    Peace be upon you,

    I missed this one

    (984) And do not ever program on anyone from them (rejectors)(that) died, and do not maintain on his grave/burial place, that they truly disbelieved by God and His messenger, and they died and (while) they are debauchers .

The above verse deals with ancestors. This is a topic that I dont have enough knowledge to speak about. But basically, there is nothing more that can be done with them, unlike believers whom you can continue to help after they die in the spirit(subconcious) realm.

      peace Kyle,

I'm not sure if you are addressing your post to me but I only requested clear evidence for meditation going on.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

          Salam to all.

          WHICH IS BETTER?

Imagine you are an Arab living in Basra in the year 100 AH. You are a new convert and has just received a copy of Al-Quran. You read the opening chapters Al-Fatiha and amazed by it, you then proceed to Surah 2.

In the name of God, the Almighty, the Merciful.
          A.L.M.
22 This is the Scripture in which there is no doubt, a guide for the righteous.
23 Those who believe in the unseen, and honor the solat, and from Our provisions to them they spend.
24 And those who believe in what was sent down to you, and what was sent down before you, and regarding the Hereafter they are certain.
25 These are the ones guided by their Lord, and these are the winners.

You are very excited to be a good practicing muslim, you then go to a nearby madrasah to ask a scholar there so that you can be a winners (25)

          CASE A.

          You What is the unseen?
Scholar To believe in the God, Angels,Judgement Days, Heaven, Hell etc.

          You What is Solat?
Scholar It is a ritual prayer.

          You How do we pray?
Scholar It involve a set of physical movement, standing, bowing and prostating. And to recite a certain verse and saying. I'll teach you the step. When them time for prayer come, you can stand behind me and follow.

You When is the time for prayer, and how many?
Scholar 5 times a day. Fajr, Zohor, Asr, Maghrib and Isha. But before pray you must take an ablution.

This conversation goes on, and the scholar teach you how to pray, what to recite, how many rakaah and so on. Then he told you about the five pillars and how to do it.

Then You Ask If I fulfill all this task, am I good muslim and will go to heaven?
          Scholar Yes.

          CASE B

          You What is Solat?
Scholar It is the Commandments. You must uphold the commandments.

You I've heard that the Children of Israel had received God commanmends.
Scholar Yes, God took the covenant of the Children of Israel (283) "You shall not serve except God, and regard your parents, and regard the relatives, and orphans, and needy, and say kind things to the people, and honor the solat, and contribute towards betterment.

You What about prophet Muhammad? What is the Covenant that God took from his followers?
Scholar The believers make allegiance to the prophet that they will not set up anything beside God, nor steal, nor commit adultery, nor kill their children, nor fabricate any falsehood, nor disobey the prophet in any matter which is righteous. (6012)

You So I must uphold all this commandments and I will be a good muslim? Is there anymore?
Scholar Patience young man, take time to read the Qur'an. That covenant is parts of the God's commandmends, and you must honor it. As long as we believe in God and the Last Day and does good work; we will have our reward with our Lord, with no fear over us, nor will we grieve. (262)

You Thank You, this is difficult, but I must honor the commandments and contributes toward betterment so that I will be the winner.

I hope you can understand my story, but I still practice regular prayers 5 times a day because I can't find enough proof from Quran to abandon it. In fact by praying 5 times a day, I can fulfill many of God's commandment such as the verse about bowing and prostrating, tasbih in the morning and evening, and night, constant rememberance of God, to pray and ask forgiveness, reciting Qur'an and many more. Meanwhile, by going to the mosque, I can fulfill much more commandmends such as to contribute in community, know and help each other, praying together and much more.

I am a qur'anist but I will not abandon the sunnah of the prophet or culture that not contradict directly with the Qur'an.

          Thank You.

            i like both ways.
although i'm curious about who came up with what to say during prayers. i didn't find in the qur'an what to say during prayers.

Maybe this lecture will answer your curiosity
              http//video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5960619842161782578&q=hadith+criticism

Recently I've done a list of the root sola and try to find it real meaning.

Ritual Prayer fit quite well, but this will require sunnah as complementrary to Qur'an.
Commitment/Commandmend also suit in most cases.

Personally to be safe, I take both. I am not againts traditional teaching as long as it does not contradict directly with the Qur'an. How come you preach Sunni and Shiah to return to Qur'an if you did not do ritual prayers? They will accuse you of apostacy and infidel. That is not a good things for the unity of Muslim Brotherhood.

              Thanks.

Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu brother Roshan

The Holy Quran shows how the Holy Prophet (salallahu alaihi wa salaam) and his illustrious Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) prayed

Muhammad is the apostle of Allah and those who are with him are strong against Unbelievers, (but) compassionate amongst each other. Thou wilt see them bow and prostrate themselves (in prayer), seeking Grace from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure. On their faces are their marks, (being) the traces of their prostration. (4829)

                Peace Yusha

Assuming 'salat' to be 'prayer', where is salat mentioned in your quote?

In this way we can see that sajda is an integral part of the salaat, and in the old days when the Holy Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa salaam) and his companions used to pray on the ground, the traces of dust and mud could be seen on their faces. The way the Muslims, whether Sunni or Shia, pray today is not based on pagan Arab rituals, it is based on the Holy Quran and the Sunnat. Jazak Allah khair.

I would argue that this is merely proof of the shallow way in which the Sunni/Shias use the Quran superficially to follow what their 'hadith' say.

                Roshan

Its addressed to whomever reads it, but I was primarily responding to your question by showing how salaat corresponds to ACTIVELY programming the subconcious......and once that is understood we can move on to how meditation, getting to the MEDI state, that state between awake and sleep symbolized by the merging of the day and night at dawn and dusk...., is the most effective means of programming the subconcious. That is for those who are interested and agree with my understanding. I am just adding my understanding for we must all listen to all understandings and follow the best.

                        As Salaamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullah.

In reality since the advent of the Quran alone movement, and it seering popularity in modern times, there's been many debates on this subject. I particularly choose to examine all the verses in referemce to either salaat or glorifying ALLAH ta'Ala at specific times and see how it sqaures with traditional understandings/new conceptualizations.
As to what I've been able to uncover, ma nihmatullah (with the grace of ALLAH), Salaat is structured in this fashion

                        As Salaatul Fajr
                        (before the sun has risen)
Y 'Ayyuh Al-Ladhna 'man Liyasta'dhinkumu Al-Ladhna Malakat 'Aymnukum Wa Al-Ladhna Lam Yablugh Al-uluma Minkum Thaltha Marrtin Min Qabli alati Al-Fajri Wa na Taana Thiy Bakum Mina A?-?ahrati Wa Min Badi alati Al-Ish'i Thalthu Awrtin Lakum Laysa Alaykum Wa L Alayhim Junun Badahunna awwfna Alaykum Baukum Al? Bain Kadhlika Yubayyinu Al-Lahu Lakumu Al-'y Ti Wa Allhu Almun akmun

O believers! Let your servants and those children who have not yet attained puberty ask your permission before coming in to see you on three occasions before Fajr Salah (dawn prayer), at noon when you put off your clothes, and after the Isha Salah (night prayer). These are your three times of privacy. At other times, there is no blame on you if you, or they, go around visiting one another. Thus Allah makes His revelations clear to you, for Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.

Wa Abir Liukmi Rabbika Fa'innaka Bi'a`yunin Wa Sabbi Biamdi Rabbika na Taqmu
Therefore, wait for the Judgment of your Rabb with patience, We are surely watching over you. Glorify your Rabb with His praises when you wake up,

Wa Mina Al-Layli Fasabbihu Wa 'Idbra An-Nujmi
and glorify Him in a part of the night, and also as the stars fade away.

                        As Salaatul Ishraaq
                        (after the sun has risen)
Wa 'Aqimi A-alata arafayi An-Nahri Wa Zulafan Mina Al-Layli 'Inna Al-asanti Yudh/hibna As-Sayyi'ti Establish Salah ( prayers) at the two ends of the day and in the early part of the night. Indeed virtues remove evils. This is a reminder for the mindful.

Therefore be patient with what they say. Glorify your Rabb with His praise before sunrise and before sunset, glorify Him during the hours of the night as well as at the ends of the day, so that you may find satisfaction.

                        As Salaatul Dhuhr
(When the sun begins to decline in the sky until late afternoon)

                        'Aqimi A-alata Lidulki Ash-Shamsi 'Il? Ghasaqi Al-Layli Wa Qur'na Al-Fajri 'Inna Qur'na Al-Fajri Kna Mash/hdan
Establish Salah from the decline of the sun till the darkness of the night (Zuhr, Asr, and Maghrib) and read at Fajr (dawn); for the reading (the Qur'an)at Fajr is witnessed (by the angels).

                        Wa Lahu Al-amdu F As-Samwti Wa Al-'Ari Wa `Ashyan Wa na Tu?hirna
all praise is due to Him in the heavens and the earth - so glorify Him in the late afternoon and when the day begins to decline.

                        As Salaatul Asr
(in the late afternoon before sunset)
                        Wa Lahu Al-amdu F As-Samwti Wa Al-'Ari Wa `Ashyan Wa na Tu?hirna
all praise is due to Him in the heavens and the earth - so glorify Him in the late afternoon and when the day begins to decline.

                        As Salaatul Maghrib

Fasubna Al-Lahi na Tumsna Wa na Tubina
Therefore, glorify Allah in the evening and in the morning

                        As Salaatul Tahajjud

During a part of the night, pray Tahajjud, an additional prayer for you, very soon your Rabb may exalt you to a station of great glory.

Wa Al-Ladhna Yabtna Lirabbihim Sujjadan Wa Qiyman
                        who pass the night prostrating before their Rabb and standing in prayers;

'Amman Huwa Qnitun 'n'a Al-Layli Sjidan Wa Q'iman Yadharu Al-'khirata Wa Yarj Ramata Rabbihi Qul Hal Yastaw Al-Ladhna Yalamna Wa Al-Ladhna L Yalamna 'Innam Yatadhakkaru 'l Al-'Albbi
Can he who is obedient, pass the hours of night prostrating in worship or standing in adoration, fearing the hereafter and hoping to earn the Mercy of his Rabb, be compared to the man who does not? Are the knowledgeable and the ignorant equal? In fact, none will take heed except the people of understanding.

                        Qumi Al-Layla 'Ill Qallan
Stand in prayers at night, but not the whole night,

                        Nifahu 'Aw Anqu Minhu Qallan
half of it or a little less,

'Inna Nshi'ata Al-Layli Hiya 'Ashaddu Wa'an Wa 'Aqwamu Qlan
                        Surely the getting up at night for prayer is most effective for controlling the self and most suitable for reciting the Qur?an as well;

Now of course everybody will use their own personal interpretation to square this up. I choose not to debate nor argue this point, simply because I accept the Quran as is. Some Muslims who choose to uphold Quran alone will be liberal in their practice, some moderate, some conservative, and some extremist. I choose the middle path, that which according to the plainest interpretation of the words while avoding matters for which I have no knowledge.

                        Wa L Taqfu M Laysa Laka Bihi Ilmun 'Inna As-Sama Wa Al-Baara Wa Al-Fu'uda Kullu 'l'ika Kna `Anhu Mas'lan
And follow not that of which thou hast no knowledge. Surely the hearing and sight and the heart, all of these will be asked about it. 1736

                        I hope this is helpful.

                          Peace all,

i have couple of requests from all

please let two discussions get separated from each other

1- What is the function of salaat? what happens to us when we do it? what is the outcome? what is viewed?...........
2- How is it done? How many times? is it physical or else? ..........................

so the first one is a WHY question and the second one is a HOW question.

                          peace

does anyone here believe that salat is a 'meeting'?

My Dear Angel, How are you?

An intresting question indeed hmm, and i can feel/appreciate the inquisitiveness deep down in you. In my imaginations, i have brain stormed this question many a times. Here are my thoughts regarding the issue. They might sound funny, but i, somehow have an empirical Gut feeling ;D about this conjecture.

! Salat (ritual) is a "Dummy Run" for training/developing/evaluating an individual's ability for establishing "The connection" with HIM to receive instructions from HIM, and then run HIS system accordingly. This duty will be performed by some of us as controllers angel, provided, one proves himself worthy of this task, which is, "serving him in the next cycle". Degree of our commitment to this connection method enables HIM in evaluating our abilities for performing the divinely assigned tasks, and also serves as a training camp for this important future assignment. jedi

                              Now The "How" question!

My idea, after a thorough study of salat in quran, and after going through endless debates regarding the issue is "what ever an individual thinks about the number and its method at a given time , that becomes his "Bench Mark" to be tested against". It is kind of a self setting parameter, and then developing, or trying ones best to achieve it.

If an individual perceives salat as 5 times and 4 rakahs by following a certain methodology, then that becomes his target against which his ability /devotion will be judged . I think, "timings and consistency" in carrying out divinely assigned task is more important than "what one says and how he says" provided one keeps in mind that this duty is for him and for him "only". The priority one accords to "his sustainer's assignment" over his own affairs will determine his position on the "Grid", and would play a significant role in determining his ranks in Devinne hierarchy as a controller in next life.

                              God Bless All Of Us

                              siki
