  • Can salat method be derived from Quran....
    J journeyman

    Salam,

It is interesting to note that no where in any current form do we have today has God ever described how to pray physically. God does give us guidance on what to say. All through the Quran are little snippets of prayer and Jesus gave us the Lord's Prayer when asked how to pray. So perhaps it does not matter what we physically do during our time of prayer but what is in our hearts and minds and the intention of having a moment with our Creator. Humbling ourselves in prostration puts on a good show but it means nothing if the intention from within does not exist.

  • Hot/"ramadan" Answer
    J journeyman

Peace brothers and sister. I am new here (and new to Islam) and am getting ready to observe Ramadan for the first time. My friends are Sunni and tell me that the actual time of Ramadan is for 30 days (one can continue to fast an extra 10 days for some reason if they choose) and that it actually moves during the year because of the Islamic calender vs. the majority 365 day/year calender. I have read the posts in this thread and understand the scientific and Quranic evidence but yet no one has actually said when Ramadan should be or for how long or am I just missing something??? Please help! ???

  • In need of support/reassurance
    J journeyman

    ???
    Salam brothers and sisters,

I really need some assurance. I am fairly new to Islam my journey has been over two years now. I work with Sunnis who have been helpful in journey, at times very confusing as a lot of their views are based on Hadith. I don't believe in the Hadith, if Allah had wanted anything more in the Quran it would be in there. For the first time I tried to pray at work ( the midmost prayer ) and my friend said it was wrong because I didn't wear hijab. I don't believe we are ordered by Allah to wear a covering on our heads. We should dress modestly, covering our private parts and not show off our breasts. This has really pushed me back, I want to take the time with my Creator but I don't want to deal with the negativity from my coworkers over a piece of cloth. Part of me feels I should just keepto myself and pray at home.

  • Forgiven for Past Year and the Next?!?!?!?
    J journeyman

    Peace everyone,

I am totally confounded to where this came from. My friend said there is some random night known only to God that is somewhere between the 20th of Ramadan (per Islamic Calender) and the 22nd. On this night if you wake up around 1 am to pray and read Quran continuously until 5 am then God will forgive all your sins for the past year and the next coming year. What the..? Please has anyone heard this? confused

  • Brushing Teeth???
    J journeyman

    Peace to all,

I am really paranoid about brushing my teeth. If I get up in the morning and I feel that I need to brush I do. Now my friend tells me that if I brush my teeth after Fajr that negates my fasting for the day. What if I am not swallowing anything including rinsing? I don't think God would hold it against me if I wanted to at least have minty fresh breath for the rest of the day so as not to offend anyone.

  • Sun and Moon Orbit???
    J journeyman

I don't know how many times, but I know it occurs more than once, a reference to the sun and moon being in a fixed orbit. Such as 3640 "The Sun cannot overtake the Moon, nor can the night outrun the day each floats in it's own orbit." Is this implying the Sun and Moon orbit the earth which we know today is not the case?
