Have you ever seen a country with two presidents? Two kings? Yes there has been times at which two different people claimed to be the king of one state... but then they had to fight with each other until one proves stronger. Have you ever seen a company with two CEO's? Are there two popes? Even in the animal kingdom, do we see two lions ruling the same territory?

Then what makes you think that there could exist more than two gods who live peacefully with each other?

        Salam (Greeting)

Never did Allah take to Himself a son, and never was there with him any (other) god-- in that case would each god have certainly taken away what he created, and some of them would certainly have overpowered others; glory be to Allah above what they describe!

Multiple Gods = Conflicting Gods = Chaos.

The existence of many gods is a lie so, the point is, if one if worshipping many gods they are worshipping something that is not real, the one thing that is real however is God almighty.

Can you give me any details of why its a lie al-quaraishi?
And what is the proof that there is not a multitiude of gods?

Allah says in the Holy Quran For ye do worship idols besides Allah, and ye invent falsehood. The things that ye worship besides Allah have no power to give you sustenance then seek ye sustenance from Allah, serve Him, and be grateful to Him to Him will be your return (2925)

This is the essential rationale for disavowing all forms of shirk (idolatry). When man relies on something which can neither benefit nor harm him, he gains nothing, but in fact is living in a grand delusion. This is why one of the attributes of Allah is Al-Haq (The Truth), because He is the Reality and is more Real than anything else. He alone has power over all things, to both benefit and harm you. Idolatry is giving these exclusive qualities which belong to Allah to the creation of Allah. Idolatry is in fact the root of all evil/sin, the basis for immorality and wickedness.

This verse is what I tried to explain, here it is clear that polytheism means believing in more than one God and not the act of seeking intercession. Its not the act that is shirk but the belief. The person who believes in musltiple gods seeks intercession in a different way and for different reasons than the tawassul that some muslims do. The belief that these gods created different things or that God created then relied on partners to run things, another words there is more than one creator or more than one sustainer, so here the Quran says then why this harmony if there are multiple of gods in action. Therfore why would not these gods each take his creation(oceans, wind, rain, moon, sun, earth etc) and take off. Also if there were other sustainers then there can be a conflict between the wind and rain and the sun and the moon and how can they get along so well to keep the universe in harmony.

                        Peace,

If theres only one God then there is only one people thus there is never a reason to fight amongst each other as we were all created equally by the SAME God.

This is the real message behinde oneness of God. Otherwise it doesn't make no difference to God whether we believe in 10 or 100 gods.

                            Salam,

This is exactly what i was thinking, too. But, multiple gods that are not conflicting each other sounds..absurd.. i don''t quite understand why yet.. But, at the moment, I have no doubt at all there is one almighty God.. The quran clarified that.. And i believe.

thanks people for providing the verses!

God isn't a power hungry human. It's not an animal which would fight with another for dominance.

There's one "god" because that's the way it is. Everything is ONE. E=mc^2.
there's a certain reality which is being described as god. It's not god being forced into our reality. Most people look at as the latter. They have a predetermined concept of god which they then force into our world.
The argument that more than one god would fight with each other doesn't work.

It doesn't work because if we assume the traditional concept of God is true, then we know nothing about god. Nothing at all.
If there's nothing we know about god, then we can't make assumptions about his world.
Maybe we're being lied to in the quran? maybe there are gods but they are peaceful? maybe each god has been given his own universe?
It's just a baseless conjecture and doesn't explain anything.

If we are willing to revise our concept of god, maybe that'll clear things up.

                                  peace

The mormons believe that there is a god for every planet/universe. That and God is going to make everyone a god after the end.

C'mon Phoenix, If we are lied to in the Quran is any of the other Gods so impotent that they could not claim their right or make man know that they are around too.

The Almighty one God in the Quraan claims creation and dominion of all universe why have we not seen any objection from others if they exist.

Enquirers question was very good. The answer is the Quraan and what is left of the Torah and the Injil. If it was not for the messages we may not know for sure .

maybe the other gods are impotent? who knows? I mean, I can give you pages worth of stories about why we haven't had an objection, but in the end, if we know nothing, we know nothing. You are assuming.
