You say, by acting well in this world and nothing more. "Say" is unsubstantiated, and in Quran, "say" on the day of judgement is equated with hypocrites. Why not recite

    084.007
YUSUFALI Then he who is given his Record in his right hand,
PICKTHAL Then whoso is given his account in his right hand
SHAKIR Then as to him who is given his book in his right hand,

    084.008
YUSUFALI Soon will his account be taken by an easy reckoning,
PICKTHAL He truly will receive an easy reckoning
SHAKIR He shall be reckoned with by an easy reckoning,

    084.009
YUSUFALI And he will turn to his people, rejoicing!
PICKTHAL And will return unto his folk in joy.
SHAKIR And he shall go back to his people joyful.

    069.019
YUSUFALI Then he that will be given his Record in his right hand will say "Ah here! Read ye my Record!
PICKTHAL Then, as for him who is given his record in his right hand, he will say Take, read my book!
SHAKIR Then as for him who is given his book in his right hand, he will say Lo! read my book

    069.020
YUSUFALI "I did really understand that my Account would (One Day) reach me!"
PICKTHAL Surely I knew that I should have to meet my reckoning.
SHAKIR Surely I knew that I shall meet my account.

    069.021
YUSUFALI And he will be in a life of Bliss,
PICKTHAL Then he will be in blissful state
SHAKIR So he shall be in a life of pleasure,

About what to say on the last day

Every second we live, every thought we think, every act we execute, right now, all the time... we are carving our record in stone. We will be judged by this record. We are in fact creating our judgement right now as we go through life, minute by minute. Its all about how we think about it. It is not like some Judge will hear us at the J-day and ponder over our life, looking through the past and reacha conclusion, no... when we reach the J-day, its all done, because we have already created our own sentece, by living. It is happening NOW, not at a separate point in the future. We have to steer our own ship NOW and continuously, because when we reach the other shore, it will be too late.

      About guidance

I believe we should not over-focus and over-depend on scriptures. Scriptures are not the only way God guides! Why not go with your instincts. Try to FEEL what is good. Do those things that make people happy(genuinely). Help people, improve their situations, give comfort. Give love, show gratitude. Do constructive and positive things. God is always there for those who who can FEEL. I have experienced that gratitude for all you have is an enormously powerful key to positivity/betterment/abundance/love and God. Don't beg God for things like a poverty-focussed beggar, instead THANK "him" for all things you can think of and you will have more. But you have to thank with feeling, not with just grammar.

The Religions... dogmatic, superficial, pressurising, threatening... are very far from the soft yet powerful link that you can establish with your creator. The Religions and their followers speak the most elevated and spiritual words, but there doesn't seem to be much substance and show for it. It is often just talk, no real spirit. Look inside you. Thank God for what you have got so far and pray for more guidance, and be ever grateful. Wish and yern for wisdom and the straight path. Wish for opportunities of exercising goodness. You can't be told what to do. You have to learn it yourself. The journey is yours and yours alone, and alone you will be held accountable.

We are all here to learn. We are not supposed to jump on a some huge religious train out of fear and then just sit and wait, blind, deaf and dumb, until we reach the end station. We have to go through life, to learn, with the right intentions. No-one is perfect, and we don't have to be. But we have to have the right intentions! With the right intentions we can move in the right direction and develop, and it is very important that we never become complacent, thinking we have THE answer, THE way, THE religion.. no! We are not perfect, so there is always room for improvement. The greatest danger lies in ceasing to improve, develope, explore, think, try, investigate. I guess this is what they call jihad, the struggle, the struggle to become better and better. If you stop, you are doomed. Life doesn't allow for a stop. The problem with so many ideologies, religions and schools of thought is that the followers think they have THE right solution, and they are ready to blindly fight and die for it... but they will never dare to think they might have missed something. Stop and you will die.

God is not in a book, not in a congregation hall, not in others' approval, not is symbols, colors or names. You will find God if you look inside first.

      peace!

of course it's a blessing to have guidance from God in the form of scriptures. but they are useless if you don't have the right intentions. If you have the right intentions, then scriptures can help you alot to develope and learn.

You're not supposed to say anything. Your thoughts, actions, and most importantly, your intentions will speak for you.

ok, good answer, my actions and intentions, ok, lets see how that would go
lets say i follow bosnian translation of the quran, says to cut off hands of thieves, to beat my wife, to follow the messenger (which i'll understand as following what he did and said in hadith, which is pretty bad things sometimes),
and i come on judgement day with a record in cutting hands of people and beating my wife and so on... which is wrong apparently...

and by then it's too late, so what should i say 'i'm sorry God, i thought You said i have to do that, this guy translated it like that, i thought he knew arabic, how was i supposed to know'

so if that guy translated it wrong, how do i know who translated it right?
they all say they understand arabic

            Peace nerspi,

If you were the person to cut off the hands of thieves and beat your wife, do you think you could remain "peaceful" and in harmony with God?

I dont mean to intrude but Id thought Id ask. If that was the case, then everyone wouldnt be able to get to heaven because we all follow a different path in different ways. For example, he could just say "God commanded me to do it, so I do it", "You shouldn't disobey God, God knows what you do not know", etc. Again, we all have our faults, so to say if you remain "peaceful" with God, you would basically need to live in seclusion to accomplish that.

              Peace

Nerpsi, according to Muhammad, you will taste the punishment regardless. The entire world is doomed. Can't get any scarier than this, LOL. Just live in fear and everything shall be alright but make sure you do a lot of hail.

well, I think that if you HONESTLY try to do what will benefit and be good for people and humanity, AND that you also HONESTLY ask God for an ever better understanding of things, then you are pretty safe. It is important that you WISH for, PRAY for, and WANT to have the knowledge to do what is right, proper, just, fair, constructive and good as far as God is concerned... REGARDLESS of what s.c. scholars claim.

I might be wrong, but I find it hard to believe that anyone who has some softness and fear of God in his/her heart would cut off hands of thieves, ruining their lives, or beat their wives. Such things simply won't bring anything positive. It won't make anything better. I think that if you are sensible enough, you wont be convinced into doing cruel things, despit what hateful and miserable scholars are saying that God has ordered. Don't be a slave! Use you own mind! There is no need to put blind faith into others! Listen to your heart.

A sunni friend once said "No, i won't read that, because it will make me doubt about my beliefs in Allah."

Hey, isn't doubt a first step to get to the truth? I know that when i'm doubting, i will immediatly be curious as about what is wrong whith what i just saw.

                        yosemite,

yes, this is a classical case of FEAR. People desperately hold on to their beliefs in a cramp becasue they are in a state of fear. This fear is however unfounded. Opening your mind and letting new exposure come in will only help you in identifying the truth. Remaining blind won't do any good. Stagnation is spiritual death. God writes that the blind is indeed not like the seeing. If people just relax and let go of the fear they have, God will shower them with progress. This fear by the way is not from God, it is usually programmed through the culture and community since childhood.

I'll have to wee bit disagree with you here. When one carefully studies and contemplates on the "god" of religion and after reading the Quran several times over again, it portrays two extreme scenarios in opposition while accentuating and articulating only on one. From my personal perspectives, the god or gods of religions has always been a physical one, from polytheistic to monotheistic, the foundation being the same. For me then, this image is only a figment of imagination and this acuteness has reverborated and absorbed all kinds of stories to bring about extraterrestial phenomenon of FEAR, where denial and deception has taken its toll. Just my 2 cents.

                              Peace amuslim,

My understanding is not about what people say, but about the result of one's actions and intentions. We are asked not to follow that which we cannot verify. Therefore, that which we can verify must be analyzed in it's effect upon us. Every action and intention produces a mental and/or physical result within us.

Now I wonder if there's a sane man on this planet who attains peace while beating his wife. Is that not the true litmus test?

                              Peace,
                              Tay
