Alsalam alikum
I've read that you don't believe that women has to cover their hair because God never mentioned in the Quran the word hair to be covered . Well the word khimar is the word mentioned and it is mentioned to cover the bosom which means it's something different from our clothes that has to cover the bosom and that it suppose to be coming from over the body and certainly not from down . We add to that it is a FACT that the wives of prophet Muhamed and the women during his days were covering their hair , if he understood the verse differently he would has explained that to them . It is not a matter of traditions or customs because surely the prophet wouldn't allow something like that to be in Islam if it is not a real part of it . -

If you do then I can understand you saying it's a "fact" but if you believe there are contradictions in hadiths then you can't say its a FACT that the wives of the Prophet covered their hair as the source your using has discrepancies.
There are places in Africa I believe where its obligatory for the male to cover his hair. Not purely based on that reasoning you can see its a cultural dress and nothing to do with the deen/islam.

Are you trying to tell me that they weren't covering their hair during the days of prophet Muhamed ?
It is irrelevant that some males in Africa are covering head , it's up to them . We are talking about the community of the prophet .
There is no doubt that women were covering their hair during the days of prophet Muhamed . Not everything in history we have to reject and doubt. -

Not everything in history we have to reject and doubt. You may have your own ideas about the history of dress, but the Quran does not say to cover the head. If it wanted the head covered, nothing easier than saying it just as it says to cover the bosom. Anything else is speculation and adding to the Quran.

Not everything in history we have to reject and doubt. The comment I've highlighted in bold makes me assume you don't take hadith as 100% divine which is a good starting point to debate. What you are doing is working the problem backwards and looking at the Prophets community at that time using inconsistent source(hadith). I assume you take Al-Quran as 100% divine and having no contradictions??Hence its fair and logical to assume we would find the answer to our question on what is obligatory in islam in Al-Quran. Unfortantely culture has crept into islam and people have classed it as part of Allahs deen when Allah hasn't commanded it. If Allah wanted to say cover your RAAS(head) or SHAAR(hair) He would have done so in the verse.
There's a difference between islam and culture. The women MAY have been covering their head as part of the cultural wear in those days but it certainly wasn't commanded by Allah as part of islam. My example of men covering their head was merely an example to show how diverse culture is in "islamic" society and how misguided people make it part of islam when it certainly isn't.
I do hope brother you re-consider your position on this matter by researching and studying Al-Quran.

I told you before that they wouldn't have done that without the approval of the prophet , if he approved it , it means that what is his understanding of the verse.

why would they need approval of THAT?
did they start covering their hair after that verse was revealed?
now i'm all for covering the body, but i think (and this is just my opinion) that the covering is so we woiuldn't get any sexual thoughts when looking at each other... that is of course if you take 2429-30 to mean 'covering of the BODY'

Salam Fajr,
Using the argument
? Muhammad did not forbid his wives to wear hijab?
is not supportive of the argument
? Hijab is an obligation of women. ?

This is not an answer respected colleague , why isn't it a good argument ? No I still can't see why would he allow them to wear it if it was not obligatory !!

Peace Fajr,
We add to that it is a FACT that the wives of prophet Muhamed and the women during his days were covering their hair
Here is the main hadith on this...
Book 32, Number 4092
Narrated Aisha, Ummul Mu'mininAsma, daughter of AbuBakr, entered upon the Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) wearing thin clothes. The Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) turned his attention from her. He said O Asma', when a woman reaches the age of menstruation, it does not suit her that she displays her parts of body except this and this, and he pointed to her face and hands.
What is the main objection in dialog; was it "wearing thin clothing" or is hair mentioned?
Please point to these women?s faces and then point to their heads. Do you see hair?

Above was style in Middle East only 100 years ago which didn't change much and women wore head coverings which they pulled the ends back behind the neck to expose dresses with plunging necklines. Verses advised instead to pull ends forward and cover their cleavage area and not prance about half naked in thin house garments. Think of construction workers harassing loosely clothe women in downtown New York.

This is pretty weak brother. Going by your logic if something IS NOT obligatory why would the Prophet force/challenge it?? ???
I believe head covering at that time was a cultural/fashion dress already being done by the people and Al-Quran laid down the guideline of dress code for ALL of humankind. hence if we go by what your saying he would have allowed the head covering IF the people were doing it at that time but NOT making it part of islamic dress code.PEACE

What is the main objection in dialog; was it "wearing thin clothing" or is hair mentioned? No , if the prophet is telling her nothing should be shown except hands and face that means the hair shouldn't be shown , it is not part of the face , it is part of the head . The issue is not the thin clothes but what is allowed to show.

How authentic is that hadith and do you know exactly what was meant; head, hair, face, or head/hair/face?
Also, please point to her face and then point to her head?

Do you believe hadith to be 100% authentic?
-
The Quran gives the dress code!
If we believe 2) in totality then we know the Prophet was guided and could not have gone against Al-Quran principles/laws.
If you believe hadith to be 100% authentic then I will leave it at that as we can discuss hadiths in another topic.
If you don't believe it to be 100% authentic then like I said your working the problem backwards as you admit the source your using is not 100% authentic....hence you will have a dilemma finding out which hadiths are accurate and which aren't.
Do you honestly believe Allah would want you to follow a source which isn't 100% accurate to fill in details of Al-Quran which He himself says is fully detailed and complete??

Exactly , why would God leave us arguing about what is authentic and what is not authentic and to complete the Quran as if the Quran is not complete ?!!!

There's a very good reason why both men and women cover their heads when outdoors in Arabia. The sun is really hot and it's not pleasent getting sand in your hair. Unfortunately, sex obcessed imam's took things out of context to force women to dress like pengiuns!

But they were not covering it before Islam , they used to show their hair and part of their bosom also.
Imams are not sex obsessed , practically there is a real difference between a woman showing her her hair and a woman covering it , really the hair gives a lot of beauty to the woman , so the word adornment in the Quran could be interpreted as not showing the hair because it is a real adornment .
