I think you are missing something, the verse informs us that this covenant was taken from the prophets so excluding Muhammad from the covenant will definately exclude him from the prophets which will violet 3340. And for your information Muhammad was included in the covenant as detailed in 337. And for the title "messenger of the covenant" I doubt if you will believe it since maybe you have some explanation for this ayat 24. You know what I mean right?
I understand what you're saying, but you also have to look at the complete context of the passage. The verse Q. 381 is not a self-standing passage, it's is directly in line with the other surrounding verses. The passages before it are speaking of the Jews and Nazarenes, telling them to serve Allah alone and practice Islaam (which they were taught in the scripture). Then, verse 81 says that a messenger would come confirming the book that these people ("ahl al kitaab" had received, in the forms of the Torah and Evangel. After that, verse 84 says that the people declared that they would accept Islaam and all the prophets equally. What's necessary to note in that verse is that Muhammad is not mentioned anywhere; only the Jewish prophets are mentioned, the prophets of the Jews and Nazarenes... Then, even after this, verse 86 says that these people rejected the messenger, saying they disbelieved after believing. This is because they accepted Islaam in the past (in the forms of Judaism and Nazarenism), but they later rejected Muhammad and the Qur'aan.
Read Q. 381-91, and you should understand the entire context of the passage and who this "messenger" would be... Like I said, Muhammad is not excluded from the assembly of prophets, but 381 is not giving a quote from Allah to the prophets; it's a quote from the prophets to their people. The people were told to believe in and support the coming messenger, who would verify the (at that time) existing scriptures... If this is referring to Allah talking to His prophets, then how can Abraham, Noah, Jesus, Moses, Muhammad, David, or Solomon believe in and support a "messenger of the covenant" in our days? All those prophets are dead, at least on our plane of existence. There's no way they could believe in and support a messenger now.
