Meditation-is there something like it we must carry out?
-
Salaams All,
I know brother idol likes meditation as well - I suppose it?s a good way to increase our focus on something, but is it something compulsory for us all though?
NO WAY!
I would say although it?s got its advantages but in that sense so many things gives us some form of advantage but they aren?t made compulsory.
Are the meditators of the world the ruling class? Are people flocking to countries where there is more of this type of thing done? Are those nations out performing others? Is there less crime in those nations?
Or are they the beggars of this world? And is more thus more crime there e.t.c
I can't imagine why people can't see! Or is it just me?
God Bless All.

Peace simple,
I don't think meditation is compulsory. But I do think it's necessary to establish a link to the higher self. Of course, there are many forms of meditation. Listening to music (with full attention) is meditation. Playing a sport is meditation.
Are the meditators of the world the ruling class?
I don't see how that's indicative of it's effectiveness. But perhaps the ruling class (elite) does meditate. How can we know?
Are people flocking to countries where there is more of this type of thing done?
Generally speaking, people flock to easy gains and entertainment.
Are those nations out performing others?
It's hard to tell. First, we need a criteria of performance. Second, how do we gauge who meditates and who doesn't?
Is there less crime in those nations?
Possibly. Like I mentioned, meditation comes in many forms. There may be a correlation between the more peaceful countries and their various forms of meditation. But it remains conjectural at this point.
I can't imagine why people can't see! Or is it just me?
Perhaps you've narrowed your definition of meditation and limited the adherents to a few specific nations. This might explain what you see. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Peace simple and Tay,
Maybe we should think about it more as 'connection' as opposed to 'meditation'. We can do all sorts of things to be connected to The Source, and what is a great connection for me today, may not be so great of a connection for me tomorrow. Flexibility is the key. Once something is written or declared 'in stone', then movement stops, possibilities end, and stagnation begins to set in. The fact that nothing in particular is stated in the Qur'an, to me, is the result of God's all encompassing wisdom. It has only been mankind who has thought that what one person or one group of people does is the ultimately right thing for all to do, for now until the end of time "my way or the highway" kind of thinking. This is incredibly shortsighted and sorry to say, ignorant. All possibilities are open to mankind at all times. It is only our thinking that limits us.
-
salaam tay,
perhaps you may want to reflect again on your statement here.
Peace simple,
I don't think meditation is compulsory. But I do think it's necessary to establish a link to the higher self.....
Peace,
Taythere are still a lot of arabic words in al-Qur'an that needs further investigation. one of them is we thought, 'bayt'. lane has indicated the possibility of 'bayt' to mean meditation. please refer to his explanation under form (wazan) 2.
the word 'bayt' was first intriduced in the narrative of ibrahim. if say for the time being we use 'meditation' for 'bayt', what do we get? in the story, we are told that ibrahim spent the nights pondering about his 'rabb'. then he and ismael were asked by Allah to lay the foundations of performing meditations. and so on. and so forth.
our simple advice is if we may, is for us to be extra careful. there are too many things that have been veiled, and the greatest obstacle confronting us now is the 'arabic' language that has been made out to be.
please take time to ponder upon this thing called 'meditation'. as you have written "... to establish a link to the higher self ..." could that perhaps be what 'salat' is all about?

our apology, a little correction please (mmm this forum does not allow for editing, eh?)
the last line which reads;
"please take time to ponder upon this thing called 'meditation'. as you have written "... to establish a link to the higher self ..." could that perhaps be what 'salat' is all about?"should be read as;

Peace Ilisa,
Maybe we should think about it more as 'connection' as opposed to 'meditation'.
I understand, but in my understanding, I view one as the action (meditation) and one as the desired outcome (connection).
We can do all sorts of things to be connected to The Source, and what is a great connection for me today, may not be so great of a connection for me tomorrow. Flexibility is the key.
I agree. And like I expressed to 'simple', there are various forms of meditation. The bottom line in meditation is getting your mind to shut up. Everyone should find their own method.
The fact that nothing in particular is stated in the Qur'an, to me, is the result of God's all encompassing wisdom.
I'm not quite sure what you mean by "nothing in particular". Please explain.
It has only been mankind who has thought that what one person or one group of people does is the ultimately right thing for all to do, for now until the end of time "my way or the highway" kind of thinking. This is incredibly shortsighted and sorry to say, ignorant.
No need to be sorry. I agree.
It is only our thinking that limits us.
Exactly. Thinking, in itself, is limited to the past. We think based on what we've experienced. It's a constant reference check. Not-thinking opens up the doors to the divine.

Peace Joe,
there are still a lot of arabic words in al-Qur'an that needs further investigation. one of them is we thought, 'bayt'. lane has indicated the possibility of 'bayt' to mean meditation.
I agree with the first part, but was unaware of the second part. Thanks for bringing this into light.
our simple advice is if we may, is for us to be extra careful. there are too many things that have been veiled, and the greatest obstacle confronting us now is the 'arabic' language that has been made out to be.
I agree that care is good advice, and many things are veiled. The greatest obstacle, to me, has always been the self/ego. But perhaps that's sidetracking. I do agree, however, that decoding the arabic language is monumentally important in understanding the qur'an.
"please take time to ponder upon this thing called 'meditation'. as you have written "... to establish a link to the higher self ..." could that perhaps be what 'meditation' is all about?"
I'm pretty sure that's what I originally stated. So, are you agreeing or disagreeing?
our apology, a little correction please
No need. But what's up with the plural? Do you represent more than one person?
this forum does not allow for editing, eh?
Yes, it does. There's a "modify" link at the top of the window.

salaam tay
Peace Joe,
I'm pretty sure that's what I originally stated. So, are you agreeing or disagreeing?
;D
it should have been
"could that perhaps be what 'bayt' is all about?"
anyway, i do meditate though. came across 'the path' some 30 years ago, but only in the past 5 years or so, i do it 'religiously' immediately after waking up and before going to bed. it is an excellent way to appease the mind (amnan?). ;D
all this after discovering what 'bayt' is all about. just attempt a new shift of paradigm i.e. of having the possibility that 'bayt' could be 'meditation', and perhaps you'll get a whole new picture on the the path treaded by ibrahim (&ismael), moses, muhammad and the rest. perhaps you will discover why khadijah (muhammad's wife) was considered 'ahl bayt', when she was 'perhaps' a jew (is she not when her uncle waraqah, if we are not mistaken, is a jew?). this uncle of khadijah was the one who was the first to believe muhammad, and assured him that he has received the revelation (iqra' the first surah) from Allah via 'jibril' while in the cave of hira'. anyway, what was muhammad doing in hira' - that small cave?
however, it is just a subject that you may want to ponder upon.
But what's up with the plural? Do you represent more than one person?
this is too often asked, but we don't mind asking again (if we are allowed to answer by asking). ;D
actually, most (if not all) of us, have been referring to 'us' or 'we' when talking to, or imploring Allah. may we ask, "Why did you guys do it?"
ok. ok. ok. when you read al-Fatiha just now, were you not referring to yourself (each one of you) as we, when you say, "Only You we serve, with You we cooperate," or you did not mean it?

joe -
Peace Joe,
Thanks for the dialogue. I will certainly look further into the meanings and context of "bayt". You asked an important question
what was muhammad doing in hira' - that small cave?
My understanding is that Muhammad, as all prophets who may or may not have existed, found 'Jibreel' through meditation and attunement with the higher frequencies. I also understand that we are just as privy to this frequency call "Jibreel". As I'm looking further into "bayt", I recommend you look into "Jibreel" and see how they complement each other.
Peace,
Tay -
Peace Joe,
Hmmm.... This is the first time I've read of this concept for 'bayt'---now THAT's interesting!
Can you go a bit more in depth about this? Or is there already another thread?
And I second Tay's suggestion about 'bayt' and 'jibreel'.....God bless!

peace tay, ilisa, n all
if we may suggest, please read this again
all this after discovering what 'bayt' is all about. just attempt a new shift of paradigm i.e. of having the possibility that 'bayt' could be 'meditation', and perhaps you'll get a whole new picture on the the path treaded by ibrahim (&ismael), moses, muhammad and the rest. perhaps you will discover why khadijah (muhammad's wife) was considered 'ahl bayt', when she was 'perhaps' a jew (is she not when her uncle waraqah, if we are not mistaken, is a jew?). this uncle of khadijah was the one who was the first to believe muhammad, and assured him that he has received the revelation (iqra' the first surah) from Allah via 'jibril' while in the cave of hira'. anyway, what was muhammad doing in hira' - that small cave?
get the drift? i mean, on how 'jibril' came into picture? but that was the first experience for him. later on, it was automatic, for he has had comprehension (experience & understanding) of how it can happen. the verse to explain the role of 'jibril' is of course 297. have a second reading of that verse. our understanding of the verse reads;
002097 Say (Qul), ?Whoever is (man kana) an opponent of Jibril (AAaduwwan lijibreela), when indeed he (fa-innahu) reveals it (nazzalahu) into your heart (AAala qalbika) with Allah?s permission (bi-ithni Allahi) verifying (musaddiqan) what is (lima) in his hands (bayna yadayhi), and guidance (wahudan), and good news (wabushra) for the believers (lilmu/mineena).?
say that when you are reading al-Qur'an (in your hands on pc, meaning you are reading it), it should be 'jibril' who reveals the understanding or verifies your understanding that you get from reading the verses. it shouldn't be iblees, shaitan nor any other people (even those breathing on your neck!)
from your posts, tay, we gather that you are already close. but, we cannot deliberate further, as 'it has to be experienced' to know the truth. and the truth is only for you personally, unless you have gone through the procedures before arguing them out (hajj?). otherwise it is hearsay. insha-Allah. implore Allah for true guidance. He is too close. too close indeed. too near; 'as close as without barrier, as far as without distance.' in the yuppy lingo if we may, "go check Him out!"
the first law of learning is to turn oneself into an idiot - a stupid idiot (baladan?). then automatically the person will have the notion that he has nothing in his mind, but to learn. whatever understanding one has, it can always be wrong, but can be right too. so this idiot will begin to open up his/her learning faculty - the best state is a toddler; no baggage, no inhibitions, no preconceived ideas, nothing. zip. the idiot will have no knowledge.
thus without knowledge, the idiot will turn to Allah for right guidance; that verses we read in al-Fatiha. read with understanding, then insha-Allah one will comprehend the wholeness of the learning experience. "... istaAAeenoo bialssabri waalssalati..." or 'cooperate closely and patiently.' insha-Allah. knowledge is His. time is His. we have nothing. so seek for His true guidance. implore Him.
the second rule of learning is knowledge belongs to Allah. and, time belongs to Allah. He has both knowledge and time, thus when He says, "Kun!" Fayaqun. 'kun' is about knowledge. 'fayakun' is about time. we have none of these. thus, we implore for understanding. we implore for comprehension - understanding and experience. insha-Allah. cooperate closely and patiently. insha-Allah.
the first mistake of learning is to kill Allah. yes. but, most are unaware. when one credit oneself with phrases like 'i' know or 'i' am right, then one has inadvertently rendered Allah out of his/her system. remember the second rule; only Allah has the knowledge. so, only Allah is right. He holds the truth. we are merely His vessels.
when one says 'i' know, then that one has rendered every right teacher to retirement. say, would you teach your kid who says, "i know!"? do you still try to teach that kid?
o my... this is beyond my initial intent of posting a short remark to you both. mmm... not a sermon i hope? ok... we'll just end it here.
(when you find our post unbelievable, just put it aside, or disregard it. just one of our ramblings.)anyway, take care. implore Allah for right guidance. have patience (this should be embedded in rule numero uno). be honest with Him (this too). insha-Allah. and, may Allah have mercy on us all.
peace.

Peace Joe,
Thank you. As you might have seen from my other posts, I'm a great proponent of the need to experience 'living' truth--truth that is alive and 'happening'. What you say makes good sense. I've made some notes and now I'll wait for jibril to open some more doors so that I can experience and understand more!!

praised be Allah, the Compassionate Mercy
hi ilisa,
we are happy for you. indeed. alhamdulillahi rabbil 'alameen.
not many people are willing to risk their belief, and here you are, putting it on the very front line. alhamdulillah.
'emaan' is about total trust in Allah. but we understood it not just at face value. it is essentially all about totally being sure (ainul yaqin) in Allah. so it is all about peace of mind, and peace of heart. as such, one is neither scared nor on two minds about trusting Allah, and all that He has said in al-Qur'an.
there is an al-Qur'an that we have in each one of us, similar to that which was revealed to muhammad. so, we let Allah teach us. in fact, we should welcome, and implore Allah to teach us the true al-Qur'an. how? that's where 'jibril' comes in. ah, you know better than that.
so, we should never stop learning. we are learning. we will still (insha-Allah) be learning. it is a continued process, this thing called learning, for we are living. dead people don't learn. living people never stop learning. and every new moment presents new opportunities for learning. perhaps it is like reformation - we keep checking our understandings, our values, our bearings, or our relationship (salat) with Allah.
allow us to quote 2437; "Men of distinctions, trade or sale does not divert their attention from remembering Allah, (and) persisting in the relationships, and (the) yielding of pure heart. They fear a moment when the hearts and the perceptions change."
on a personal note, we thank Allah for allowing us to understand so many things in this forum, and others too. we are still learning. we are learning from everyone, and everything. in fact, we are not ashamed to admit that i am personally learning from our posts. we are learning. we are learning.
we are happy for you, indeed. alhamdulillah. may Allah bless us with right guidance.
peace.

Peace be upon you,
The question is not realy about medi-tation, the question is really about TRANCE...the state of receptivity, and this is an area we can confirm through scientific study. There are different brain waves paterns that have been identified with states of receptivity.
God's message to us is and always has been about behavior shaping, purifying the subconcious of the conditionings we recieved from birth when we were created weak (very receptive...which is why we guard "salaat" so that the God's attributes and manifest through our beings.
The most ideal state of receptivity is the state BETWEEN awake and asleep..the MEDI-state. We go into ths state many times a day when we get caught up with a thought or daydream or become highly emotional, etc....and this is how we have gotten all of our conditionings. What we must do is ACTIVELY put ourselves in that TRANCE state ..which is called meditation...so that we can preprogram our minds from wicked to righteous. That is what "salaat" is, programming.....Woe to the one who "salaat" but is unaware of thier "salaat"....we are always falling into states of trance (high receptivity" ....that is what commercials aim to do, that is why someone will spend 20 million for 3 minutes advertising and bombard you with al kinds of images and sounds.
We are a balance nation, in the MEDI position. Have you not seen how the day merges into the night and the night into the day? Dawn and dusk are the times to impregnate the spirit(female)/subconcios with the will(male)/conciousness.

Peace all,
Has anyone heard about centerpointe www.centerpointe.com soundtracks that help, according to the author, everyone go into the state of meditation within 30 minutes, something that would take about 15 years to master?
The author, Bill Harris, claims that anyone can enter the meditative state of Zen Monks using these state of the art technology.
Please share if you know more about the holosync soundtracks.
God bless you all,
