    Salam Rumi.

Being a Qur'an believer does not affect me much, I am still practicing sunni, nothing wrong with that. But Qur'an has open my mind, I now have the most powerful words in my disposal especially free-minds literal translation. I'll use it whenever I have discussion online. They will just keep silence when we present them with Qur'anic verse, because they can feel the glory, but it hard for them to admit it because of their ego.

This is the current state of mind of the liberals Malay, Chinese, and Indian in Malaysia.
    http//malaysia-today.net/blog2006/index.php?itemid=3556

Unfortunately for majority of Malaysia Muslim especially self proclaim ahlul sunnah wal jamaah or salafi, they are still trapped in Hadith, Qur'an is stranger for them, and they quarrel among themselves (salafi, traditionalist, syiah) in small issue such as bidaah. Have a look at their forum www.al-ahkam.net, here I seldom use Qur'anic verse because it seem vaque for them. It is better if you act as a moderator between them so that they stop quarreling among themselves and see the bigger picture.

How you can convince them that hadith is not divine while they never understand Qur'an? Yes it is better if you keep your low profile, work the prosperity of our country, first by preaching unity among muslim, then toleration and understanding among various culture & religion.

    Thanks.

You should not say you do not believe in hadiths. Instead you should say you believe that hadiths exist inside Al Quran.

I agree. That is exactly what I am saying and have been saying. I don't ridicule the hadiths of Bukhari et al to those who believe these works. It is their choice, their right, there is no compulsion in religion afterall. I merely remind them of the origins of these texts, in which case I have not met anyone who claims the hadiths of Bukhari or Muslim to be divine, having the same stature as the Holy Quran in its divinity. The Quran thus is the best hadith, it's divine in its revelation to mankind through the message of our prophet and with this regard there is a degree of acceptance to all that I have spoken to. Further discussion erodes fairly quickly after this point has been established with Hadith-trusting Muslims arguing that many of gods instructions are impossible to fulfill without guidance from the hadith, scholars, religious teachers.

I tested the waters about Quranist beliefs with my mother. It was scary. I knew it would be hard, I guess it was expected but it is just amazing how much the hadith has influenced positions found within the Quran, even when verses are very much unambiguous. Well, I feel a little bummed out honestly. Quranists in the view of my mother aren't Muslims, because the hadith is vital as it is needed to understand the holy Quran. So much for me trying to be open about it, guess I have to keep my beliefs in secret. Nonetheless, I don't think I can turn back now, I guess this thread is really starting to be one that is documenting my shift in becoming a Quranist.

To my fellow Malaysians, how have you experiences been? I guess Malaysians have to keep a low profile about it huh?

I would say that being a Quran Aloner have changed my life a bit. Currently my bos knows what i believe in after he confronted me for not going to friday prayers. Before he knows, we kinda have other small talks apart from work items. But now it is strictly work only.

For my personal life, i would say it is affected me as well. I havent told my girlfriend on my believes. but i have tried to lead her to that like encourging her to read a translation. I even gave her a book on the Quran alone belives writen by Salim Shamid, also i bought her a word for word Quran so that she can verify every verse that i gave her. But i think it is a matter wheter she wants to read it or not.

          Salam Loli.

          www.jim.org.my

I am not an active member. But personally I think they are the best Islamic NGO in Malaysia. However they are quite exclusive and conservative. You know, their operation is like freemason, they follow the method of Ikhwanul Muslimin of Egypt.

          Salam,

I would say that they will treat you as their brothers until they know what your believes are. Trust me..sunnis are predictable.

I think because it is not compulsary to do so,(not stated in the Quran) And it will ocupy my time that i supposed to be at work, which etically not correct.

I stopped going for 'friday prayers' about 4 years ago, when I realized what a total waste of time it was. But that's just me. giveup

                  Salam Rumi!!

Gosh! I didn't know there are also a few Malaysians here in this forum! Wee, I'm so happy! I'm a Malaysian too.

Anyway, Malaysia claimed to be a multi-faith country, but it's all a fallacy. They don't mind Hinduism (Indians) and Buddhism (Chinese), among others, to be practiced in Malaysia. But if you are a Quranists / God Alone follower, be afraid. Be very very afraid! They see you as MORE Kaffir than the Hindus or Buddhists. They call us the 'Anti-hadis' movement. They really-really HATE us. Believe me.

Anyway, my advice for you is to go to http//e-bacaan.com/ and read all the articles there. They are in the Malay language. Averything about solat, and zakat .etc are there.

But there are a few differences between e-bacaan and free-minds when it comes to prayer. The founder (othman ali) believes the solat to be 3 times but the times are different a bit dawn, dusk, and night unlike free-minds' dawn, afternoon, and night. The site hasn't been updated in awhile though because the founder is currently very-very ill I was told. I never heard of him since.

Anyway, I hope, together we can learn and uncover the truth, as it is intended.

Free-minds.org does not have a fixed set of belief. Everyone has different opinions bro.

Yes, I am aware of that. I was referring to the article regarding Solat on the main page of free-minds.org.

P/S - I think I am putting too much information about my identity on this forum. I think it's best for me to mask it, fearing that the Malaysian government might find out and who knows, probably terminate my scholarship or something. I can't really trust the government.

giveup I really am confused. I don't know what to believe.
I am a Sunni Syafi'i Muslim from Malaysia, I guess I still am because I still practice the 5 pillars. I've always wondered about the quran only movement for a long time now. From a philosophical point of view, it makes sense. Man is fallible, he makes mistakes, he is corruptible. The only work we have that is divine in origin is the Holy Quran, the word of God, all other works are suspect simply because of their human origins.
This realization is purely from a philosophical, theological perspective of my own, without input from others. This until of course I realize there's a whole movement on this, stumbling on to your website.
I have many many questions, hopefully the brothers and sisters out there can help me out.
How does one pray? Where does one perform pilgrimage? What about Zakat?
The most important question is, from your point of view, is it wrong for me to still practice my rituals of prayer the way I have been brought up? The Shahada, the 5times daily prayer?
It's a big step to take to become a Quran Only. In Malaysia anything that deviates from the mainstream form of Islam, specifically the Sunni Syafi'i madhab is not taken lightly. This not just includes the Quran only practitioners but also Shi'ites and Sufi's. Freedom of religion exists in this country but not towards Muslims. So I tread carefully, I want to know as much as I can before I take this leap of faith, insyallah.

                        Salam.

                        Slowly brother, take it slowly.
                        Nothing happens over night.
It took everyone a while to get where they are now.

Take it slow and always rely on The Exalted GOD Most Merciful.

                        Peace.

I've never met a Slovenian Muslim, I've been to Slovenija many many times, I used to live in Zagreb and Sarajevo, I have quite a few Slovene friends but their all Catholic, it's interesting to know that a Quranist (I'm assuming you are) exist in Slovenija. Anyways, thanks for your message.
