    Salam Everybody,

That made a long time that I didn't send a message on the forum, I hope that you are well. Actually, I'm working on a project, I will create an artisanal bio soap factory.
As the next full moon is for soon here, I will fast since the 17th july during 10 days.
I wish you a good fasting!

    Salam

                  Peace.

                  Marie,

why have you chosen the 3rd versus the 18th? Are you calculating it by the first new moon after the Summer Solstice? If so, then I can understand how you came to July 3rd, but if it supposed to be based on the first full moon after the Summer Solstice, then wouldn't the date be the 18th of July? Thus, one would witness the full moon on the 18th (since a quranic day begins with dawn) and then one would begin their fast on the 19th?

What is your basis for beginning your fast on the 3rd on the New Moon vs. the Full moon?

Please provide quranic proofs as I am interested in clarifying this issue for myself before the day we are to fast, God willing.

                  I appreciate your speedy response.

                  Glory Be To Our God.

                    Peace GloryBeToOurGod,

You are right, the first full moon is visible the 17th of July, then the first day of abstinence will be started the 18th of July.
                    Sorry for my big mistake.

                    Thanks for your good question.

I wish to modify the title of my first post but I do not see the button modify beside quote".

                      Peace.

God willing, I will also be fasting the 19th of July. Since, the full moon will be seen on the 18th then that would be the night before fasting, then I would fast Godwilling, on the 19th. Am I understanding this correctly?

I also contemplated if I saw the moon on midnight of the 18th then I could start my fast on the 18th, but I realized a quranic day starts with dawn not midnight, so therefore what my clock might say as the 18th is still really the 17th quranically. The 18th quranically would begin on the dawn of the 18th, and I could not witness the moon until that day maybe earliest 530 or 6 pm. Then I could fast the next day since I witnessed it today the 18th in the evening, then logically I assume you start the next dawn which would be the 19th. Am I understanding this correctly? Why did you say the 17th? Am i missing something?

We witness the full moon on the 18th

                      We fast on the 19th

Complete the ten days on the sun set on the 28th.

                      Which would equal= 18th evening= (1) night

                      19 -day of fasting (1) night (2)
                      20-day of fasting (2) night (3)
                      21-day of fasting (3) night (4)
                      22-day of fasting (4) night (5)
                      23-day of fasting (5) night (6)
                      24-day of fasting (6) night (7)
                      25-day of fasting (7) night (8
                      26-day of fasting (8 night (9)
                      27-day of fasting (9) night (10)
                      28-day of fasting (10) night (11)

So this would be 10 days and 11 nights?
or does the night of the 28th not count as a night?

If this count is accurate then that would give us 10 even (days) and 11 odd (nights)

Does this seem accurate to you?

Anyone know the night of power? Is it the first night before the fast? or the last night of the fast? or some other day in the middle?

                      Glory Be To Our God

Any information I have put into this post is to the best of my ability as of today, and all information should be verified.

                          Peace,

                          Peace.

You are right, 17th or 18th doesn't matter, when one witnesse the full moon before the dawn, then one can start abstinence on the following day.
I have said 17 th of july according my internet research, please this information should be verified.

IMHO, the dawn (1) marks the end of 16th of july and the beginning and of the following day (17th of july). The 17th of july lasts until the next dawn (2) which marks the begining of the 18th of july.
If you witness the full moon after the dawn (2), then you can start abtinence on 18th of july.
                          I wish that I'm clear.

It is a pleasure to be back on the forum even for a short time. Thanks you all for your encouragements and warm welcome.

                          Siyam mubark!

                            Peace,
                            respectfully.

Since i have read this"The month of Ramadan is the one in which the Quran was sent down, a guidance for mankind, clear proofs for the guidance, the Criterion; so whoever amongst you witnesses this month, let him fast it." (cf. Surah al-Baqarah 2185)

I'm assuming that since the Quran was revealed in the month of Ramadan (extreme heat) we must fast during this entire month, or am i missing something?
                            When do we fast then?

Can you provide the evidence as to when does the fasting start, evidences from the Quran?
Also, provide evidences that fasting lasts only ten days and not full month.

                            July, 3rd?
                            July, 18th?
Thank you for your speedy response.
Glory be to our God, The MOST Merciful.
                            Bof bless you all.
                            Peace.

I believe ALShHaWR is means month...

936 BEHOLD, the number of months, in the sight of God, is twelve months, in God's decree on the day when He created the heavens and the earth; out of these, four are sacredthis is the ever-true law . Do not, then, sin against yourselves with regard to these . And fight against those who ascribe divinity to aught beside God, all together-just as they fight against you, all together -and know that God is with those who are conscious of Him.

If meant 10 days then the above verse would make no sense. If it means month then it makes perfect sense.

                                    Peace Aalmakto and Alen,

One of the meanings of ShHR given by Lisan Al-3arab is "full moon". You might want to check the following article to see how people came to their understanding

                                    Peace,

                                    Peace Ayman,

Thanks for the article. 2 main issues for me

                                    One

                                    973, 2226, 2234, 92, 654, 95, 2194, 936, 4615, 492, 584 (some verses with ShHR that to my knowledge mean Month)

Do you have examples of verses that use ShHR as Moon as opposed to Month?

                                    Two

You wrote that arbritrary time-frames are man-made but 936 gives clues that there may be some kind of "Calendar" that is intended for mankind.

ShHR doesn't mean "moon". The word "QMR" means "moon". The word "ShHR" means "full-moon" and "HLAL" means "crescent moon".

The word ShHR is ALWAYS used to mean "full-moon" in the great reading and it never means "month".

Take 2226 for example which is telling the divorced women to "TRBS" for four ShHR. The word used, TRBS is also used in 2228 and it clearly means to be waiting on alert for an event. Clearly, the mensturation in 2228 is an event just like the full-moon is an event. It is not surprising that the god is using similar terms for counting of the menstruation as for counting the full-moons because both are events that are counted in the same way. Notice that in 2228 in addition to "TRBS" the word "Bi-ANFSHN" (in themselves) is added. Because unlike ShHR/full-moons which are events witnessed by everyone, only the woman would know when she gets her menstruation. Once she counts three then she is done.

                                      Two

No it doesn't tell you about any man-made calendars. It tells you about a natural phenomena and this is confirmed by the god saying "at the time he created the heavens and the earth", long before there were humans around to use calendars and long before humans evolved into the creatures that can make calendars. All animal life long before humans follows the natural cycles of the sun and the moon regardless of any man-made calendars. This is also significant in light of the fact that 936 mentions the period of the four inviolable full moons that we must count for the hunting restrictions on wildlife, which follow natural cycle not man-made calendars.

                                      Peace,

                                          Salam all,

According to some moon phase calculators, the full moon for July, 2008 is on July 18th at 759 am. It will be difficult to witness this full moon during the day time so the moon on the preceding night i.e. July 17th can be considered the full moon and fasting will start from July 18th. The moon on the evening of July 18th IS NOT THE FULL MOON.

Other moon phase calculators give July 17th as the date for full moon which would again necessitate fasting on July 18th.
