Aren't you afraid of the intellectual position of this kind of view of God? Why study science if everything occurs only by the will of God? Why accept personal responsibility in life if everything is the will of God? Finally, I thought shirk was assigning an anthropomorphic hand to God? And finally finally, does your view imply that God is evil because we cannot separate evil from God?

well the way i like to think about is is that god/allah gives us the way to finding all these cures for diseases and particle accelerators and theories on how the world started. we couldnt have done it without him.
see if we think about it like 'hes controlling us so whats the point of life' then ya, there would be no point since itd all be predecided. but its like, we have the free will and god lays out the choices, and we're judged on what choice we take.
about the anthropomorphic hand, theres no way we'll ever know until we die i guess.
gods not evil. he does what he does and theres no changing that. its beyond the human mind. i know how illogical that sounds, but eitherway, believing in evolution or god leads to the same conclusion. as humans we're kinda powerless. if u follow science, then theirs a long way to go. we havent even found a cure to cancer, much less be able to control our environment or weather. same with believing in god, we have no choice but to follow the choices a head of us.

okay, im a horrible descriptionist and wasnt able to translate what i think into that. what i wrote above is, i agree, a bit illogical, but my thoughts are hard to put into words.

  • Tattoos Taboo for a Muslim?
    K khad3ja

"I just have one question... would you be able to convince me to have a tattoo? I'm a practical sort of person, and believe in natural beauty. So what do you say?" -i have no idea how u quote people lol

It all depends on how you think, but I can try to inform you.

-Tattoos give you the chance to stand out and broadcast who you are. Most tattoos are picked not just for their design, but also their symbolic meaning. It may relate to what the person believes, showing that they belong to a certain group, or even demonstrating loyalty to a loved one. Many people simply use tattoos as a means for expressing their freedom. (con to this some argue that it is unneccsary and that you can use ur tattoo to have others think yo believe in something and not actually believeing in it. but that could easily be a misconception.)
-----to be honest, thats the only thing i can think of now. but a tatoos not really a need, more of a want. and im young and dont see a point in not fulfilling that want (as long as its not out of bounds with being a muslim, and imo its not). not doing something because your worried about wat others will say to me is idiotic.
-about the natural beauty, ya, people are already beautiful, yet that doesnt stop them from dyign their hait a different color, or getting their ears pierced, or wearing expensive clothing instead of buying cheap ones and donating the reat to charities. its just people indulging int heir whims. this prob doesnt really convince you, but ya. lol

    walaikum asalam

i was just thinking of getting somethings small. i dont want like an animal or anything. just maybe a quote i find meaningful in a pretty design.

my muslim friends are more 'cultural' muslims and go with whats societly accepted and not frowned upon, but i want to determine for myself what is or isnt actually part of the religion, for example, hijabs, which i dont think is as important as i'mams make it out to be.
of course, i have not even read the quran properly yet so i have a long way to go.
tattoos are actually pretty safe, if you get it done at a proper place and look after it as it heals. as for smoking, i think if it is done safely its okay.

    thank you for the links.

    General Issues / Questions

  • Is the Hijab obligatory? In my opinion, no. What do you think?
    K khad3ja

below are the verses from which people say the hijab is obligatory, but no where below does it say it.
--the first one---well, to begin with, its talking about teh children of adam, which includes both MEN and women. negating the way that people apply it to the hijab already. and its talking about covering shame, which can be intrepreted in MANY ways. ex. the literal meaning shame or the privates. but i do not understand how in the world your hair has any shame to it? allah gave it to us. and if men want to lust after us for then THEY should veil their eyes.

----second quote---- it says to dress modestly. MODESTLY does not mean cover your hair, and face, and mouth, and eyes. it even states to cover the bosom and private parts. how did the mullas extend that to the eyes and nose and mouth?? and it says, its fine to leave wats suppose to be out, arms and hair and eyes and nose and mouth ARE suppose to be OUT. as its part out our FACE. how much more natural can it get.

----third quote----it does mention a clock, but i think its rerfering to the cloak of modesty. and modesty just depends on ur definition.

anyways then people continue to say that the prophet muhammad (peace be upon him) stated it in a hadith. well, the prophet also stated NOT to write the hadiths and that everything we needed was in the quran.
yet people disobeyed him there and did in fact write his sayings down. not only that, but they did it from MEMORY more than 200 YEARS after the prophet died from heresay, and we all know how people forget and lie and make things up so we cant even check the authenticitys.
and last, there are so many hadiths saying ridiculous this like "you can beat your wife with a toothbrush" or something so retarded like that.
while im on the topic let me just say, the quran does say the word "beat" when talking about how to dela with a wife, but it does not mean hit her, it means beat her, as in LEAVE HER. ex. wen someones annoying u and u say okay beat it. as in okay leave. GET IT? why would allah want us to harm someone? he wouldnt and doesnt.
anways back to hadiths, some of them we can tell using common sense make no sense and some of them do preach being nice and stuff, but how are we going to accept only the "good" hadiths and pretend like the bad ones arent there
thats why i think the only thing we need is the quran. forget the hadiths. allah even says that the ONLY thing we need is in the QURAN. anyways thats my opinion.

    what do you think?

    QUOTES

?O you Children of Adam! We have bestowed on you raiment to cover your shame as well as to be an adornment to you. But the raiment of righteousness, that is the best. Such are among the Signs of Allah, that they may receive admonition.? (Quran 726)

?And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what must ordinarily appear therof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands? fathers, their sons, their husbands? sons, their brothers, or their brothers? sons or their sisters? sons, or their women or the servants whom their right hands possess, or male servants free of physical needs, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex, and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments. And O you Believers, turn you all together towards Allah, that you may attain Bliss.? (Quran 2431).

?O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks close round them (when they go abroad). That will be better, so that they may be recognised and not annoyed. Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful.? (Quran 3359

sry about the horrible grammer and spelling. im in a rush, but had to get this out. thanks!

  • Tattoos Taboo for a Muslim?
    K khad3ja

I'm 17 and I want to get a tattoo, however I don't want one if it goes against Islam. However, let me define "going against Islam."

I don't want any opinions or culture to conflict it. I looked up a few things on google and it said that tattoos were agaisnt Islam because of hadiths like this

Abd-Allaah ibn Mas?ood (may Allaah be pleased with him) who said
I heard the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) say ?Allaah has cursed the woman who does tattoos and the one who has them done, the woman who plucks eyebrows (al-naamisah) and the one who has it done (al-mutanammisah), and the one who files her teeth for the purpose of beauty, altering the creation of Allaah.?

    (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 5931; Muslim, 2125)

But I personally do not count hadiths as viable sources due to all the accuracy issues. I follow the Quran and Allah.

Anyways, another argument is that muslims should not 'maim' or distort their body because the way Allah made our bodies is already perfect. And I do agree that it is perfect, but this is a bad reason not to because getting your ears pierced (maiming your body. putting a hole through your ear), or nose pierced, shaving your legs, and even using henna (permanent or not) is changing your appearance. so if all of these are acceptable, why not tattoos?

Simply put, I have not finished reading the Quran yet, but am wondering if the Quran mentions tattoos, specifically, at all.
