse is about people who are gathered doing buisness or whatever and now its time to PROGRAM the subconcios(salaat) because the subconcious(nafs) is most receptive at certain times.

Friday is a significant week day and sacred in many religions. In old English, the name is derived from Frige, "the goddess of beauty". In Hinduism, the origin comes from the Vedic god of Venus as Shukra, praising and thanking its beauty, sacrifices and givings, thus shukrawar (Friday). The most popular goddess was known as Freya after whom Friday was named, due to her beauty, sex, war, love, prophecies and attractions.
The Sabbath day in Judaism falls on a Friday associated with their god Ezra. In Christianity, the Good Friday at Easter and their god Je-Sus's birth thought to have fallen on a Friday (via Greek and Roman ideologies). In the Quran Allat, Aluzzah and Mannat were goddesses along with other gods such as Yaghuth, Habul, etc. referred to as daughters and sons of Allah. Friday or Jummah, as essential and sacred as it already was, carried its significance into the Arab world to love and obey this al-mighty al-merciful Allah. As much as the myths and mystics are well known in all religions, the Arabian mythology has its own fascinations, such as the Arabian Nights, The Magic Carpet, Alladdin and the Magic Lamp, Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, The Evil Eye, The Hand of Fatema, and so forth.
During Muhammad's times, the world population was around 750 million and today it is well over 6.5 billion. It is but obvious that such idolworshipping practices have been carried over manifold in various forms and shapes, names and terms constantly being changed and re-defined to suit our own lifestyles. Human affairs remaining much the same and the dogmatic pagan idolworshipping schemes incorporated and unconquerably in denial as witnessed all over the world, we move ahead towards a more technological comforts of time.

Peace be upon you Pink,
But does following the Quran alone mean that all traditions are invalid? That all have to be dismissed/rejected?
What traditions are you referring to specifically?

Peace be upon you Danish,
The message has always been the same, and so has the LITERALIZED corruption of the truth. Thats why we read that regading "Jesus", a similitude was given to them (a metaphor) but they took it literal.
But getting back to the point, jumah means "assembly". As I stated before, it does not mean any friday spiritual meeting because the people were already at "jumah" when they are being called , which nullifes that idea.

Assalamu Alaikum Idol Free,
You did not answer my question the first time, you simply stated
"Hey Al -Quraishi! Lets go meditate!"
What I asked was
What is the nature of this call? Or should I say, what is it's content?
I was trying to be as specific as possible regarding the question and yet some people still wanted to drift off to the whole Friday issue.
What makes you think it is something more than that?
I didn't! You didn't fully answer the question! To answer it would have been to say something like - "The nature of this call is so and so, the content is not necessarily etc etc"
In my view it's pretty obvious Yawm Al-Jumuah doesn't correspond to Friday for a plethora of reasons, only some of which have been posted by a few people on this forum, yet when I have tried to be as specific as possible about the query regarding the adhan alone and stressing that the question does not involve the Jumuah/Friday issue people still can't seem to read the initial post and get carried away, Danish being the one who put the icing on the cake with a 13 lined post on the subject of Friday!
Please everybody, I thought we were going to start laying some ground rules regarding the nature of these discussions, someone else start a Jumuah/Friday discussion in a separate thread, but really, I think a lot of people have the same views on this anyway.
So does anybody out there have any meaningful comment about the call alone without diverging this discussion???
And Idol Free, don't worry, I think that last comment was very meaningful indeed handshake

As I mentioned earlier, names and terms are being re-defined for what YOU think suits your lifestyle TODAY with respect to what it actually was YESTERDAY. The verse clearly talks about Friday in rememberance of a deity named Allah and the significance of this day has been summarized.

AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! brickwall
But getting back to the point, jumah means "assembly".
IT WAS NEVER THE POINT!!!
<rips hair out of head>
<leaves forum in a maddened rage>

Peace be upon you,
Sorry. The nature of the call is very informal. I hope that is the proper format ;D
Danish, we can continue our discussion elsewhere.
-
Salam Idolfree, please don't think I was having a go at you specifically or anything I was just trying to keep the concentration back on track.
I would enjoy having a further discussion with the both of you regarding Friday, yawm, etc...

The nature of the call is very informal.
Kyle, just what do mean by that?
Danish, we can continue our discussion elsewhere.
This thread is about 'Friday' and I've given my response. Please do some thorough research before reinventing and redefining religions. If you take all the myths, mystics and mysteries out of religions, what do you have?

<eye starts twitching>
brickwall
And please do some basic reading to understand what this thread is actually about.
In my short time posting on Free Minds, never have I known such a large number of users who simply do not read posts and just jump to whatever conclusion that tickles their fancy.
