Hijab

Wa alaikum Alsalam TAJ
Yes , I do . why? . It is not written in the Quran ? The way we pray is not written in the Quran but it reached us by tawator , same for covering the hair , one hadith says " No salat accepted from the woman without khimar " Khimar was known to them as a head cover .
Peace.

Peace Fajr,
It is not a matter of traditions or customs because surely the prophet wouldn't allow something like that to be in Islam if it is not a real part of it .
Well, following that logic, sandals should also be obligatory.
Look, I don't think anyone has a problem with people wearing hijab. The problem comes when people say it's obligatory based on the qur'an, when it clearly is not. And whoever said salat is not accepted without khimar should explain that to the birds (who know their salat according to the qur'an).Peace,

Salam Tay
It is obligatory just because of the word khimar . Khimar means the head cover. I don't know why people aren't convinced of hijab when this word khimar is there .

Well thank God, Fajr, now I see that, since the word "pork" is mentionned in the Quran, we Muslims have the obligation to eat pork. You have saved us, otherwise we might have thought that we were under no obligation to eat pork, but that Word being mentioned in the Quran, there is not doubt now that we have the obligation to eat pork. You are such a tremendous reasoner. But having such powerful reasons on your side, why do you follow the Goebbelsian tactic of repeating things ad nauseam, as if you were convinced that repeating them will make people believe what they through reason do not believe?
I ask myself if you think perhaps that you are playing here some game of wits, but imposing on people obligations that God has not imposed is taking a lot upon yourself. You are not God to play with His words or impose what you think His words should have been. Is it really God?s will what you mean to serve?
Regarding prayers with your head covered because you are woman, according to you, if you are alone with God, who is it that your hair might tempt?

Salam alikum Huruf
It is not only the word khimar is in the Quran but also the word salat , zaka , haj . The word pigs , intoxications and gambling were associated with prohibition . The word khimar was associated with putting it to cover the bosom , no prohibition here .
You know huruf it is not a fight but we try to find away not to understand the Quran and follow it , I'm not imposing it on anybody . If you strongly believe that it is not obligation then inshaAllah it will be ok , those who think and know it is an obligation and still not wear it here I think comes the problem .Peace.

who is it that your hair might tempt?
I remember someone telling me the jinn get tempted by long flowing hair and they are just waiting for an opportunity when a woman has her hair undone... ;D I obviously asked, so what happens then, what followed was a dramatic pause and then "well of course they possess you!" with a how very dumb look at me. I said, clearly, that is indeed a dire predicament especially when brooms are involved, not to mention exorcists who want to be alone with the possessed women during some exorcisms.

The problem comes from where there is no command you put in a command, for no reason, gratuitously, because somebody seems to think that the Quran is short in words and has missed something that should have been done, but that the Quran has failed to do, because it cannot be that the Quran couldn't care less whether the hair is covered or not, can it? No it cannot be, the Quran cannot be right and everybody wrong, can it?
Hijab is an invention. No million of words in the Quran can make a command appear where there is none. AND there is no command, and nowhere is the usefulness or morality of any hijab pointed at or suggested.
Salaam

No hijab is not an invention , and Quran hasn't failed to mention it , it is some people insist on ignoring the CLEAR meaning of some words just because it doesn't make sense to them how could they cover something Allah has created .

Fajr,
People here tend not to believe something just because it is said over and over again. We prefer evidence. Got any?
Here are the FACTS
The word "hijab" is never used to mean an item of clothing, let alone a "headscarf" in The Quran.
The word "khumur" (plural of "khimaar" has been used to mean general coverings in Classical Arabic dictionaries, as well as a covering for the head.
If one takes related verses into account (e.g. here), it only serves to weaken the compulsory head cover argument, not strengthen it.
The maximum that can be proven from The Quran is that for women to wear a head cover is a possibility, NOT obligatory. An honest person would admit that there is no explicit/clear Quranic command. It may come as a surprise to some but this topic has been discussed in significant detail before, much more than on this thread, and with actual evidence being cited, here is one example

Salam Fajr,
Salam Fajr,
Do you cover your hair during prayers?
Wa alaikum Alsalam TAJ
Yes , I do . why? . It is not written in the Quran ? The way we pray is not written in the Quran but it reached us by tawator , same for covering the hair , one hadith says " No salat accepted from the woman without khimar " Khimar was known to them as a head cover .
Peace. You seem to take the Quran ever so lightly! This is the impression I get from your reply. It is as if you were saying
" Yes , I do . Why? . It's not written in the Quran ? Really!? But hey, so what!? Why should that matter to me, to you, or to any muslim!? Whether it's in the Quran or not should not mean anything. Since all our actions and understandings reached us by tawator then that is all that matters, my dear! Listen to me! The way we pray is not written in the Quran but it reached us by tawator , same for covering the hair. one hadith says " No salat accepted from the woman without khimar " Khimar was known to them as a head cover. I mean, it is all in tawator. Whatever you would like to know about, you'd find in tawator. The Quran!? My dear, my dear, what does the Quran say/explain? Are you kidding me? I cannot find in it any of what I need to know in order to live a normal life. Ok, God gives me one word Salat, that's it!!? That IS it!? Now, how on earth would I figure it out if it wasn't for tawator!!?? Come on! How would I figure my whole life if it wasn't for tawator!? Tawator and I are like this group ! It is the water I drink, the air I breathe! Where would I be if it wasn?t for tawator? Where would the Quran be if it wasn?t for tawator!? Can't you get it!? Taj! Taj! I am trying to help you and all the people here, to show you the right path, the path that would grant you paradise! Listen to me,Taj! As long as we have tawator, who cares what the Quran says or does NOT say!! We are to follow tawator, not Quran! Hello!? ... Anybody there!?"
That is my impression from your reply and your posts in general. How am I doing so far?
P.S. The writing in maroon is just my impression of Fajr's reply, the writing in bold maroon is Fajr's own words.

Salaam Fajr,
One thing I must recognize you do not get angry. That is a great thing and I admire it.
Now, I will try to keep my tendency to sarcasm aside.
When I insist that there is no command in the Quran in this topic and that we should refrain from inventing burdens when none is laid down, I am not doing it because I want to do things easier for me or for anybody. It is because I do Believe that God knows what He is doing and we are not going to improve on Him. We are constantly reminded in the Quran to think, ponder and reflect. There is a hadith I think -which I am not going to push down anybody's throat- but which does make sense, I think it is a qudsi in which God is said to say "I wanted to be known and created the human". It makes sense and ties in with this repeated many many times injuction in the Quran to think, think everything thoroughly and through. Doesn't it also make sense that in order to think, to prode, to KNOW, people must have space, mental moral space to think through, act through and live thorugh thoroughly,
fully, to fully feel experience how God's wisdom works on us and everything. When God chooses not to put a burden on us, He is giving us space, because He knows and he wants us to travel and ponder that space or ignore that space or whatever, but He Has Given us that space. ?Don't we realise that any amount of freedom and choice and elements to handle that we are deprived of are so many instruments of love of God that we get deprived of? Who Am I to say that a person with her body covered from toe to head is stupid or is doing wrong? I m nobody to say that, and in fact I don't say it. I say that it is his or her business. This person has been given space by God to evolve and handle whatever elements come into his or her life and set up, and has experiences that God has meant for him or her. I have nothing to say about that, except that if I am a friend of that person I will give the best honest advice I am capable of. But who am I to put any condition on him or her, except as a personal opinion to the circumstances ad hand, which may be useful or not. And the opposite works too, who is anybody to say if you put this burden on yourself God will be more pleased with you? God will impose his burdens on everybody through life, and may have nothing to do with what we expect. But who are we to dispise the freedom and space that God has given us to go through our lives, lives which may on the other hands entail burdens of another kind that may require all our strength in order to assume them? and still we will thank Him for them, because if they come from Him undoubtedly that is our crown and our glory and what else could we ask for. But let us keep to what comes from Him, and let us be thankful for the burdens that He puts on us and for those that He doesn't put on us and let us fulfill tothe best of our ability his many times repeated injunctions to think, reflect, ponder, go deeply into things... and love Him by loving our destiny which He crafts for us.Salaam

That one thing I love about being God alone Muslim, the fact is if we go only by the Quran Islam will seem alot easier , simpler and with very few prohibitions , that's what it should be . I can't see Quran is putting any burden on us if we followed it alone and that what God wants from us . I never thought I will ever think of following Quran alone , I was always defending the sunna but I found myself in the end feel uneasy , something was bugging me , I keep on defending something I'm not much convinced of and that put me in a conflict . I pray to Allah to guide us all to His right path.
Peace to you. -
Salaam, Fajr, I am glad and thankful that the rantings on this site have helped you understand yourself better and love more what God has disposed for us. I am glad that the truthful Quran is making your life lighter and enlightened.
Salaam, sister, may God bless you and make you a help for everybody.

Alsalam alikum
I've read that you don't believe that women has to cover their hair because God never mentioned in the Quran the word hair to be covered . Well the word khimar is the word mentioned and it is mentioned to cover the bosom which means it's something different from our clothes that has to cover the bosom and that it suppose to be coming from over the body and certainly not from down . We add to that it is a FACT that the wives of prophet Muhamed and the women during his days were covering their hair , if he understood the verse differently he would has explained that to them . It is not a matter of traditions or customs because surely the prophet wouldn't allow something like that to be in Islam if it is not a real part of it .Peace,
Respectfully."O children of Adam, we have provided you with garments to cover your bodies, as well as for luxury. But the best garment is the garment of righteousness. These are some of GOD's signs, that they may take heed."
2431 "And tell the believing women to subdue their eyes, and maintain their chastity. They shall not reveal any parts of their bodies, except that which is necessary. They shall cover their chests, (with their Khimar) and shall not relax this code in the presence of other than their husbands, their fathers, the fathers of their husbands, their sons, the sons of their husbands, their brothers, the sons of their brothers, the sons of their sisters, other women, the male servants or employees whose sexual drive has been nullified, or the children who have not reached puberty. They shall not strike their feet when they walk in order to shake and reveal certain details of their bodies. All of you shall repent to GOD, O you believers, that you may succeed." 2431 Khalifa's translation.
"O prophet, tell your wives, your daughters, and the wives of the believers that they shall LENGTHEN their garments. Thus, they will be recognized and avoid being insulted. God is Forgiver, Most Merciful." 3359
Need i say more?
The Exalted God AllPowerful, The Most Merciful is very clear and when He, The Most High, wants us to do soemthing, He, The Most Just, makes it very clear and makes sure it is understood. The AllMighty God, The Most Merciful is truly, really The MOST Merciful because He gives us lots of freedom and gives us a chance to make many choices and decisions.
Glory be to God, Glory be to God.
Glory be to God, Glory be to God.Peace.
