Our Own Country: please vote thanks

Salam,
Hey, I was thinking, if we can buy a land or an island and govern it ourselves with Quranic laws, would you come and help built the country? At least we could show the World, especially to the Muslim world how we live under the divine Quranic law. -

Sounds like a cool place to live.At least we could show the World, especially to the Muslim world how we live under the divine Quranic law.
Are you sure we won't be dubbed 'a haven for terrorists', or something like that? -

I might, I always wanted to try politics in a country that wasn't a corrupt oil company puppet regime. But it would probably cost me a good amount of money to travel there.

First we?d have to agree how to pray and which direction if any to turn to, where to go for hajj and what to do once we get there, the style of women?s clothing, to allow beer, if their really were miracles, average lifespan during Noah?s time; if he was with THEM 950 years they also lived that long and countless other stuff like whether to teach evolution or not.
Guess we?d need the messenger in Quran living amongst us for it to work?

Well, that's the whole point of it, to gather there and set up a committee like Free-minds, only we actually have a building full of GOD-Aloners, and get right to work - Research. It's much easier to work face to face then through the internet here. We can disscuss and argue all day. Ah, that might be interesting!

i voted NO because i couldn't take the constant bickering that would inevitably take place over what a word means in the quran. it would most likely be very disorganized form of government with alot of ego trips going on. in sum, very ungodly environment. sorry for being so pessimistic but i think the "quran alone" movement has alot of growing up to do. i would much rather live in a "community of light" set up by the Mission of Maitreya. Now there is a place I would love to be a part of.

peace all,

I wouldn't like to live amongst anyone who thought like the above.
In theory, the idea sounds good but would eventually lead to a diluted form with successive generations. I voted "maybe".
As an aside, setting up communities/systems is discussed quite heavily in 'al quran'.

peace all,

That is the reason why I thing that the state and religion should be kept apart.
I voted no. No to ghetto mentality. Yes to "mixity".
peace lkGhetto mentality.. rotfl
I voted yes. I would rather be with people I share the basics with than be with people who consider me "the other".
I have no problem with people who differ as long as it doesn't become an ego problem.
I have voted no.

Peace,
Well, I voted yes because I want to give it a chance and I dont mind if it fails.

I don't get it, will this country refuse other (religions) people to live there? confused
No no, not at all, the country will allow people from any religion and race to be its citizens. But everyone is subjected to the same law - the Quranic law. I am asking this question because no country has based their laws entirely on the Quran yet. Especially in Malaysia where we have Civil Law and Shariah Law used seperately on defferent matters. Just a thought really. Wanted your opinion if such a country exists.
And thanks for voting YES RasulHamsa, that's the spirit!

Peace Ahmad,
That's kinda what I thought, but then after seeing some of the replies I wondered if I missed something. It's like no, I don't want to be with those who follow quran alone, I prefer diversity. Must it be one or the other?
Thanks for the clarification though. peace

There was at one time a government almost based upon Qur?anic principles?
The Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom drafted by Thomas Jefferson is the basis for the Religion Clauses in the US Constitution?s Bill of Rights and it?s no coincidence that Jefferson learned Arabic so he can read Qur?an and that the founding fathers that were in actuality mostly Deists (Muslims in a way) built the world?s strongest democracy.

"Well aware that Almighty God hath created the mind free; that all attempts to influence it by temporal punishments or burdens, or by civil incapacitations, tend only to beget habits of hypocrisy and meanness, and are a departure from the plan of the Holy Author of our religion, who being Lord both of body and mind, yet chose not to propagate it by coercions on either, as was in his Almighty power to do; that the impious presumption of legislators and rulers, civil as well as ecclesiastical, who, being themselves but fallible and uninspired men, have assumed dominion over the faith of others, setting up their own opinions and modes of thinking as the only true and infallible, and as such endeavoring to impose them on others, hath established and maintained false religions over the greatest part of the world, and through all time; ?
Be it therefore enacted by the General Assembly, That no man shall be compelled to frequent or support any religious worship, place, or ministry whatsoever, nor shall be enforced, restrained, molested, or burdened in his body or goods, nor shall otherwise suffer on account of his religious opinions or belief; but that all men shall be free to profess, and by argument to maintain, their opinions in matters of religion, and that the same shall in nowise diminish, enlarge, or affect their civil capacities?"
