You give a description, rather than a definition of what you understand by intellect.
You did not ask for a definition and it it completely besides the point.
What I said is clear for those who wish to consider.
The mere fact that you feel I am referring to something that is not (yet) part of your experience is not sufficient grounds to denounce it.

What you say about revelation is basically what I said. Only you failed to look behind the wording and 'feel' its meaning.
What you say about duality, implying there is no difference between intelligence and revelation, is true for those who have not experienced it.
Just ask any artist, composer, scientist or prophet. They can tell you the difference. As do their works.
They, including Einstein, readily admit that the intellect leads to crap where as revelation/inspiration is the basis of their great works.

Duality IS the name of this divine game. It is only beyond its parameters that duality does not exist.
We are not (yet) beyond its parameters, as we live in a fallen world led by the intellect instead of leading it by divine inspiration.

Man you assume to much about what people know or have experienced or not and you assume too much about yourself. You assume you know too much about anything. If you get down from your magisterial chair it will be easier to maintain a dialogue with you.

Most of the things you are pouring here as if we were wretches I know them already backwards and forwards. Talking down to people makes dialogue difficult. In this forum there are very knowledgeable, humble people who know a lot and never show off nor make a show of what they know and you don't know nor assume that other do not know anything. May be you still have somethign very important to learn in order to be able to teach.

      Salaam

I am not aware of down talking people, like you are doing now....
I do not give a mere opinion, like you are doing now....
I try in the best way I know to point out inconsistencies, and yes, to bring something that from my point of view seems absent on this 'learned' forum. Your response is ample proof of this.

You are not willing or able to see what that 'something' is. OK, I respect that.
But do not deny others the right to process that 'something' in their own way, which is what you do by declaring my views null and void and imply/suggest that you do that on behalf of this forum.
I am sure there are those who better honor its name 'free-minds' than you seem capable of.

Your response gives the impression that you subconsciously operate from the premise that someone who does not share your views to a high degree , by definition can not know better than you.
Learn from Einstein who said that he who is not prepared to ponder the impossible, the ridiculous, the unacceptable, is not fit to do research.

        p.s.
I do agree with you about this forum, it is of better quality than many others I've seen.

          salaam

someone said, "i think, therefore i am."
when muhammad says, "i do not think," is there muhammad?

use the intellect by all means, but never ever be too quick to jump into conclusions. we have been warned not to take a stand on things we have no knowledge of. but too often we fell into the trap. the caution on jumping too quickly into conclusions is all over al-Qur'an, lest we forget.

indeed, when one has jumped into a conclusion about something, one will be prejudiced when some other facts are presented. and this is a fundamental mistake, because when one has made a conclusion, one has effectively erected a barrier between himseld/herself and God. God is the Teacher, remember. He is the Creator of knowledge, thus He knows, while we don't. somewhere in al-Qur'an we read, "... we have no knowledge except what You have taught us!"

so, use the intellect by all means, but never ever be quick to jump into conclusions. be open about things. honour God as the Creator. respect God as the Teacher. as Adley has stated, ask Him. and be humble. be always aware of His status. insha-Allah, He will guide one to an attainment of a higher understanding - something beyond the grasp of human intellect.

let God guide us. understand Him. recognise Him. Honour Him. insha-Allah He will guide us on the honourable path.

          employ logic like ibrahim.
          but be 'ummiy' like muhammad.
then only one will comprehend, insha-Allah, what is revelation.

          peace!

          jb
p.s. 'ummiy' is 'not knowing the message'. muhammad did not know the message prior to his lectures (save for al-'alaq, or the first surah), because he did not employ his brains to compose the lectures. indeed, he was learning while delivering the lectures. and the compilation of the lectures is what we have before us now, and called al-Qur'an. 'iqra'' is 'ponder' while 'al-qur'an' is 'the subjects for ponderment/pondering'. do the litmus tests, if you must, insha-Allah a comprehension is attained.

The intellect without a doubt. I love Islam, and I believe in the Quran but every day when I read the Quran I see a very human voice not a voice of God.
