    Yes.

    peace

When I said times I meant the month (as opposed to daily timings of fasting), and I assume you mean the same. How does this square with

2185, "Ramadan is the month during which the Quran was sent down, providing guidance for the people, clear teachings

    Surely not?

      Yes, that's what I meant, too. )

It 'squares' just fine. I don't see a contradiction, unless I'm not clear on your question. Just like there's time difference of upto 24 hours in some parts of the world. Do you see a problem there? I realize what you're saying though, that one is a matter of hours, while the other is a matter of months. But the same logic should apply, don't you think? On the other hand, if you look at nature and seasons around the world, everything's almost the opposite between the northern and southern hemispheres. That would also apply to hunting seasons, etc. As being part of the 'restricted months'.

      Peace

I think Roshan means that the month of fating is when the quraan was sent down. In the case we have two seperate months according to each hemisphere, which one is when the quraan was sent down?

Yes, this is exactly what I mean. Perhaps 'ramadan' (hot/heat etc) refers only to the location where the Quran was revealed (i.e. northern hemisphere), and hence one month for the world.

As in the whole world fast at one time (e.g. March on the western calender)

How do you figure that? Are you saying when quran was revealed the whole world was fasting? I don't think I'm understanding you clearly.

                Peace

I don't fast from food and drink due to a medical condition (Crohn's). But I abstain from the rest of the prohibited during the daylight. To make up for the food aspect- I donate money to some local food banks.

My husband isn't Muslim and doesn't fast- since I was diagnosed with Crohn's and advised against fasting he sometimes forgets that I am observing Ramadhan- the abstaining from food is a really large mark of Ramadhan! It can be comical when he forgets!
