  • Who is the majority ? in verse 6:116
    D dakidz

The verse does not mention Christians or jews ,it could mean atheists, pagans, deist, henotheist ,agnostics, or they all combined, whatever it is, that?s not the point of the verse. The meaning behind the verse is that one should not follow/adhere to in terms of majority (the mass society), rejecting the bandwagon fallacy in other words, but obey based on facts and reason.

  • Where has the EYE for AN EYE ! GONE?
    D dakidz

O you who believe, equivalence is the law decreed for you when dealing with murder - the free for the free, the slave for the slave, the female for the female. If one is pardoned by the victim's kin, an appreciative response is in order, and an equitable compensation shall be paid. This is an alleviation from your Lord and mercy. Anyone who transgresses beyond this incurs a painful retribution.

Its the victim's kin , not brother. But in a lot of the translations, it mean 'brother'. What if the victim doesn't have a brother ?

  • Who is the majority ? in verse 6:116
    D dakidz
    1. O you who believe, you shall believe in GOD and His messenger, and the scripture He has revealed through His messenger, and the scripture He has revealed before that. Anyone who refuses to believe in GOD, and His angels, and His scriptures, and His messengers, and the Last Day, has indeed strayed far astray.

I think that what 6116 is about is to not make the decision to obey based on the opinions of the mass society(rather than facts and proofs), because that would be an argument of consensus.

    Questions/Comments on the Quran

  • Is idol worship a religion?
    D dakidz

2193 And fight them(polytheists) so there is no more persecution, and so that the system is God?s. If they(polytheists) cease, then there will be no aggression except against the az-zalimun(wicked).

This prove that not all polytheists are wicked, only the ones who transgressed and oppressed and doing things that goes against god's system.

From the verses, we could see the kind of 'polytheistic beliefs' that is condemned.

6137 Thus, for those who set up partners their partners adorned the killing of born children, in order to turn them and to confuse their system for them. Had God willed they would not have done this, so ignore them and what they invent

6139 And they said ?What is in the bellies of these livestock is purely for our males and forbidden for our wives, and if comes out dead, then they will be partners in it.? God will recompense them for what they describe. He is Wise, Knowledgeable. (gender discrimination)

4221 Or do they have partners who decree for them a system which has not been authorized/verified by God(teaching that contradict islam)? And if it were not for the word already given, they would have been judged immediately. Indeed, the transgressors will have a painful retribution.

1834 Once, after harvesting, he boastfully told his friend "I am far more prosperous than you, and I command more respect from the people." (arrogancy)

Say if a person set up partners beside god and worship them, but whose beliefs coincide with god's, then these polytheists are not considered evil-doers?

    Thanks for the quick replies,

The topic is misleading , i should have changed it to "are idol worshippers/polytheists evil ?"

1017 Who is more wicked than one who invents lies about God or denies His signs? The criminals will never succeed.

1018 And they serve besides God what does not harm them or benefit them, and they say ?These are our intercessors with God.? Say ?Are you informing God of what He does not know in the heavens or in the Earth?? Be He glorified and high above what they set up.

This has been bothering me. What do 'they' in verse 1018 specifically refers to ? It seems that "they" are polytheists and polytheists are being equated with criminals(zalimun, the wicked ones) . What about the polytheists who ceased and no longer transgressed ? Are they considered criminals/wicked as well ?

    god bless

  • Acceptable to attack innocent polytheists? / What is fitnah??
    D dakidz

What about mujrimoon ? I found out that it means 'criminal', if so then what is the difference between zalimun and mujrimun ? zalimun = evil-doers , mujrimoon = criminals (therefore evil-doers too?)

I'm sorry for the trouble, but is there a good website that allows me to search for the meaning of an arabic word using its phonetical form such as 'zalimun, fitna etc'.

    Peace

  • Is idol worship a religion?
    D dakidz

    Salam,

I would also add that idol worship (setting-up partners with God) is an unforgivable sin punishable by Hell.

Setting up partners with god but adhere to islamic morality by doing good deeds,is still an unforgivable sin ? That ain't right.

But i can see why worshiping an object is destructive. When you worshiped an object(statues, celebrities, money, ego) , you tend to be obsessed with it that you would do anything for it.But if a person worship something other than god,but still refrain from evil, what would that make him ?

  • Acceptable to attack innocent polytheists? / What is fitnah??
    D dakidz

The reason is because there is only 1 God. So they are worshiping falsehood. That does not mean we have to make war against all the Polytheists or oppress them, it just means in the hereafter they have to answer before God as to why they chose to ascribe partners.

But if the 'polytheists' cease let there be no transgression except against the polytheists

If you were to translate az-zalimun as polytheist in this case, that wouldn't really make sense so i believed az-zalimun only means wrongdoers which could be anybody including the hypocritical muslims themselves, right ?

wrongdoing an action that fails to conform to standards of law or morality
The polytheists doesn't have to be wrongdoers if they followed the universal morality, i would categorize the goods ones as 'false-believers' rather than wrongdoers.

    Zalimun means wicked.
    See bolded
Obviously it can include the Polytheists (as they are wrongdoers in the fact that they worship many Gods) but does not mean Polytheist.

How can worshiping many gods mean that you're a person who commit evil deeds(wrongdoers) ?

  • 42:38 Mutual consultation only with the believers ??
    D dakidz

4238 Those who have responded to their Lord, and they hold the contact prayer, and their affairs are conducted by mutual consultation among themselves, and from Our provisions to them they give.

It does not mention unbelievers , so is it really democratic ?

    Questions/Comments on the Quran

  • Who is the majority ? in verse 6:116
    D dakidz

6116 If you obey the majority of those on earth they will lead you away from God's path; that is because they follow conjecture, and that is because they only guess.

Most of the people ,at the time of islam, were the pagans ,jews or Christians ? If the 'majority' refers to jews and christians, does that mean we shouldn't obey them ? But in some verses, god order us to adhere to the words in the bible, so should we obey them or not ?

    Questions/Comments on the Quran

  • What does 'a reminder' mean in 6:69
    D dakidz

If you see those who mock our revelations, you shall avoid them until they delve into another subject. If the devil causes you to forget, then, as soon as you remember, do not sit with such evil people. 668

669 Those who are aware are not held accountable for them, but a reminder may help them to be aware.

Is it to remind them who is the true god and the righteous way ? Or to remind them to stop mocking the revelations?

  • Is idol worship a religion?
    D dakidz

Did god said that idol worship is evil (whats so evil about eastern-buddhism and hinduism?) even if its teachings correspond to islamic moral imperatives?

?There is no compulsion in religion; the proper way has been made clear from the wrong way. Whoever rejects evil, and believes in God, has grasped the firm branch that will never break. God is Hearer, Knower.?

The way i understand 'believes in god' , is to follow god's commandments.

    Questions/Comments on the Quran

  • Acceptable to attack innocent polytheists? / What is fitnah??
    D dakidz

    2193 (hilal/khan)

And fight them until there is no more Fitnah (disbelief and worshipping of others along with All?h) and (all and every other kind of) worship is for All?h (Alone). But if they cease let there be no transgression except against Az-Z?lim?n (the polytheists, and wrong-doers, etc.)

2193 Waqatiloohum hatta latakoona fitnatun wayakoona alddeenu lillahi fa-iniintahaw fala AAudwana illa AAala alththalimeena

It doesn't seem that the word 'zalimun' is mentioned anywhere in the transliteration , yet it is being emphasized in some translations(why?), but what is the meaning of 'zalimun'? Polytheists ?

Hilal had stated that fitnah means a disbelief in allah, but in most translations it means oppression , so which one is the right meaning ?
What does the word 'fitnah' means ? Could Anyone with good arabic knowledge help to explain it to me ?

I'm having debate with an atheist on youtube and i would greatly appreciate the comments.

    Questions/Comments on the Quran

  • Its reasonable to punish those who surrendered?
    D dakidz

4240 The recompense for a crime shall be its equivalence, but whoever forgives and makes right, then his reward is upon God. He does not like the wrongdoers. (edip yuksel)

4240 But requiting evil may, too, become an evil, hence, whoever par?dons and makes peace, his reward rests with God - for, verily, He does not love evildoers. (M . asad)

Does that mean that its allowable to punish the wrongdoers ,after they have surrendered ?
Or ,based on M asadi's translation, that an act of requital is evil therefore its not allowable as god hates the evildoers?
