Impreseed by the present day European propoganda of gender Equality, some self proclaimed scholars from Muslims, Hindus and other religons are also becoming advocates for it. But the thruth is, NONE of the existing Major religons talks about MAN and WOMEN being Equal or having Equal rights including Islam because that is natrual.

I can write on it many pages as it was once my favourite subject and I was also one of the enthausist advocate of Equal Women rights.

However for Samia and horuf here is to start with
    For MEn
Tell the believing men that they shall subdue their eyes, and to maintain their chastity. This is purer for them. GOD is fully Cognizant of everything they do.

    For Women
And tell the believing women to subdue their eyes, and maintain their chastity. They shall not reveal any parts of their bodies, except that which is necessary. They shall cover their chests, and shall not relax this code in the presence of other than their husbands, their fathers, the fathers of their husbands, their sons, the sons of their husbands, their brothers, the sons of their brothers, the sons of their sisters, other women, the male servants or employees whose sexual drive has been nullified, or the children who have not reached puberty. They shall not strike their feet when they walk in order to shake and reveal certain details of their bodies. All of you shall repent to GOD, O you believers, that you may succeed

O you who believe, do not enter the prophet's homes unless you are given permission to eat, nor shall you force such an invitation in any manner. If you are invited, you may enter. When you finish eating, you shall leave; do not engage him in lengthy conversations. This used to hurt the prophet, and he was too shy to tell you. But GOD does not shy away from the truth. If you have to ask his wives for something, ask them from behind a barrier. This is purer for your hearts and their hearts. You are not to hurt the messenger of GOD. You shall not marry his wives after him, for this would be a gross offense in the sight of GOD.

Very important verse, we will discuss it, if some one raised a question about it.

O you who believe, when you transact a loan for any period, you shall write it down. An impartial scribe shall do the writing. No scribe shall refuse to perform this service, according to GOD's teachings. He shall write, while the debtor dictates the terms. He shall observe GOD his Lord and never cheat. If the debtor is mentally incapable, or helpless, or cannot dictate, his guardian shall dictate equitably. Two men shall serve as witnesses; if not two men, then a man and two women whose testimony is acceptable to all. Thus, if one woman becomes biased, the other will remind her. It is the obligation of the witnesses to testify when called upon to do so. Do not tire of writing the details, no matter how long, including the time of repayment. This is equitable in the sight of GOD, assures better witnessing, and eliminates any doubts you may have. Business transactions that you execute on the spot need not be recorded, but have them witnessed. No scribe or witness shall be harmed on account of his services. If you harm them, it would be wickedness on your part. You shall observe GOD, and GOD will teach you. GOD is Omniscient.

If you deem it best for the orphans, you may marry their mothers - you may marry two, three, or four. If you fear lest you become unfair, then you shall be content with only one, or with what you already have. Additionally, you are thus more likely to avoid financial hardship.

You commit no error by divorcing the women before touching them, or before setting the dowry for them. In this case, you shall compensate them - the rich as he can afford and the poor as he can afford - an equitable compensation. This is a duty upon the righteous.

If you divorce them before touching them, but after you had set the dowry for them, the compensation shall be half the dowry, unless they voluntarily forfeit their rights, or the party responsible for causing the divorce chooses to forfeit the dowry. To forfeit is closer to righteousness. You shall maintain the amicable relations among you. GOD is Seer of everything you do.

These are to start with, you are welcome for discussion.

I know there will be lot of twisting of translations, explanations and calling me backward or tradionalist, but I am ready as long as we learn some thing.

You do not make sense, Rajah. Where do these ayas talk about rights? What rights are being enunciated? Some things are mere statement of facts as they were. Stating that women have bossom, is not an enunciation of any right. How can you derive any particular right from the fact the women have bossoms, or where is it so stated? Even rules of procedure are not the enunciation of any right. The fact that you exert yourself so much to make anything into a right doesn't make anything into a right.

I for one haven't called you anything and I don't care to do so. But do you kindly allow me the right not to be impressed by what you say, and on the other hand to be indeed impressed by what you don't say, and also by what you fail to prove but keep repeating as if repetition stood in lieu of proof?

At any rate, please be sure that even if you want to have by miraculous divine command better rights than me I still like you.

      Salaam

Exactly huruf, calling for equality it does not mean that one does not acknowledge certain differences between women and men

What an irrelevant answer! You should have read the Ayats mentioned above before talking about Bossoms

I will suggest you read the verses I mentioned and then discuss it and just don't ride the horse of "EQUAL RIGHTS" blindly. Charles Darwin say's "It is the survival of the fittest".
The inferior position of woman in the Qur?an is further seen in regulations regarding some ordinary matters of life. Women are supposedly more prone to err in matters of witnessing. In matters of contracts, "two men should witness, but if not two men, then one man, and two women so that if one of the two women should err, the other will remind her." (Sura 2282)

Just to remind you a single AYAT I know for pointing out this I will be called "tradionalist" "Talibaan" or whatever but you can't change the reality, that is the way we are made, men are physically stronger then women thus have different rights then females, and that is natrual.
In Islamic system though the working or business of women is not prohibited but it is encouraged that she look after the internal affairs and men about external affairs and that has been the case from which the history has come into existence.
A women and men cannot have Equal rights and niether should they. Quran also speaks about different rights for both. In some cases they have equal rights but in other cases they don't and that is very natrual.

I would like to include some verses from
24-324. God prohibited both of them from eating the fruits of the forbidden tree. The serpent seduced Eve to eat from it and Eve, in turn, seduced Adam to eat with her. When God rebuked Adam for what he did, he put all the blame on Eve, &quotThe woman you put here with me --she gave me some fruit from the tree and I ate it."; Consequently, God said to Eve "I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband and he will rule over you." To Adam He said "Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree .... Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life..."

I find more bitter than death the woman who is a snare, whose heart is a trap and whose hands are chains. The man who pleases God will escape her, but the sinner she will ensnare....while I was still searching but not finding, I found one upright man among a thousand but not one upright woman among them all";(Ecclesiastes 726-2.
In another part of the Hebrew literature which is found in the Catholic Bible we read "No wickedness comes anywhere near the wickedness of a woman.....Sin began with a woman and thanks to her we all must die"; (Ecclesiasticus 2519,24).

The renowned reformer Martin Luther could not see any benefit from a woman but bringing into the world as many children as possible regardless of any side effects "If they become tired or even die, that does not matter. Let them die in childbirth, that's why they are there"

Thanks God Quran does not agree with this non sense, but then again the reality is reality, No two different creatures can have Equal rights, that is common sense.

Not to mention the rights or position of women in other major religons.

All of those concern "equitable rights" based on biological differences. Liberalism is slightly too extreme but hey, extremism (liberalism) competing with insane extremism (hadeethism)? I pick the quran.

                          Salaam Raj-ah

Verse 43 If it were offensive for orphans if an alien woman spend money on them, God would have sanctioned that this alien woman to marry one, two or three "fathers" of the orphans. It is not because men have ( right)). It is not a prize for the man who spends on orphans that he is granted this right. It's for the sake of orphans' pride and their mother's reputation, which would not be affected in the same way had the spender been a woman.

2431 Where is the right here, or the absence of it? Where have you heard women lib call for the right to walk bare breasted? If some men did not behave badly, Maybe this verse would not be there. Rape, sexual assault etc happen to women, and this is an advise for them to protect themselves. No rights, no discrimination. Just biological facts and factual misbehaviour.

Where is the right here other than the woman's for making her loose invaluable time by being divorced without consommating the marriage, and thus lost the chance to have a better hausband than this one? Keyword compensation. A woman has a biological clock for having children. This waste of time substracts from her chances. He, on the other hand, is not affected by this.

If some men did not behave badly, there wouldn't be any need for this verse!! I do not think women are addressed here, and are ordered to talk to the prophet's wives from behind a barrier.

I do not see any "rights" in these veses. Mere biological and thereoff behavioural differences. Why did you forget the verse about paying the mother for breast feeding? Or the waiting time for pregnant women?

Before starting a thread wrongly entitled "Rights", study about "Rights" and understand what they mean. And "equal" does not mean "similar".

Talking of women's rights in the quraan is not baseless nonesense, because they are there. I believe that without the help of the many honest and rational men, women will not be able to get their rights. It is worth mentioning that the most famous "women's rights" campaigners are but of those men.
Talking of equality between men and women is in as much as they are humans, biological differences notwithstanding.

                            Samia

You very convieniently dodged the verse

O you who believe, when you transact a loan for any period, you shall write it down. An impartial scribe shall do the writing. You are woman and offcourse the way you think is definitly different from that of a man thinks, but that is the reality you have to face, women is inferior creature to Man, NO HADITH, NO Stories but what I read in Quran and other religous scriptures leads me to this logical ending.

                            Samia

O you who believe, do not enter the prophet's homes unless you are given permission to eat, nor shall you force such an invitation in any manner. No, No Samia it is not about bad or good men.
Other Muslims cannot marry his wives after him or in his life, Why?
wives are women, Ayesha was still young when Messanger died, why shall not she marry another Man, were there no sexual needs for her? and why then women can marry messanger after death of his wife?

You don't see any rights here because you just don't want to.

                            Samia

You commit no error by divorcing the women before touching them, or before setting the dowry for them. In this case, you shall compensate them - the rich as he can afford and the poor as he can afford - an equitable compensation. This is a duty upon the righteous. If you divorce them before touching them, but after you had set the dowry for them, the compensation shall be half the dowry, unless they voluntarily forfeit their rights, or the party responsible for causing the divorce chooses to forfeit the dowry. To forfeit is closer to righteousness. You shall maintain the amicable relations among you. GOD is Seer of everything you do.

Samia again you don't go into depth, why Man has to compensate women? Do the women enjoy equal rights here? This clearly presents the picture of Islamic society where Man is earner and takes care of external affairs, and women of internal affairs and Man is dominant.

                              Samia

You very convieniently dodged the verse

O you who believe, when you transact a loan for any period, you shall write it down. An impartial scribe shall do the writing.

You are woman and offcourse the way you think is definitly different from that of a man thinks, but that is the reality you have to face, women is inferior creature to Man, NO HADITH, NO Stories but what I read in Quran and other religous scriptures leads me to this logical ending.

No, I did not dodge it. I explained this very verse in another thread, and was hoping that you might have remembered

                              http//free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=14251.msg126278#msg126278

The translation "biased" for the word "tuDill" is extremely wrong and becomes meaningless when it is followed by " reminds her". A biased person is not a forgetful person, and reminding him will not remove the bias.

                              Two questions

                              1. What if the man was forgetful? Or "biased", to borrow your tanslation? Would his testemony be accepted? NO. So, a woman, even when she forgets, her testimoney will be accepted after being rectified by another woman reminding her, who, in her turn, can be forgetful too, and reminde by the first .... In other words, a woman's testimony is more precious than a man's, so much that it wont be thrown away.

                              2. What if the woman did not "tuDill"? Notice that there is a condition, not just a general rule. There wont be need for another woman, of course.

women is inferior creature to Man

Do you understand what it means when God says "...and the male is not like the female?". What would you understand my position regarding milk to eggs in these two sentences

                              eggs are not like milk
                              milk is not like eggs?

No, No Samia it is not about bad or good men.
Other Muslims cannot marry his wives after him or in his life, Why?
wives are women, Ayesha was still young when Messanger died, why shall not she marry another Man, were there no sexual needs for her? and why then women can marry messanger after death of his wife?

Then why does God not find a man good enough for them, if women are inferior to men? This is just the opposite. Being wives of the prophet, their status goes from excellent to super excellent, unequal to any other man!! Women are so good they could be wives of the messenger, men are....Fill in the blanks.
Mreoever, this is a non generalizable case. I do not know why you brought it up in the first place.

Samia again you don't go into depth, why Man has to compensate women? Do the women enjoy equal rights here? This clearly presents the picture of Islamic society where Man is earner and takes care of external affairs, and women of internal affairs and Man is dominant.

She is not his wife and never was! What are you talking about? Of course the compensation is not for financial loss..she did not lose any finances, not yet. It is a compensation for wasting her valuable time when she would have been married to someone else and having children.

Samia, i admire your resilience. If it wasn't against the rules i would just give rager a litteral hand sign lol...but i know i'd be wrong, just my bad character coming out...

Raja, religious scriptures and even quran didn't fall down from the sky. They were written by MEN. Do you believe only men have been inspired by God because they are better than women? I don't believe it. Just who'd have listened to a woman in these times... I am a woman and a believer in God, but will never accept the idea that i am less than a man.I guess if the scriptures preached equality, you would not accept them. Some people are so complexed, that they need, in order to feel better, to consider themselves better than others (men, women, people with different skin colors or cultures). Either that, or they are afraid of the unknown or of what they do not understand.I think you are one of them. Thant is my logical ending...

Ok, I switch gears, and come down to the level we are at right now. In order to know exactly what we are talking about now, let me ask the following question, startin from the assertion that men are superior to women made by Rajah and I ask him so you are saying that you are superior to our mother Aisha, that you are superior to the sahibaat, that you are superior to Khadija? Please, answer this and do not evade the question.

Very logical if you're on crack. But in the sane world, this statement "women is inferior creature to Man", with respect to the quran, is known as a "loaded statement" and also as an "inference", i.e. "conjecture", i.e. "idiocy".

The sheer choice of interpretation shows you have the conclusion and are working backwards from it.

Oranges and apples - an orange must be peeled first, hence an orange is inferior to an apple. brickwall

Any prophet you see who is woman?

There is no woman prophet or messenger whose name is mentioned in the Qur'an. Three times in the Qur'an Allah says "We did not send before you any but men whom we did inspire? al-Nahl 1643; al-Anbiya' 217).

Any more evidence needed, Yes SAmia may be can but then she has to twist the meaning of "rijal".
