I read your article, but since the article doesn't mention slaughter anywhere, it still leaves me wondering regarding my question. Are you saying ritual slaughter is a requirement or not?

Thanks for your answers and views so far. If everyone agrees that mentioning God's name during slaughter is not an absolute requirement for meat to be lawful, can't this excerpt be removed from this article?

It's been a while since I read some articles on the site and after a discussion with my wife, I stumbled upon the Free-Minds.org article on dietary prohibitions in Islam (http//www.free-minds.org/dietary-prohibitions). In this article, I was disturbed by the following excerpt

"Slaughtering an animal without mentioning God?s name at the time of slaughter makes the animal forbidden. This is to acknowledge God?s gift of the livestock to the Children of Adam which have been highlighted in many verses and for which the entire Pilgrimage is designed (see 222."

My own interpretation of dietary prohitibitions (since I came to the path of Quran-only) has always dismissed the whole notion of ritual slaughtering being necessary for meat to be halal, but this excerpt introduces it again. Also, 2228 deals with Hadj and it's rituals and not with general dietary prohibitions. I can vividly remember earlier articles on free-minds.org that dealt with dietary prohibitions that did not include this excerpt and dismissed the notion of ritual slaughtering in relation to making meat lawful. This feels a bit like regression. What do you think? I am looking forward to your thoughts on this.
