I could be wrong but it looks like you are defending the 99% of the Hadith but you are calling this one about the Kaaba stone witchcraft. What if ALL of the hadith were written against the will of Allah and his prophet.

    (1) Ibn Saeed Al-Khudry reported that the messenger of God had said,

?Do not write anything from me EXCEPT QURAN. Anyone who wrote anything other than the Quran shall erase it.?

The following historical incident happened about 30 years after the death of the Prophet Muhammed and shows that the Prophet never canceled his order not to write but the Quran. The hadiths books however contained some fabricated hadiths that are considered by the same Hadiths scholars as very weak, trying to indicate that Muhammed changed his view about writing the hadiths. The readers of the hadith to follow, that happened about 30 years after the death of the Prophet, will conclude by themselves that the Prophet Muhammed never authorized the writing of the hadiths since the time he told his followers not to write but the Quran..

    (2) From Ibn Hanbal;

Zayd Ibn Thabit (The Prophet?s closest revelation writer) visited the Khalifa Mu?aawiyah (more than 30 years after the Prophet?s death), and told him a story about the Prophet. Mu?aawiyah liked the story and ordered someone to write it down. But Zayd said. ? the messenger of God ordered us NEVER to write anything of his hadith,?

    (3) The famous book, ?Ulum Al-Hadith? by Ibn Al-Salah, reports a hadith by Abu Hurayra in which Abu Hurayra said the messenger of God came out to us while we were writing his hadiths and said; ?What are you writing?? We said, ?Hadiths that we hear from you, messenger of God.? He said, ?A book other than the book of God ?!? We said, ?Should we talk about you?? He said, Talk about me, that would be fine, but those who will lie will go to Hell. Abu Hurayra said, we collected what we wrote of Hadiths and burned them in fire.

    (4) In the famous book, ?Taq-yeed Al-Ilm?, Abu Hurayra said, the messenger of God was informed that some people are writing his hadiths. He took to the pulpit of the mosque and said, ?What are these books that I heard you wrote? I am just a human being. Anyone who has any of these writings should bring it here. Abu Hurayra said we collected all these and burned them in fire.

    (5) Ibn Hanbal in his Musnad book, narrates a hadith in which Abdullah Ibn Omar said, ?the messenger of God one day came out to us as if he was going to depart us soon and said, ?When I depart you (die), hold to the book of God, prohibit what it prohibits and accept as halal what it makes halal.?

He never mentioned the Sunna in this hadiths.

    (6) Again, in the book ?Taq-yeed Al-Ilm?, Abu Saeed Al-Khudry said, ? I asked the messenger of God a permission to write his hadiths, but he refused to give me a permission.?

I agree because word of mouth gets all kinds of messed up from one mouth to another and totally unreliable.

So why is it so important to circle around that rock seven time while on Hajj? Why is it a fake. The statement about the Kaaba stone has an author/narrator while so many other Hadith have no narrator mentioned at all.

So my mother in law is upset to figure out I don't follow hadith, she said like most I don't love the Prophet enough and that because of this he will not intercede on judgement. She said since she know I only follow Quran to explain the the following verses. I am still new and having trouble, explaining these verses. Can anyone share some of their knowledge to help point me in a good direction so I may do some more research?

    Thanks guys.

20109 On that day shall no intercession avail except for those for whom permission has been granted by Allah, Most Gracious and whose word is acceptable to him.

    2128
He knows what is before them, and what is behind them, and they offer no intercession Expect for those who are acceptable

    3423
"No intercession can avail in His Presence, except for those for whom He has granted permission.

She states this is where Muhammad is given the permission.

I explained this is not in correct context.. ugh, I am so frustrated! I can't explain it.. She tried to make me feel like I am astray... but the Hadith make me sick to my stomach, I actually feel ill in my heart. However, when I read Qu'ran I find solace in peace and the things that made me feel ill just fade. "maybe Allah just wants you to be astray".. How can this be?? When I am sincerely searching for Him and Him alone. Thanks guys for making me feel apart of something, that I am not insane. I will say my husband is become more in more to listening to my reasoning on things and is agrees with me. We had a great talk this morning. I have him perplexed with 4719 and 482, for now, atlease he is thinking and open. Thanks again guys!

Kaiokenred is correct, the Quran says that there is only one intercessor which is Allah only " Surah 3944 the Quran tells us that it is only Allah who is the intercessor; Say, "All intercession belongs to God." To Him belongs all sovereignty of the heavens and the earth, then to Him you will be returned. (Translated by Khalifa) However the Quran also says the angels will be intercessors not just for Muslims but also beings on the earth. "However in Surah 425 it is the angels who do intercession for all who are in the earth. ?The heavens are almost rent asunder from above them (by Him Glory) and the angels celebrate the Praises of their Lord, and pray for forgiveness for (all) beings on earth Behold! Verily Allah is He, the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful". (Translated by Yusuf Ali)
And according to the Tirmidhi the Kaaba Stone will suddenly aquire a mouth and eyes. "It was narrated that Ibn ?Abbas said The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said concerning the Stone "By Allah, Allah will bring it forth on the Day of Resurrection, and it will have two eyes with which it will see and a tongue with which it will speak, and it will testify in favour of those who touched it in sincerity."

So what we have here is the Quran saysing that there will be no other intercessor except Allah, but at the same time the Quran tells us that the angels will pray for the forgiveness of beings on the earth. On top of that the Tirmidhi (a Hadith) says that the Kaaba Stone wil testify in favor of those who touched the stone with the right heart.
My questions are these"Is there only going to be one intercessor or three at the end of days. Are both scriptures in the Quran correct or is one of them wrong? Is the Hadith quoted above true or is it a falsehood?

    Questions/Comments on the Quran

  • Who made the Kabba???
    M Massorite

no idea if kaaba was previously a temple or not. But I finished reading Aidid Safar's book named 'Mental bondage' lately and the author has proved that Abraham couldn't have made kaaba.

Quran says God never sent any messengers to Arabs before Prophet Muhammad. So could Abraham just go all the way to Makkah, build the kaaba and go back just like that? I mean Abraham would definitely have asked the arabs to help build the house of God. the arabs of makkah must have asked abraham who he was and why was he building the house of God and who told him to do that etc. it's not possible that abraham could have built the kaaba and gone back without telling the arabs that he was a prophet of God. But Quran says the opposite.

So the only logical conclusion is Abraham did not build the kaaba because he never went there.

Aidid Safar has propose a whole new meaning to kaaba. You should read the book if you want to know what kaaba really means.

I know it's hard to digest this, but doesn't it make sense? What do you think?

No one really knows who first built the Kaaba in Mecca but Islamic lore claims that the Kaaba (a box shaped object) was built for the first time by Adam, Than rebuilt by Noah and his family after the flood, and again rebuilt by Abraham after a trek across one of the most if not the deadliest desert in the world with his wife and small child. But there is no way to prove that Noah or Abraham actually had anything to do with the Kaaba much less the pre-flood Adam.
However we do know from recorded history and both old and new archeological finds that the Kaaba and the city of Mecca were a place of pagan worship where there were about 360 idols that were housed inside the Kaaba long before even Jesus was born. Recorded History tells us that a tribe of people whose name was the Jats came from India and settled in several countries now known as Bahrain, Yemen, Syria, and also Saudi Arabia in and around the city of Medina as well as other parts of Arab land. They brought with them a religion known as Vedism or Vedic Brahmanism which was the historical predecessor of Hinduism. They worshiped the elements like fire, rivers, and heroic gods such as Indra who is the King of the gods in the Rig Veda, the early collection of Hindu hymns. They were also astronomers who worshiped the nine known planets of the day and the consolations
King Vikramaditya was a legendary monarch who ruled Ujjain in India who was considered to be a just and benevolent king whose wisdom, valor and magnanimity was well known. Scholars believe that King Vikramaditya conquered Arabia. He lived during that first century and his preachers were very successful in spreading the Vedic Hindu sacred scriptures in Arabia, converting Arabs to Vedic Hinduism and the religions way of life.
The word ?Kaaba, or Kabah, or Caaba? came from the Tamil language which originated sometime around 1700 B.C. In Tamil Nadu there is a temple for the Hindu god Shiva named Kabaalishwaran and the word ?Kabaali" refers to Lord Shiva.
Proofs of these facts are available in what is called the ?Sayar-ul-Okul?. It is one among several volumes of ancient west Asian literature. The Turkish ruler Sultan Salim ordered an anthology to be compiled of ancient Arabic poetry from an earlier work in 1742 A.D. The pages of this volume are made of a kind of silk. According to Arab legend there was a plaque or dish that was hung in the Kaaba with an inscription on it about King Vikramaditya. On page 315 of the Sayar-ul-Okul volume which is in the treasured Makhtab-e-Sulania library in Istanbul Turkey and in the English language here is what the inscription says.

?Fortunate are those who were born (and lived) during King Vikram?s reign. He was a noble, generous dutiful ruler, devoted to the welfare of his subjects. But at that time we Arabs, oblivious of God, were lost in sensual pleasures. Plotting and torture were rampant. The darkness of ignorance had enveloped our country. Like the lamb struggling for her life in the cruel paws of a wolf, we Arabs were caught up in ignorance. The entire country was enveloped in darkness so intense as on a new moon night. But the present dawn and pleasant sunshine of education is the result of favor of the noble King Vikramaditya whose benevolent supervision did not lose sight of us-foreigners as we were. He spread his sacred religion amongst us and sent scholars whose brilliance shone like that of the sun from his country to ours. These scholars and preceptors through whose benevolence we were once again made cognizant of the presence of God, introduced to His sacred existence and put on the road of truth, had come to our country to preach their religion and impart education at King Vikramaditya?s behest?

So by this evidence of recorded history we have proof that King Vikramaditya conquered, lived, ruled in Arabia and educated the people of Arabia in the Vedic religion that was based on the Vedac, which are the Hindu sacred scriptures.
Among the many idols that were housed in the Kaaba were al-Lat, al-Uzza, Allah and Manat who are all mentioned in the Quran in chapter 53 and were goddesses.
The name ?Allah? was not at all revealed to Mohammed by the angel Gabriel because we know from recorded history that the name ?Allah? was used to speak of ?The God? in Arabia in pre-Islamic times. The Muslim word ?Kaaba? is used to speak of the ?House of God? and the pagan god Hubal was considered to be the chief god of all of the gods that were housed in the Kaaba. But he wasn?t thought to be the only god. The pre-Islamic Arabs believed that Allah which was the same God as Hubal which was a Moon god. They also believed that Hubal had associates or companion gods as well as sons and daughters and the three goddesses mentioned above were the daughters of Allah/Hubal. This pre-Islamic ?Allah? was considered to be the provider for the people, the most powerful of all of the gods and the god every Meccan prayed to in times of trouble. This belief in Allah/Hubal was practiced throughout southern Syria and northern Arabia. He was worshiped as a moon god and as another bit of proof Muhammed?s own father?s name had the word ?Allah? in it ?Abd- Allah or Abdallah or Abdullah? which means ?slave or worshiper of God?. Even the Quran verifies that the pagans believed in one god that was higher than the rest. Surah 2961 If indeed you ask them who has created the heavens and the earth and subjected the sun and the moon (to his Law), they will certainly reply, "Allah". How are they then deluded away (from the truth)? (Translated by Yusuf Ali)
The fact of the matter is that even though Muhammed rejected all other gods except the one Allah, Muhammed in an effort to gain more converts compromised his integrity by allowing pagan ritual and practices to continue in the Islamic religion. This is where the crescent moon comes from on the Islamic Flag but that is not the end of it. The hajj for example was a pagan practiced when hundreds or thousands of pagans would come to Mecca on a certain day to worship the deity or god of choice so the Hajj or the annual pilgrimage to Mecca was nothing new to the pre-Islamic Meccans. The ritual of circulating around the Kaaba is yet another ritual that is barrowed from Hinduism and the black stone is no exception. Again it is the Islamic belief that Adam first had the stone on his alter which was lost in the flood, after that it was Abraham who found the black stone and ordered his son Ishmael to build a new temple in which to house the sacred stone which is supposed to be in the Kaaba in Mecca. But again it is virtually impossible to prove this chain of events.
Islamic tradition also believes that in 602 Muhammed played a key part in the rebuilding of the Kaaba. The black stone needed to be temporarily removed from the Kaaba while the new construction was done and a quarrel erupted between the clans in Mecca as to which clan should have the right to re-set the stone back into its place. Muhammed suggested that the clan elders would raise the stone in a cloak and then Muhammed would with his own hands set the stone into its final resting place and there is some ancient art that depicts that event.

Sorry the picture did not transfer.
This art depicts a time when the Kaaba was still a polytheistic shrine before the founding of Islam. So we know that Muhammed was at one time a pagan and the stone is still just as much of a pagan symbol today as it was in pre-Islamic days.

    General Issues / Questions

  • Wha do you think about this verse?
    M Massorite

It looks like most of the replies to this post have made wrong assumptions about what this verses says. The reason why is because it appears that nobody took the time to look up the meaning of the word "vicegerent".
Here is what the word vicegerent means "A person appointed by a ruler or head of state to act as an administrative deputy". In this case the ruler is Allah and he is telling the angels that he is going to (deligate) authority and set up a ruler who will have authority over the whole world.
So then the angels ask Allah "Wilt Thou place therein one who will make mischief therein and shed blood"? while we do celebrate your praises and glorify your holy (name)?" To which Allah answers "I know what you know not."
Making mischief and shedding Blood is the same thing as make war.
So dasically the angels asked a question about what this "Allah appointed leader/deputy" will be like and Allah refused to answer the question by saying " I know what you know not". In other words Allah was saying that he knows what this appointed deputy will be like and what he will be doing but the angels do not know and apperently Allah didn't want to answer their question. Real simple.

Please I beg for your forgiveness Jafar as I am not educated in grammer. Apparently even with a program in place that is supposed to help me correct my grammatic mistakes it is still much less then perfect. What I have already posted and what I will post in the future will be chapters out of a book I have written. As you read them I think you will find that I have done my home work. Everything in the following chapters will be researchable for the purpose of verification of those facts within the chapters.

    The Kaaba
    A Keeper of Gods

Islamic lore claims that the Kaaba (a box shaped object) was built for the first time by Adam, Than rebuilt by Noah and his family after the flood, and again rebuilt by Abraham after a trek across one of the most if not the deadliest desert in the world with his wife and small child. It is also an Islamic belief that the black stone was a gift from God to Adam and Eve that fell from the sky which later became a symbol of God?s covenant with Abraham and his son Ismail. Muslims also believe that the stone was at one time a white stone but turned black by absorbing sins and serves as a symbol of man?s degradation and his need for God?s forgiveness. Also according to Islamic legend a cousin of Muhammed by the name of Ibn? Abbas heard Muhammed say,
?By Allah, Allah will bring it forth on the day of resurrection, and it will have two eyes with which it will see and a tongue with which it will speak, and it will testify in favor of those who touched it in sincerity?.
Just think about it. All of those millions upon millions of Muslims that have kissed or touched a cold, hard, and very much lifeless lump a stone, who believe that this piece of heartless black stone is somehow going to magically come to life with a mouth, a tongue and a set of eyeballs in order to serve as an intercessor on behalf of devout and pious Muslims just because they touched, pointed to or kissed the stone. As if to say there is a need to testify on behalf of all of these millions of Muslims because Allah doesn?t know or will not already know the condition of their hearts on the day of resurrection????? In the Quran Allah is all knowing, all seeing and knower of both the visible and the invisible. So why would all of those millions of pious Muslims need a piece of lifeless black stone to serve as an intercessor who would speak to Allah on their behalf just as Abraham, Moses, and Jesus are supposed to do? And if the black stone will not be speaking to Allah on their behalf then what or who will the stone be speaking to?
For Christians Jesus is their intercessor while they are living but not after their death because Jehovah is all knowing and on the day of resurrection He will have already known what the condition of the hearts were of all of the dead both of Christians and non-Christians on the day that they died. Another Islamic legend says that when the second Caliph (Umar ibn al-Khattab) came to kiss the stone, he said in front of all in attendance ?No doubt, I know that you are a stone and can neither harm anyone nor benefit anyone. Had I not seen Allah?s Messenger kissing you, I would not have kissed you? this statement was narrated by 'Abis bin Rabia and is a Hadith from the Sahih Bukhari, Book 26 Volume 2, Book 26, Number 667.
By his statement Umar must have felt dumb or embarrassed because he was kissing a piece of lifeless stone but it is the ultimate goal of every Muslim man to emulate Mohammed in their life style as much as it is possible for them to do, and so the kissing of the stone began simply because someone saw Muhammed kissing a lifeless, heartless, brainless piece of stone.
Do the Muslims worship the black stone? No they do not but like the Roman church in about 312 A.D. Muhammed allowed pagan ritual to continue to be practiced because the pagans would not listen to him otherwise and just as I tell Christians who practice non-biblical pagan ritual on pagan holy days like Christmas and Easter, I say to the Muslims who practice pagan ritual on pagan holydays. ?One can color a pagan ritual or a holy day any which way they want, and it is still paganism?.

    Torah and the Gospel
    Islamic Beliefs & Quranic Statements
The Quran is considered to be the most holy book of Islam and it is the book we all see being held up at almost any event involving Muslims on the evening news and other programs. It is the duty of every Muslim to memorize the Quran and they spend much time reading, reciting in Arabic, and memorizing the Quran. We know from what is written in the Quran itself that the Torah and the Gospel of Jesus are held in high esteem by Allah. However there are many misunderstandings on both sides of the fence. This well be my attempt to take a deep look at the Quran and the Bible compared. I want to stick only with the Quran in this process but I have now come to understand that much of what Muslims believe is recorded in the several other volumes of books called the Hadith. So I am forced to quote from some of these other books but very little.
First let us now take a look at what Allah says about the integrity of other God given books.

Surah 2136 Say you ?We {Muslims} believe in Allah, and the revelation given to us, and to Abraham. Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob and the tribes, and that given to Moses and Jesus, and that given to {all} prophets from their Lord We make no difference between any of them, and unto him we have surrendered (Translation by Yusuf Ali)
Surah 2136 Say {O Muslims} ?We believe in Allah and that which is revealed to us and that which was revealed to Abraham, and Ishmael, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the tribes, and that which Moses and Jesus received, and that which the prophets received from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and to him we have surrendered.? (Translation by Pickthall)
As we can see by this one verse that is translated two different ways, Allah says that his followers do indeed believe in the Old Testament and the Gospel of Jesus. While we know that the Muslims claim that they only believe in the first five books given to Moses by God, this verse says that Muslims are supposed to believe in that which has been revealed or the revelation that was given also to all of the prophets which includes the Gospel of Jesus. And since the Quran also says that Muhammed was the last prophet then this verse is speaking to us about all of the prophets between Abraham and Jesus.
Surah 2285 ?The Messenger {Muhammed} believes in that which has been revealed to him from his Lord and (so do) believers. Each one believes in Allah and his angels and his scriptures and his messengers ? We make no distinction between any of his messengers ? and they say We hear, and we obey. (Grant us) your forgiveness our Lord. To you is the journeying.? (Translation by Pickthall)
Surah 2285 The Messenger believes in what was sent down to him from his Lord and the believers; each one believes in God and his angels, and in his books and his messengers; we make no division between any one of his messengers. They say ?We hear, and we obey?. Our Lord, grant us your forgiveness; to you is the homecoming. (Translated by Arberry)
As we can see from these verses, Allah is telling us that Muhammed himself believes in the words and books that have been sent down from Allah not only to Muhammed but also to Abraham, Moses and to Jesus. These same statements are also repeated in Surah 4136 and Surah 2946. So if this verse is a mistake or translated wrong then the mistake was made not once but three times. However one of the beliefs that Muslims hold against the bible is that the bible has been revised over and over to the point of corruption but the Quran has never been revised to that point and even now still says the same things in the same way as it was first written.
But there is a problem with that belief because in the days that the Quran was written neither the old or new testaments had revised like they have been today, so in the light of this fact, why didn?t the Muslims of that day read and study the old and new testaments? Or if Muhammed believed in these books that were sent down from Allah before the Quran then why don?t the followers of Muhammed believe in them?
Surah 4136 Oh you who believe, believe in Allah and his messenger and the book which he has revealed to his messenger and the book which he revealed before. And who ever disbelieves in Allah and his angels and his books and his messengers and the last day, he indeed strays far away (from the way of Allah). (Translated by Maulana Ali) If the Torah and the Gospel of Jesus were already corrupted by the time Allah gave Muhammed these verses to put in the Quran then why didn?t Allah know that they were corrupted? Why did Allah command us to believe in corrupted scriptures? Why did Allah tell us that corrupted scriptures were a guild for all of mankind? Was Allah leading us astray?
Surah 33 It is he who sent down to you (step by step) in truth, the book, confirming what went before it; (the Quran) and he sent down the law (of Moses) and the Gospel (of Jesus) before this, as a guide to mankind, and he sent the criterion (of judgment between right from wrong). (Translated by Yusuf Ali)
Surah 34 Aforetime, for a guidance to mankind; and has revealed the Criterion (of right and wrong). Lo those who disbelieve the revelation of Allah, theirs will be a heavy doom. Allah is mighty, able to requite (the wrong). (Translated by Pickthall)
In these last two verses the word ?criterion? is speaking of a standard or a set of guide lines that are to be used to determine what is right from what is wrong. So these two verses are telling us that Allah sent down to the Hebrews the criterion which is the Old Testament, and to Jesus the Gospel which is the New Testament and to Muhammed the Quran as a guide for all of mankind so that we might read and study and put into practice in our everyday lives these revelations from Allah which tell us what is right and what is wrong. These revelations tells us how we should live our lives and how we should not live our lives and not only does Allah tell Muhammed and all of mankind that these books were sent down to us to help us live a righteous life but Allah also tells Muhammed in the Quran that if he has any doubts about what is in the Quran, Allah commands Muhammed to go to the Hebrews or the Christians and ask them their advice.
Surah 1094 If you are in doubt as to what we (Allah through the angel Gabriel) have revealed to you, then ask those who have been reading the book from before you the truth has indeed come to you from your Lord; so be in no wise of those who doubt. (Translated by Yusuf Ali)
Surah 1094 And if you (Mohammed) are in doubt concerning that which we revealed to you, then question those who read the scriptures before you. Verily the truth from your Lord has come to you. So be not you of the waverers. (Translated by Pickthall)
Please take notice here that this verse says ?Then question those who read the scriptures before you? and ?Verily the truth has come to you? Isn?t it amazing according to Allah that the truth which is the Quran, the Torah, and the Gospel of Jesus has come to Muhammed? This verse is actually telling us that the scriptures that were given to Moses and Jesus were read before Mohammed read the scriptures. Does this verse prove that Muhammed could read? Absolutely it does and there is no question about it either because Moses and Jesus did read the scriptures before Muhammed did. We should remember that this Quran is considered to be the holy book of Islam and this verse is the same verse that was written in the same manner as this revelation was spoken into the ears of Muhammed by Allah through the mouth of the angel Gabriel. Muslims who reject the Torah and the Gospel of Jesus are rejecting that which Allah has called the truth. Is this a mistake? Did Gabriel get the words mixed up? Did Mohammed hear the wrong words? Did Allah make a mistake? No, No, No, and again No! If Gabriel got the words mixed up and those words made it into the book (Quran) of Allah then that would make Allah impudent. Because Allah was not able to control what Muhammed wrote or a scribe might have wrote after Muhammed recited those words to the scribe to be written down in the book of Allah nor was Allah aware of the fact that the previous scriptures were corrupted. Or could it be that the Gospel of Jesus and the Old Testament are not corrupted and Allah knew that they were not corrupted?
With these verses quoted from the Quran one would think that the Muslims would be even in this day and time reading and studying from the whole of the Torah/Pentateuch and all of the other books that were written by all of the other prophets which are recorded in the Old Testament and the whole of the Gospel of Jesus is which all of the New Testament. There should be no question about whether or not these scriptures were available to Muhammed or not. Because Allah through the angel Gabriel told Muhammed to ask the people who read or are reading them (the words read and reading are speaking of the present tense) for conformation and advice about what the Quran is telling him and since Muhammed was commanded to ask the Hebrews and the Christians for advise or understanding or conformation of the Quran then all Muslims should be doing the same thing.
The problem in this day and time is that the Muslims because of their beliefs are killing both Jews and Christians as often as they are killing their own and all one needs to do is to watch the news and you will see that the Muslims are killing Muslims and Jews and Christians or anyone considered to be an infidel around the world in all sorts of horrible ways. They are killing those of their own blood and religious beliefs in the name of Allah. And claiming that it is Jihad or holy war so what has happened? What causes men, women and young boys to blow themselves and other men, women, children, babies, the old and the infirm to pieces? For this answer I think that we should take a good hard look at the differences between what the Hebrew Old Testament, the Gospel of Jesus and Quran say about some of the same subjects. I am also going to be using some passages from the Hadith?s not because they are the words of Allah but because they have many of the sayings that those who would commit suicide depend on to justify the killing of innocents in the name of Allah.
Muslims believe that Mohammed was the last of all of the prophets to be sent to all of mankind with a message from God/Allah.
The Islamic Religion believes that Mohammed was the last prophet in a line of prophets that dates back before the flood and the main source of this belief is in the Quran.
Surah 3340 Mohammad was not a father (to) anyone from your men, and but God?s messenger, and the prophets end/conclusion/final, and God was/is with everything knowledgeable. (A Literal Interpretation0
Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but the messenger of Allah and the last of the Prophets; and Allah is cognizant of all things. (Translated by Shakir)
Mohammad is not the father of any of man among you, he was a messenger of God and the final prophet. God is fully aware of all things. (Translated by Khalifa)
Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, he is the messenger of Allah and the seal of the prophets. Allah has the knowledge of all things. (Translated by Malik)

This verse in the Quran is the greatest reason Muslims believe that Muhammad was the very last of the prophets sent down to mankind to speak the words of Allah. For this reason Muslims believe that all other prophets and all other revelations from Allah to those previous prophets are trumped or overridden or completed by the revelations (the Quran) given to Muhammad. The words ?Muhammad is not a father to any of your men? is interpreted as meaning that no other prophet will be born after him in the ministry of Prophethood. However Islam believes that the mantle or work of spreading and confirming the word of Allah was handed over to the Caliphs and later to the Imams.
The phrase ?Seal of the Prophet? is used to speak of the sealing up of the sum of all of the communicated revelations from Allah that have been sent down to all of mankind which includes both the old and new testaments thereby rendering them somewhat obsolete. Islam also uses New Testament scripture to testify and to justify the concept that Muhammad was the last of the prophets who were to spread the word of God.
John 1426 ?But the comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all thing to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said to you.?
Islam teaches that only the prophet of Islam could have fulfilled this prophecy and believe that Muhammad was truly sent in his (Allah) name because he bore testimony to his truth. But the Scholars of Islam have failed to examine the scriptures that prove that the Holy Spirit/Comforter did come to us after the death of Jesus but 600 years before Muhammad was born which shows us that Islamic Scholars have interpreted the other book which Allah has given to them wrongly. The problem I see here again is that if Allah didn?t want his followers to read and study the Torah and the Gospel of Jesus then why didn?t Allah tell them not to do so? If Allah considers the Torah and the Gospel of Jesus to be obsolete and no longer a viable or usable group of revelations then why does Allah tell us that the Torah and the Injeel and the Quran are all the same and equal in value to all of mankind.
Surah 2136 ?Say you "We believe in Allah, and the revelation given to us, and to Abraham, Ismail, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and that given to Moses and Jesus, and that given to (all) prophets from their Lord We make no difference between one and another of them And we bow to Allah (in Islam)." (Translated by Yusuf Ali)
Surah 2285 ?The messenger believeth in that which has been revealed unto him from his Lord and (so do) believers. Each one believeth in Allah and His angels and His Scriptures and His messengers - We make no distinction between any of His messengers - and they say We hear, and we obey. (Grant us) Your forgiveness, our Lord, Unto You is the journeying.? (Translated by Pickthall)
Surah 384 ?Say, We believe in God, and in what was sent down to us, and in what was sent down to Abraham, Ismail, Isaac, Jacob, and the Patriarchs, and in what was given to Moses, Jesus, and the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction among any of them. To Him alone we are submitters." (Translated by Khalifa)
It looks to me that according to these verses Allah considers all of the revelations/books given to all of these people/prophets mentioned in these above verses to be equally important equally respected and equally valuable in the eyes of Allah.
So why is it that Muslims disrespect Allah by believing that the Scriptures and revelations that were given to Abraham, Moses and Jesus are no longer needed or useless. Why is it that Muslims consider that which is worthy in the eyes of Allah as if it were not a worthy enough to read and study. Wouldn?t that be a slap in the face of Allah to throw down what Allah has given?
As a general practice and a good research habit we should never take any scripture at face value without first finding some scriptural confirmation that tells you that you are in fact interpreting a verse just as God intended for it to be understood.
    Book of Acts Ch.21-22
{21} And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
{22} And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
{23} And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
{24} And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
{25} And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
{26} Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.
{27} And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?
{28} And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?
{29} Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,
{210}Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,
{211} Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.
{212} And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What means this?
{213} Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.
{214} But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, You men of Judaea, and all that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and listen to my words
{215} For these are not drunken, as you suppose, seeing it is the third hour of the day.
    {216} But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
{217} ? whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved]?.
{222} You men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know
The day of Pentecost which is the day spoken of here in these verses is the day when the Comforter came here to every man, woman, and child, who would ask the Comforter to fill their hearts. The Comforter was never commanded by God to come to earth for just one single man. The Comforter is the Holy Spirit of God and it is that Comforter/Holy Spirit that comforts us in any time of trouble, it gives us a peace that surpasses our understanding.
The Comforter did not reprove the world of sin, untruth and injustice because if he had the world would have reproved its self and stopped all of the sin, untruth and injustice. Does God want the whole world to hear the words of his Holy Spirit and turn from that sinful nature that is within all of us? Yes and there is no question about it. But we have the choice to choose whether or not we want to open up our hearts and minds to the things of God or not and being able to choose is in itself a gift from God.
The Comforter does not guide the world into all truth, only those who would submit themselves to God and ask that the Holy Spirit/Comforter come into and change their heart to that same kind of heart that Jesus had.
There is no such a thing written in the Gospel of Jesus about any future book that was to be written or given or to contain the words of God or of humans except that word from God that was given to Jesus and his Apostles from God through the Holy Spirit which today is what we know as the Gospel of Jesus.
The Comforter was already foretelling of things that were to come 600 years before the birth of Muhammad. The Comforter prophesied/foretold of the future through the Apostle?s Paul, John, Peter, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and Jude. Any Muslim who wishes to know just what the Spirit of God has already uttered about our future through the above mentioned Apostles should read and study their books. Then you will receive wisdom from on High.
Islamic Scholars teach that Jesus did not come to change the law that was already given to Moses and that is a true fact. But what is not a true fact is that Islamic scholars also teach that it was foretold to Moses that a Prophet would come to change the law that Moses was given and they use Deuteronomy 1815-19 to re-enforce that concept.
{1815} The Lord your God will raise up unto you a Prophet from the midst of you, of your brethren, like unto me; unto him you shall hearken; (A Jew not an Arab or an Egyptian)
{1816} According to all that you desire of the Lord your God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of the Lord my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not.
{1817} And the Lord said unto me, They have well which they have spoken.
{1818} I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto you, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.
{1819} And it shall come to pass, whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require of him.
These prophetic scriptures cannot be speaking about both Jesus and Muhammed at the same time even though they both had the same characteristics as is described in these verses. So which one came along first and fulfilled the prophetic scriptures? Jesus did!
There is here another mistake that is made by Islamic Scholars because in verse 15 the words ?The LORD your God will raise up unto you a Prophet from the midst of you, of your brethren, like unto me (as in Moses); unto him you shall listen;?
Moses was a Hebrew and not at all an Arab from Arabia and in the verse when God is telling his people (the Jews) through the mouth of Moses who was a Jew, that he is going to raise up a prophet from among the Jews, God is talking about a prophet that will come from a Jewish bloodline and not an Arab bloodline. If this verse were speaking about Muhammed it would be speaking to Arabs from Arabia but this verse does not speak about Arabs from Arabia. Those were Jews who traveled in the desert for forty years as a result of their disobedience or doubt of God not Arabs and the prophecy was given to a Jew, not an Arab.
In verse 18 we are told once again that a prophet would be raised up from the Israelite people and even adds the words ?like unto you? which is even more of a confirmation that these verses are not talking about an Arab Muhammad as the prophet who should come, but are instead talking about a Jewish prophet and the only prophet of God who was a prophet within the bloodlines of the Israelite people that fit the prophetic discription is Jesus. Not only was Jesus of the bloodline of Moses and the Jews, his blood line can be traced in the Hebrew Old Testament all the way back to Adam but there is no record of the blood line of Muhammed in the Quran.
Another misinterpretation that Islamic Scholars teach is that Jesus did not come to change the laws revealed to Moses by God but that Muhammad was sent as a prophet to change the laws given to Moses by God. This is yet another area of reasoning that Islam applies to the ?Seal of the Prophet?. This reasoning is to say that Muhammad was the last to set down in writing the laws, rights, rituals, regulations, and of a philosophy on how we should live our lives. Hence the laws set forth by the God of Abraham to Moses and to Jesus have now been replaced by the laws set forth or given to Muhammad to set down in writing for all of mankind, Thereby sealing up the sum of all of the laws into those which are now set forth in the Quran. In other words a ?New Set of Laws? has come to us, given to us by the law giver who was Allah through Muhammed. But wouldn?t that be the opposite of what the Allah has already said? Didn?t we just read scriptures from the Quran that tell us that all of the revelations/books given to all of the prophets including Moses and Jesus from Allah are of the same value in the eyes of Allah? This whole idea of the meaning of the seal of the Prophets is the Doctrine of Islamic Scholars but not the doctrine of Allah according to statements made in the Quran.
    Matthew 517-18
{517} Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.
{518} For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
This is the verse that Islamic Scholars have used to justify the idea that Muhammad was sent to replace the law with another law that transcends all other laws that have been given in the past 6000 years or so to all other prophets and Apostles of God. But once again Islamic Scholars have neglected to perform or to us proper research methods in an effort to keep from making such colossal mistakes like this one.
They have picked and chosen those scriptures which suit their needs rather than reveal the truth as it is written in the words of God. But the answer is right in front of their faces, even within the very scriptures they us to say that because Jesus didn?t replace the laws, that Muhammed did. Verse 17 says it all. The law didn?t need to be changed because they were God given laws. They were perfect laws given to mankind who at the time of the giving of those laws could only comprehend and put into practice the concept of those laws at the time they were given. But God saw that mankind had moved forward enough to fulfill those laws by adding to them thereby making them even more perfect. Here is what I am talking about. In the Old Testament the basic laws had everything to do with the outward action of a sin but when Jesus fulfilled the laws, and the Comforter came the laws of God were written into the hearts of those who would submit and except them. Hence not only did the law have everything to do with the outward action of a sin, the law that was written within the hearts of men had everything to do with the very thought of a sin. Better put, in the Old Testament it was against the laws of God to steal from someone. But when Jesus fulfilled the laws of God not only is it considered a sin to steal from someone it is also considered a sin to even think about stealing from someone. Because just thinking about stealing from someone is now considered a sin in the eyes of God even if you did actually steal anything.
    Matthew 521
{521} You have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shall not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment
{522} But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be
in danger of the judgment and whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause, shall be in danger of the judgment but whosoever shall say, You fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
    {523} Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has ought against you;
{524} Leave there your gift before the altar, and go your way; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.
{525} Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer, and you be cast into prison.
{526} Verily I say unto you, You shall by no means come out here, till you have paid the uttermost farthing.
{527} You have heard that it was said by them of old time, You shall not commit adultery
{528} But I say unto you, That whosoever looks on a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart.
{529} And if your right eye offend you, pluck it out, and cast from you for it is profitable for you that one of your members should perish, and not your whole body should be cast into hell.
{530} And if your right hand offend you, cut it off, and cast it from you for it is profitable for you that one of your members should perish, and not your whole body should be cast into hell.
{531} It has been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement
{532} But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causes her to commit adultery and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced commit adultery.
{533} Again, you have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, You shall not forswear yourself, but shall perform unto the Lord your oaths
{534} But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God?s throne
{535} Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.
{536} Neither shall you swear by your head, because you can?t make one hair white or black.
These verses tell us that the laws that have already been given to them of old time have been fulfilled by Jesus to the point of perfection. Can anyone tell me why such laws as these need to be changed?
If any Muslim who reads these verses disbelieves what they are saying, I do hereby challenge you to see for yourself if these verses are in fact written in the word of God that was given to Jesus, and according to Allah this written word was given to Jesus by Allah. Don?t make assumptions because your life after death depends on the decisions you make or do not make while you are on this earth. Don?t assume that your Imam is divinely correct because he could be led astray by false beliefs just like any other man. There is more written in the Bible that Islamic Scholars claim are speaking of the advent of the last prophet (Muhammed) which are associated with passages in the Quran but there is no need to cover them because I have already shown by using the very same books that Allah has confirmed in the Quran as being divine revelation from Allah who does not distinguish any difference between them and the Quran. They are according to Islam the words of God and they should be taken as the Word of God by all Muslims according to what Allah commanded to be put in the Quran, and the Quran says that all Muslims believe in those words.
One point that Islamic Scholars do not teach their students is this. We are warned against any other Gospel that is preached after the Gospel of Jesus.
    Galatians 17-9
{17} Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
{18} But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
{19} As we said before, so say I now again, If any preach any other gospel unto you than that you have received, let him be accursed
The Quran says in Surah 1064 and 634 that there is no changing of the words of Allah which means that the words of Allah that have been given which are in both the Old and New Testaments and the Quran are preserved by Allah and that no man can ever corrupt the words of these divine revelations/books from Allah. There is no place in the Quran where it is said that any of the revelations that have been put to paper have been corrupted in the written word itself. The Quran only speaks of how the context or interpretations of the written word has been corrupted but not the documented words themselves. In other words, the scriptures themselves have never been corrupted but how they are interpreted has been corrupted. However these verses above from the book of Galatians (17-9) tell us that if any man or even an angel comes preaching any other Gospel that we have never heard of or have ever excepted, that man or angel are accursed. So when we are told not to follow any other prophet or Gospel or laws/revelations after the Gospel of Jesus that means that Muhammed was not supposed to except those revelations from the angel Gabriel. These words speak for themselves and there is no corruption here. They are what they are. Who do we believe? What path do we follow? Since the Gospel of Jesus was the last Gospel before Muhammad and Muhammad came after Jesus preaching yet another book of revelations and another Gospel from Allah and claiming to be an Apostle and the last Prophet of Allah???? If we follow the Gospel of Jesus then the Quran should not be followed. If we follow the Quran then the Gospel of Jesus has been made worthless by Islamic Doctrine and Allah would not be preserving that which is worthless. But he says that he is preserving the Gospel of Jesus which means that if Allah considers the Gospel of Jesus to be valuable enough to preserve, then the Gospel of Jesus should be worthy of reading and being studied by all Muslims. Allah knows what the Hebrew book says because he says that the words of the Hebrew words which Moses wrote are Allah?s words and he knows what is written in the Gospel of Jesus. Muhammad knew what is written in the Hebrew book and the Gospel of Jesus because Muhammad learned what was written in those books of old from Jews and Christians. So why shouldn?t all Muslims know what is written in those books of old? Shouldn?t all Muslims want a better understanding of Christianity or Judaism? A better understanding of what the all knowing God, Allah who is full of wisdom gave to other people?

We believe that Jesus and Moses were given revelations and we must believe in that as Muslims. However our belief is that the Qur?an is the final revelation that encompasses all the good that was in the previous scriptures, so most Muslims don?t study anything except the
Qur?an and hadith, which are the sayings of Prophet Muhammad.

    Warm regards, Imam Zia
    Thank You Imam Zia.

I am blessed that Imam Zia answered my question with honesty but here again the problem is that Muslims are to believe in that which they know nothing about at all. How could a Muslim now that any of the Torah or the Gospel of Jesus are good revelations from Allah unless they read and or study them? Because I can tell you that I have read all three books and there are great differences between them as far as Doctrine goes. And how can any Muslim believe that any scripture is corrupted without first looking to see if the scriptures are in fact corrupted?

    Questions/Comments on the Quran

    The Illiterate Prophet of Allah
    Or was he really Literate

According to my research the Arabic script is derived from Semitic alphabetical scripts which is one of the first alphabetical scripts non to man and was developed around 1700 B.C. in Israel and Syria. The script had 22 consonant characters. The Hebrew, the Phoenician and the Arabic scripts were all based on the more ancient Semitic script and the North Arabic script which is the script of the Quran is related to the Nabatian script and the Aramaic script. The Aramaic language of Jesus and most of his apostles also dates back to 2000 B.C.
When Muhammad first began to take his wife into his confidence about the visions and communications he was having she took him to Waraqah ibn Nawfal who was her cousin. Waraqah ibn Nawfal was an Ebionites priest who was living in Mecca and is still considered by Muslims to have been a very pious and knowledgeable person so we know that he had intimate knowledge about the old and new testaments and according to Islamic tradition, as soon as the priest set eyes on Muhammad, he saw that Muhammad was to be a prophet. Unfortunately for Mohammed his view of Jesus was distorted.
The Ebionites were a Jewish-Christian sect whose doctrinal beliefs were Gnostic in nature. They believed that the Mosaic laws should still be followed to the letter; they regarded Jesus as a prophet but not the son of God and considered Paul and his gospels to be heretical. They also believed in engaging in excessive ritual bathing, vegetarianism and celebrated a commemorative meal annually with unleavened bread and water only in opposition to the Roman churches ritual of the Eucharist. The belief that Jesus didn?t really die on the cross has been a Gnostic belief since the days when Paul preached against Gnosticism.
The belief that Jesus didn?t die on the cross comes from Gnosticism which is and was a religious and philosophical movement that started sometime during the first and second centuries. It was based on a so called ?secret knowledge? of God and his nature which became very popular in the Roman world during the second and third centuries. It was a movement that contained both Christian and pagan elements and was prominent in places like Syria and Egypt and this is how Muhammad came to believe that Christ did not die on the cross. Because this is what Muhammed was taught by those who came into his life before he began to have the visions. Manuscripts such as the Gospel of Thomas and the Gospel of Mary play down the importance of the sacrifice that Jesus made for us. The First Apocalypse of James where Jesus is quoted as saying ?Never have I suffered in any way, nor have I been distressed. And this people (the Jews) have done me no harm.? and in the Second Treatise of the Great Seth where Jesus is quoted as saying ?I did not die in reality, but in appearance. Those in error and blindness saw me; they punished me. It was another, their father, who drank the gall and vinegar; it was not I. They struck me with a reed; it was another, Simon, who bore the cross on his shoulder. I was rejoicing in the height over all and I was laughing at their ignorance. All of these quotes are false and improvable.
The Arabic word ?Ummy? has caused much disagreement among Islamic scholars because some say the word Ummy means (in any language) ?illiterate? and others claim that the more accurate meaning of the word ?Ummy? is ?Gentile?. So let?s take a look at what several different translations of the Quran have translated the word ?Ummy? to mean in several verses.

N.J. Dawood was a graduate of the London University and an Iraqi Statue Scholar in 1945. In 1959 he founded the Arabic Advertising & Publishing Co. He is best known for his translation of the Quran in1959 and his translation has sold over one million copies. Here is a quote from his translation of the Quran.

    The ?Imrans verse 320.
?If they argue with you, say I have submitted to Allah and so have those who follow me.? To those who were given the Scriptures and to the Gentiles say Will you submit to Allah? If they become Muslims they shall be rightly guided; if they pay no heed, then your only duty is to warm them. Allah is watching all his servants?.

Now let?s replace the word ?Gentiles? with the word ?illiterate?.
?If they argue with you say I have submitted to Allah and so have those who follow me.? To those who were given the Scriptures and to the illiterate say; Will you submit to Allah? If they become Muslims they shall be rightly guided; if they pay no heed, then your only duty is to warn them. Allah is watching all of his servants.

The word ?illiterate? means uneducated, uninformed, ignorant, untaught, and unacquainted and has nothing at all to do with reading and writing what so ever. All who were not Jewish i.e. ?the people who were given the Scriptures? or Muslims were considered by both the Jew and the Muslim to be and were called ?Gentiles? because they were unacquainted with or uneducated in the way of Allah. This ignorance has nothing at all to do with being able to or unable to read and write and has everything to do with the fact that they have never heard of the way of Allah vie the Quran, recited or read from Muhammad or any other Muslim. This is why Allah says ?if they pay no heed, then your only duty is to warn them? which means that ?after they (the gentiles) have become learned, educated in or told or heard of the way of Allah and the gentiles still refused to submit to the way of Allah, then the duty of the Muslim to convert the gentile has ended and a warning is all that is left to tell the gentiles.
Muhammed Habib Shakir was born in 1866 and died in 1939 in Cairo. During his life time he held the positions of Sudan?s Supreme Judge for four years, Dean of Alexandria?s Scholars, Al-Azhar University in Cairo Egypt Secretary General, Al-Azhar University Corps of High Scholars, and a member of the Al-Azhar legislative Society.
Here is what his version of the Quran says in 320.
?But if they dispute with you, say I have submitted myself entirely to Allah and (so) everyone who follows me; and say to those who have been given the Book {Hebrew and Christian testament} and the unlearned people Do you submit yourselves? So if they submit then indeed follow the right way; and if they turn back, then upon you is only the delivery of the message and Allah sees the servants.
Again there is nothing at all in this verse that says anything about anybody who is not able to write or read and the word ?unlearned? is used to speak of those who are not or have not been informed about the way of Allah and the word of Allah.
The Noble Quran in the English Language which is printed by the King Fahd complex for the printing of the Quran. Was translated by Dr. Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din Al-Hilali who was formerly Professor of Islamic Faith and Teachings at Islamic University, Al-Madeinah Al- Munawwarah and his co- translator was Dr.Mohammed Mushin Khan who was formerly the Director of University Hospital at Islamic Uiniversity in Al-Madeinah Al- Munawwarah and here is how he translated this verse.
?So they dispute with you {Muhammad} say ?I have submitted myself to Allah {in Islam}, and {so have} those who follow me.? And say to those who were given the Scriptures {the Hebrew and Christian bibles} and those who are illiterate {Arab pagans} ?Do you {also} submit yourselves {to Allah in Islam}? If they do, they are rightly guided; but if they turn away, your duty is only to convey the Message; and Allah is All-Seer of {his} slaves?
In this verse do we see anything at all that is telling us that anybody is un-able to read or write? No!
What we see is that the word ?illiterate? is being used to tell us that those who are unfamiliar with or do not have knowledge of the message being spoken by Muhammad or his followers and nothing else, in which case this particular translator of this Quran has chosen to put in parenthesis on the words ?Arab pagans? to clarify what he means by the word ?illiterate? This does not mean that the Arab pagans who were living in those days were uneducated or unable to read and write. It means that the pagan Arabs were worshiping pagan idols and were not learned in the way of Allah. Otherwise why are the Hebrew and Christian scriptures spoken of? They are spoken of because this verse is talking about the religions and the scriptures of the Hebrews and the Christians as being the same as that of the way of Allah and have nothing to do with people who are not educated in the since that they have never learned how to read and write. However there is another Quran that has been translated by Marmaduke Pickthall. He was born in 1875 and became an educated Islamic Schalor who traveled to many eastern countries as an adult gaining a reputation as a Middle Eastern scholar along the way. Declaring his belief in Islam, Pickthall studied the Orient and published several articles and novels on the subject of e.g. The Meaning of the Glorious Quran. His translation of the Quran was authorized by the Al-Azhar University and is considered to be a great literary achievement.
His translation of Surah 320 brings in confusion when the other translated verses are lined up and compared to Pickthall,s translation. ?And if they argue with thee, (O Muhammad), say I have surrendered my purpose to Allah and (so have) those who follow me. And say unto those who have received the Scriptures {the Hebrew and Christian scriptures} and those who read not Have ye (too) surrendered??
If they surrender, then truly they are rightly guided, and if they turn away, then it is your duty only to convey the message (to them) Allah is Seer of (his) bondmen.
This verse brings a number of questions to my mind here. First of all are the words ?those who read not? speaking of pagan Arabs as if they cannot read or write or are they speaking aboutr those who read not the Quran. So what about the Christians or the Jews, is this verse saying that the Jews and Christians are more literate or educated then the Arabs who are pagans? The very people who were the tribe and family of Muhammad? Is this what the Angel Gabriel told Muhammad to write in the Quran? Is this verse talking about the Quraysh along with all of the other Meccans and all of the merchants in Arabia? If Allah is all knowing then why doesn?t he know that just because an Arab is a worshiper of pagan gods it doesn?t mean that he/she cannot read or write? If Allah is all-knowing, of all things and knew that there were many pagan worshipers that were in fact educated in the art of reading and writing then why didn?t Allah inform the angel Gabriel so Gabriel wouldn?t inform Muhammad wrongly?
The fact of the matter is that this verse in this Quranic translation does not line up with the other three translated Qurans that I have quoted from. The very fact of the matter is that this verse by using the words ?those who read not? has been set wide open to all of these questions which puts the whole of this entire translation of this Quran very questionable. If one verse in this Quran is confusing there are other verses that would be equally confusing which destroys the integrity, the reliability and brings doubt to this translation of the Quran.
There are other translators of the Quran such as S.A la Maududi who translated the Quran in Arabic and Muhammad Akbar who did the English rendering who in verse 320 used the words ?Then ask those who possess the Book and those who do not?. An Englishman named John Medows Rodwell (1808?1900) was a Non-Muslim Islamic scholar and he used the words ?common folks? and so did A. J. Arberry from Portsmouth New Hampshire. Born on May 12 1908 and died in October 2 1969 in Cambridge Massachusetts who was a respected and prolific scholar of Arabic, Persian and Islamic studies.
Yousuf Ali translated Surah 320 this way ?So if they dispute with you, say "I have submitted my whole self to Allah and so have those who follow me." And say to the People of the Book and to those who are unlearned "Do you (also) submit yourselves?" if they do, they are in right guidance, but if they turn back, Thy duty is to convey the Message; and in Allah?s sight are (all) His servants. Also using the word ?unlearned?.
This next Quran is translated and annotated by Edip Yuksel, Layth Saleh al-Shaiban, Martha Schulte-Nafeh
??If they debate with you, then say. ?I have peacefully surrendered Myself to God, as well as those who follow me.? In addition, say to those who were given the Book and the Gentiles Have you peacefully surrendered? If they have surrendered then they are guided; but if they turn away, then you are only to deliver. God is watcher over the servants?.
This translation comes from Rashad Khalifa. Surah 320 If they argue with you, then say, "I have simply submitted myself to God; I and those who follow me." You shall proclaim to those who received the scripture, as well as those who did not, "Would you submit?" If they submit, then they have been guided, but if they turn away, your sole mission is to deliver this message. God is Seer of all people. Of all of these translations not one is the same.
Now for clarity let us look at another verse in the Quran that is translated from a different source and speaks directly about Muhammed describing his education.
    The Heights Surah 7158
?Say {O Muhammed) O mankind! Verily, I am sent to you all as the Messenger of Allah to who belongs the dominion of the Heavens and the earth. La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshiped but he) It is he who gives life and causes death. So believe in Allah and his Messenger (Muhammed) the prophet who can neither read or write, who believes in Allah and his words (this Quran), the Taurat {the Jewish Torah}and the Injeel {the Gospel of Jesus}and also Allah?s word. Be ? and he was, i.e. Isa (Jesus) son of Maryam (Mary), and follow him so that you may be guided?. (Translated by Dr. Muhammed Taqi-ud-Din Al-Hilali and Dr.Mohammed Mushin Khan) This verse I believe puts Muhammed in a bad or negative light.
So let us look at what some other translators of the Quran do with this verse.
Mr. N. J. Dawood translates the verse like this.
    The Heights 7158
Say ?You people! I am God?s emissary to you all. He has sovereignty over the heavens and the earth. There is no god but him. He ordains life and death. Therefore have faith in God and his apostle, the Unlettered Prophet, who believes in God and his commandments. Follow him so that you may be rightly guided.
In this verse the word ?unlettered? means to be unlearned, uneducated, and or illiterate. But as we all should know. One can be unlettered or uneducated and still be able to write and read. Before the arch angel Gabriel started teaching Muhammed the way of Allah he was uneducated or unlettered in that respect. i.e. the way of Allah.? We also know that Mohammed could never have functioned in a merchant society had he not been able to read or write.
This next translation comes from Marmaduke Pickthall. Surah 7158 Say (O Muhammad) O mankind! Lo! I am the messenger of Allah to you all (the messenger of) Him unto whom belongs the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth. There is no God save Him. He quickens and He gives death. So believe in Allah and His Messenger, the Prophet who can neither read nor write, who believeth in Allah and in his words and follow him that happily you may be led aright.
As we can see here we have three translations of the same verse and all of them are different so which one of them is correct? Is this verse saying that Muhammed was uneducated (unlettered)? We know that two of these verses are telling us that Muhammed could not read or write and in the translation of Al-Hilali and Khan where did the info. about the Injeel and the Torah come from? My point here why did Allah through Muhammad tell Muhammad to read the scriptures in Surah 96 two times and say that Muhammad could not read and write in this verse?

So it seems that what we have here is confusion and in both the Torah and the Gospel the Devil/ Chief Shayatin is called ?The Author of Confusion? because the Word of God is always clearly made manifest in the Scriptures and never confusing unless men have translated the Scriptures in a way that best suits what men wants to believe rather than believing what is actually written the word of God. To put it shortly there is some Quranic corruption in some of the many translations of the Quran. Personally I prefer the oldest English translation of the Bible because I know from my research of several English biblical manuscripts that there are fewer changes in the older King James Version then there in any of the newer bible versions.
Unfortunately the oldest manuscript of the Quran I was able to acquire is perhaps only about 200 years old so those that I have quoted from are all I can go by.
Out of the 17 Qurans that were translated into English that I could find, only two have stated that the Prophet of Allah could not read or write and the rest of these translations are talking about those who are uneducated in the words and way of Allah. Another interesting point is that even if the word ?Ummy? actually means both ?Illiterate? and ?Gentile? at the same time. The word ?Ummy? has nothing to do with whether or not the Prophet of Allah could read or write and everything to do with the fact that the Prophet of Allah was unlearned in the words and way of Allah and the word Ummy can be applied to both interpretations.
Now let us move on to what the Arch Angel Gabriel?s very first words were, that he spoke to Muhammed on the very first visit Gabriel made to Muhammed while he was communing in the cave. A literal translation of verse one of the Arabic Quran into English is worded like this.
Surah 961 ?Read by your Lord?s name who creates?. (A Literal Translation from the Arabic) In verse 2 Gabriel is telling Muhammed that Allah created man from a clot and in verse 3 Gabriel is once again telling Muhammed to ?Read by your Lord the most honored/ generous?.
Both verse one and verse three brings some very significant questions to my mind. If Muhammed was truly uneducated in the art of reading and writing why did the Angel Gabriel command Muhammed to read? Why didn?t Allah tell Gabriel that the man he was sent to talk to could not do what Allah instructed Gabriel to command Muhammed to do? Out of 16 translations by 16 different individuals one used the word ?Proclaim?, 5 used the word ?recite?, and 10 used the word ?read? in this verse. The literal translation uses the word ?read? also. It is abundantly clear that Allah commanded Muhammed through Gabriel, to read to the people that which Allah telling him to write down. So why would Allah command Muhammed to do that which he could not do? In verse 4 the Quran tells us that Allah teaches us by the pen. ? Who teaches by the pen,?
The Quran is the heart and soul of Islam so why didn?t Allah offer to teach Muhammed how to read and write if he was not able to do so? Or better yet, why didn?t Muhammed learn how to do reading and writing in an effort to better fulfill the commanded tasks of Allah. It seems that there is a great deception going on here because there are men like Dr. A. Zahoor and Dr. Z. Haq who are teaching that in the Quran in chapter/Sura 961-5 that Muhammed tells the angel Gabriel that he cannot read. But the words ?I cannot read? are nowhere to be found in any of the verses referred to by Dr. A. Zahoor and Dr. Z. Haq. Here is exactly what they are teaching on an Islamic web site.
?Muhammad (s) was forty when, during his one of many retreats to Mount Hira for meditation during the month of Ramadan, he received the first revelation from the Archangel Jibril (Gabriel). On this first appearance, Gabriel (as) said to Muhammad "Iqraa," meaning Read or Recite. Muhammad replied, "I cannot read," as he had not received any formal education and did not know how to read or write. The Angel Gabriel then embraced him until he reached the limit of his endurance and after releasing said "Iqraa." Muhammad?s answer was the same as before. Gabriel repeated the embrace for the third time, asked him to repeat after him and said
"Recite in the name of your Lord who created! He created man from that which clings. Recite; and thy Lord is most Bountiful, He who has taught by the pen, taught man what he knew not.
These revelations are the first five verses of Surah (chapter) 96 of the Qur?an. Thus it was in the year 610 CE that the revelations from Allah began. So in all of the 17 different translations of the Quran that I am using to do my research not only are the words ?I cannot read? not written in any of the first five verses of any of the 17 translations of Surah 96, there is also nothing written about any kind of embracing that was supposed to have happened between Muhammed and Gabriel. So are these men deceived or are these men ignorant just as they have claimed Muhammed was, or are these two men continuing to propagate a false Islamic doctrinal belief that is pushed by the Islamic Scholars. Proof of these statements can be found at this Islamic web site www.cyberistan.org/islamic/muhammad.html and apparently these revelations about the hugging came from the Hadiths. One would think that if Muhammed truly couldn?t read or write at the time that Allah would have made sure that Gabriel told Muhammed to put the words ?I cannot read? in the Quran instead of letting some obscure man fill in the blanks for the all knowing god who is Allah.
In the bible when God commanded Moses to go to the Pharaoh and speak the words of God to the Pharaoh, Moses told God that he could not speak very eloquent. Did God know ahead of time that Moses had a speech impediment? Yes he did but God didn?t care. He wanted Moses to do what he was commanded to do in spite of his speech problem. However in an effort to help Moses to do what he was commanded to do God appointed Aaron the brother of Moses to be the mouth piece for Moses and speak for Moses.
Here is the Torah?s account of the events and conversation at the burning bush.

    Exodus Chapter
    3 & 4

    1. Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian and he led the flock to the back side of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb.
    2. And the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire, and the bush was not consumed.
    3. And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.
    4. And he said, Draw not near here put off your shoes from off your feet; for the place where on you stand is holy ground.
    5. Moreover he said I am the God of your father, and the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.
    6. And the Lord said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows;
    7. And I am come down to deliver them out of the land of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land into a good land and a large, into a land flowing with milk and honey; into the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.
    8. Now therefore, behold the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them.
    9. Come now therefore, and I will send you unto Pharaoh that you may bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.
    10. And Moses said to God, ?Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?
    11. And he said, certainly I will be with you; and this shall be a token to you, that I have sent you; When you have brought forth the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God upon this mountain.
    12. And Moses said to God, Behold when I come to the children of Israel, and shall say to them, The God of your fathers has sent me to you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? What shall I say to them?
    13. And God said to Moses, ?I am that I am? and he said, This shall you say to the children of Israel, I am has sent me to you.
    14. And God said, moreover to Moses, This shall you say to the children of Israel, The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial to all generations.
    15. Go and gather the elders of Israel together, and say to them, The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob appeared to me, saying I have surely visited you, and seen that which is done to in Egypt
    16. And I have said, I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt to the land of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, to a land flowing with milk and honey.
    17. And they shall listen to your voice and you shall come you and the elders of Israel, to the King of Egypt. And you shall say to him, The Lord God of the Hebrews has met with us and now let us go, we beseech you, three days journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God.
    18. And I am sure that the King of Egypt will not let you go, no not by a mighty hand.
    19. And I will stretch out my hand, and hit Egypt with all my wonders which I will do in the midst thereof and after that he will let you go.
    20. And I will give this people favor in the sight of the Egyptians; and it shall come to pass,
      That when you go you shall not go empty;
    21. But every woman shall borrow of her neighbor, and of her that sojourned in her house, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and you shall put them upon your sons, and upon your daughters and you shall spoil the Egyptians.

    Chapter 4

    1. And Moses answered and said, But behold they will not believe me, nor listen to my voice; for they will say, The Lord has not appeared to you.
    2. A the Lord said to him, what is that in your hand? And he said, A rod.
    3. And he said, Cast it down on the ground, and it became a snake; and Moses fled from before it.
    4. And the Lord said to Moses, put forth your hand, and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand.
    5. That they may believe that the Lord God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.
    6. And the Lord said furthermore to him, put now your hand into your bosom. And he put his hand into his bosom and when he took it out, behold his hand was leprous as snow.
    7. And he said, put your hand into your bosom. And he put his hand into his bosom again; and plucked it out of his bosom, and behold it was turned again as his other flesh.
    8. And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe you, neither listen to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice of the latter sign.
    9. And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe also these two signs, neither listen to your voice, that you shall take of the water of the river, and pour it upon the dry land.
    10. And Moses said to the Lord, O my Lord, O my Lord; I am not eloquent, neither hereto for, nor since you have spoken to your servant; but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.
    11. And the Lord said to him, Who has made man?s mouth? Or who makes the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? Have not I the Lord?
    12. Now therefore go and I will be with your mouth, and teach you what you shall say.
    13. And he said, O my Lord send I pray you, by the hand of him whom you will send.
    14. And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the Levite your brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold he comes forth to meet you; and when he sees you, he will be glad in his heart.
    15. And you shall speak to him, and put words in his mouth and I will be with your mouth, and with his mouth, and I will teach you what you shall do.
    16. And he shall be your spokesman to the people And he shall be, even he shall be to you instead of a mouth, and you shall be to him instead of God.
    17. And you shall take this rod in your hand, wherewith you shall do signs.

    Moses returns to Egypt

    1. And Moses went and returned to Jethro his father-in-law, and said to him, let me go I pray you, and return unto my brethren which are in Egypt, and see whether they be yet still alive. And Jethro said to Moses, go in peace.
    2. And the Lord said to Moses in Median, go and return to Egypt For all the men are dead which sought your life.
    3. And Moses took his wife and sons, and set them upon an ass, and he returned to the land of Egypt; and Moses took the rod of God in his hand.
    4. And the Lord said to Moses, when you go to return to Egypt, see that you do all those wonders before Pharaoh, which I have put in your hand but I will harden his heart, that he shall not let the people go.
    5. And you shall say to Pharaoh, This says the Lord, Israel is my son, even my first born;
    6. And I say to you, ?Let my people go?, that he may serve me and if you refuse to let him go, behold I will kill your son, even your first born.

As we can see from these verses that when God called upon Moses to speak for him to the Israelites and to the Pharaoh, God gave Moses Aaron to speak the words of Moses because of the speech impediment that Moses had. He gave Moses the rod to show the Pharaoh and to show the Israelites the power and majesty of the God of Abraham. He also gave Moses the power to do wonders as a tool to cause the Israelites to believe that Moses was really a Prophet of God who was instructed by God to teach the Israelites the way of God. All of this power and back up was given to Moses on the very same day that God first called upon Moses to do a job for him.
Muhammed didn?t get any help from Allah nor did Allah make any such offer even though according to the Quran and on the same day that Allah first called upon Muhammed to do a job for Allah he was simply told to read or recite and that is all. Muhammed was not given any power to do wonders in an effort to cause the people of Mecca to believe in Allah, to believe in one god only and to stop believing in several false gods. Could it be that the reason that Allah never offered to give Muhammed any help was because Allah knew that Muhammed could indeed read and write and therefore didn?t need any help? According to Islamic tradition Muhammed was never educated in the art of reading or writing his whole life so why didn?t Allah teach him to read? Which is correct the Noble Quran or the Hadiths?
We know from 964 that Allah spoke through Gabriel and told Muhammed that he taught men the art of writing which also meant that Allah had to have taught men how to read what men were taught to write.
Ibn Kathir was born in 1301 in Busra Syria after his studies in 1341 he held a position with an Islamic inquisitorial commission that was formed to determine certain questions of heresy and before his death he held a professorial position at the Great Mosque of Damascus.
He also wrote a commentary on the Quran which linked certain Hadith, or sayings of Mohammed, and sayings of the sahaba to verses of the Quran, in explanations. His commentary is famous all over the Muslim world and among Muslims in the Western world, his commentary is one of the most widely used explanations of the Quran today. Here is a short commentary that Mr. Ibn Kathir wrote about Enoch.
    The Story of Enoch (Idris)
    Ibn Kathir
Allah has praised Enoch, describing him as being a prophet and truthful Mention in the Book (Quran) Idris (Enoch). Verily! He was a man of truth (and) a prophet. We raised him to a high station. (Ch 1956-57 Quran).
Enoch was born and raised in Babylon following the teachings and religion of Prophet Adam (pbuh) and his son Seth (pbuh). Enoch was the 5th generation of the Prophet Adam. He called the people back to his forefathers religion, but only a few listened to him, while the majority turned away.
Prophet Enoch and his followers left Babylon for Egypt. There he carried on his mission, calling people to what is just and fair, teaching them certain prayers and instructing them to fast on certain days and to give a portion of their wealth to the poor. He was the first of the Children of Adam to be given prophet hood after Adam and Seth (peace upon them). It is reported that he was the 1st to invent the basic form of writing. Some of his wise sayings are Happy is he who looks at his own deeds and appoints them as pleaders to his Lord. None can show better gratitude for Allah's favors than he who shares them with others. Do not envy people for what they have as they will only enjoy it for a short while. He who indulges in excess will not benefit from it. The real joy of life is to have wisdom.

According to Islamic lore Enoch was the third prophet of Allah and the first to be taught the art of reading and writing by Allah and according to the book of Enoch {which I have read} who is supposed to be the author of his own book, Enoch was called ?The Scribe of Justice?. But I don?t remember Enoch elevating himself above others by giving himself a divine title. In the book of Enoch that I have read.
The problem with this concept that Enoch was the first to read and write, and who was the first to invent books, is that there is no proof.
Without any real proof secular scholars believe that the first writing developed independently in Egypt, Mesopotamia {Iraq} and Pakistan between 3500 and 3100 B.C. So if Enoch was taught how to read and write by Allah why didn?t the art get carried over to the other side of the great flood by Noah and his family? Why didn?t Allah make sure that the art of reading and writing was continued by Noah and his family and why didn?t Allah re-teach man how to read and write long before 3500 B.C.?
We do know that the book of Enoch did exist at the time of the writing of the New Testament because Jude quoted from the book and according to my research the first known existence of the book of Enoch came from Ethiopia. However since nothing at all is mentioned in the Hebrew or the Christian testaments about Enoch?s ability to read and write it leaves us with no beyond the shadow of a doubt historical proof that he knew how to read or write much less write a whole book. What we do know about the book of Enoch is that it was not a carryover from the flood. The book of Enoch was supposed to have been written by the inspiration of God long after the flood and there is no author that has ever been recorded as a fact. So we have no idea who wrote it and there is even less proof that the Islamic view of Enoch is actually true and could br nothing more then fable.
In Surah 31 27 Allah speaks of what the pen is made of and the ink it uses.
?And where every tree that is in the earth (made into) pens and the sea (to supply the pens with ink), with seven more seas to increase it the words of Allah would not come to an end; surly Allah is Mighty, Wise.? (Translated by Shakir) Here we can see that Allah spoke of pens being made of wood and that ink comes from the sea. Indeed at one time man got his ink from the cuttlefish in the sea. So some form of ink pen was available for Muhammed to write with during his days here on earth?
With the tools God gave Moses to use and the help that God gave Moses, it took Moses only a few weeks to convince both the Egyptians and the Israelites that the God of Moses is the one and only true God, who was in control of all things at all times. God even destroyed the Egyptian army to help Moses reach his God given goals. But after 13 years of failing to get Islam to take a foot hold in Mecca, the followers of Mohammed were suffering great persecution and Mohammed himself was in danger of being assassinated, so and his followers were forced to move to Medina and out of the reach of his would be assassins.
There is no question in my mind that Mohammed could in fact read and write. This is why the very first function the angel Gabriel commanded Mohammed to do was to READ. Mohammed was far to intelligent to have willingly remained un-able to read and write his whole life, and Gabriel knew he could read and write when he first spoke to him in the cave. There is ancient art work that depicts Mohammed preaching and reading from a book.

Sorry but the pictures did not transfer.
    Renaissance painting 15th century

There is even a depiction of Mohammed preaching from a book in the Supreme of United States of America in Washington D.C.

    Questions/Comments on the Quran

  • Muhammad the life and history of a man
    M Massorite

For a few years now I have considered learning about Islam to see what the differences are between the Quran and the Bible. I have wanted to study the life of Muhammad to learn about the man and his calling. But I never had the desire to begin until I was inspired by the God of Abraham to begin my studies and to write a book on what I found. Though I do not claim to be a prophet of God as Muhammad did, I do like Muhammad have a Message from God to Muslims.
Once I got started researching Islam, the life and times of Muhammad, the history of Arabia both before and after the birth of Muhammad and reading the Quran the Spirit of God that is within me started to get more and more excited until nearly all of my spare time was devoted to the tasks mentioned above.
The contents of this book are the result of my efforts and I hope and pray that all who read or rather digest what is written herein will be blessed by what they find. May God be with you with His wisdom.

    Introduction

There are many misconceptions; falsehoods, assumptions, and questions both within and without of the nation of Islam and I for one have many questions about what the Quran says that I would like to have answers for. So I have read and researched the Quran and researched the life of Muhammad in an effort to better understand what more than a billion people believe in. I have focused on the claims and statements of fact made by Muhammad, the relationships he had with the people around him, his life before prophet hood and after his calling, the recorded history of Arabia in pre Islamic and post Islamic times, Muhammad?s conquests and most importantly the word of Allah that was handed down to Muhammad through the Angel Gabriel.
Here you will find explanations that are as detailed as it is possible for as many communications or divine statements as my research reveals to me. There is no way that I could research all that could be researched about the religion of Islam because it would take me a life time to do so. Since I am a half of a centurion+ already you can see that I don?t have a life time left to live. So to shorten things up I will be using only the Quran because it is the single most widely studied book in Islam.
I will also be using and quoting from the Old and New Testaments for their historical, archeological, and philosophical values. You can rest assured when I tell you that I have gone through an enormous amount of information to produce this book and I hope that all who would read this Message will learn from its contents.
My first contact with a Muslim was back in the late seventies or early eighties. It was during the first major Palestinian intifada and I wanted to understand what it was all about so I began to question a Palestinian named Fimme who owned a convenience store in Acworth Georgia and was the first Muslim I ever met. From time to time he would have members of his family working in the store with him who could barely speak English most of the time. One day when I was talking to Fimme about the uprising another Muslim who was working in the store misunderstood what I said and rushed over and told me ?YOU MAKE FUN OF MY GOD I KILL YOU? and he looked like he was ready to do just that. But Femmi elbowed him and told him to go away in a language I could not understand.
Little did I know then that I would ever even consider writing a book on the Quran which that hostile Palestinian Muslim man believed is the word of God.

    Muhammad
The Life and History of a Man

According to Islamic tradition Muhammad was born in 570 A.D. in the city of Mecca which was a center for religion and commerce at the time. In ancient Arabian lore, when Adam and Eve were cast from Paradise they fell to different parts of the earth; Adam landed on a mountain in the island of Serendip which is known today as Sri Lanka. Eve was supposed to have landed in Arabia on the border of the Red Sea and for two hundred years they both wandered aimlessly in the earth until, because of their wretchedness God considered their penitence and allowed them to come together again on Mount Arafat near the present day city of Mecca. Because of the gratefulness that Adam felt he asked God if he could build a shrine in Macoraba/Mecca that was similar to the one he worshipped at in the garden. This is how the Kaaba came to be at the first.
Please keep in mind that this tradition or legend is not spoken of in the Quran and Muslims do not ascribe to this belief but the pagans did and this is important because ancient pagan beliefs of the peoples of Arabia play a role in future events as the pagan masses considered Mecca to be a holy city or place long before Muhammad was born.
Muhammad (the name Muhammad means ?praised one?) lost his father and mother at an early age and was raised by his uncle whose name was Abu-Talib. Early in his life Muhammad was a shepherd boy and an attendant of caravans. Sometime between the ages of nine and twelve Muhammad was attending a caravan and was accompanied by his uncle when the caravan was on its way to Damascus in Syria and passed by a monastery where a monk named Bahire who was a Nestorian Christian lived. The Nestorians were condemned by the Roman church for heresy but I could not find exactly what that heresy was. I know it had something to do with doctrinal beliefs but I was not able to pinpoint what they were or how many. It was on one of these caravan trips to centers of commerce in Syria that Muhammad first came into contact with Jews and Christians and became acquainted with both the old and new testaments of the Hebrew and Christian Testaments. It is believed that Muhammad was taught about the Hebrew and Christian Testaments by Bahire on his many childhood trips to Damascus with his uncle. There is even Islamic art that depicts Bahire the Christian monk paying respect to the young Muhammad and inviting all in the caravan to a feast and the offer was accepted. It is said that Bahira claimed that he saw in Muhammad a calling from God to become a prophet.

Bahira is the old man with the white beard and Muhammad has a checkered robe on.

Muhammad was a Hashemite and was born into the strongest, richest and most powerful tribe in all of Arabia. The Quraysh tribes were traders and very educated in the occupation from which they were able to acquire their great power and wealth. During Mohammed?s early life tribal connections were the most important part of the social structure of the people of Arabia and the Quraysh were the most powerful and influential of the tribes because of their involvement with water rights for pilgrimages and caravans. By the time of Muhammad the Quraysh had become active in commerce and had established alliances or treaties with tribes all over the Arabian Peninsula. These agreements allowed the Quraysh to send their caravans to Yemen and Syria with no fear of being robbed by bandits. The Quraysh had also jockeyed themselves into the position of Power Brokers and Mecca was their center of operations. By the age of twenty five Muhammad was well known for his trading prowess and profit making. His uncle got him a job with a very rich widow named Khadijah. Her father was a merchant and successful business man who had amassed a huge fortune. He died around 585 and Khadijah inherited both her father?s vast wealth and his talents in that she was able to successfully manage and expand her father?s business interests and the family fortune. She was a strong woman who gained notoriety in a man?s world and in those days that was a feat. She was known by two titles. They were ?The Queen of Quraysh ?and ?The pure one? which shows that she was both virtuous and respected among the whole of the Quraysh tribe. In those days men of talent were hired to travel and trade on behalf of or to be an agent of a merchant and after Khadijah hired Muhammad she was so impressed with Muhammad and his performance that she began to become affectionate toward him and asked him to marry her. Fourteen years after their marriage is when Muhammad claimed to feel the calling to be a Prophet of God.
By the age of forty Mohammed were a very successful business man and trader as well as a man of means whose commercial enterprises took him to Yemen, Damascus and several other markets of commerce. We also know that because he traveled to these centers of commerce, Muhammad was privy to or came in contact with the knowledge of all of the latest religions or beliefs including the beliefs of Christians and Jews. He also had contact with Jews and Christians who lived in and around Mecca and was also made aware of all of the newest scientific discoveries, philosophies, and technologies as primitive as they were.
It was also at the age of forty that Mohammed had his first ?marvelous illumination? from God?. Outside of Mecca was Mount Hira and on this mountain there was a cave. For whatever reason Muhammad was attracted to the mountain and so upon finding this cave he would retreat to the cave to pray and commune with God. It was on one of these nights that Muhammad claimed to have received a revelation that changed his life. He believed that he heard a divine voice he thought was the voice of Gabriel the Arch Angel. The record of this vision is recorded in the Quran.
    Surah 961-19

    1. Read In the name of your Lord who creates,
    2. Created man from a clot.
    3. Read And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous,
    4. Who teaches by the pen,
    5. Taught man that which he knew not.
    6. Nay, but verily man is rebellious
    7. That he thinks himself independent!
    8. Lo! Unto thy Lord is the return.
    9. Have you seen him who dissuades?
    10. A slave when he prays?
    11. Have you seen if he (relies) on the guidance (of Allah)
    12. Or enjoin piety?
    13. Have you seen if he denies (Allah's guidance) and is forward?
    14. Is he then unaware that Allah sees?
    15. Nay, but if he cease not. We will seize him by the forelock
    16. The lying, sinful forelock
    17. Then let him call upon his henchmen!
    18. We will call the guards of hell.
    19. Nay! Obey not thou him. But prostrate yourself, and draw near (unto Allah) (Translated by Pickthall)

The ministry of Muhammad started in 612 in the city of Mecca and the progress he made went very slowly and with very few results. There were several warring tribes and clans of tribes in Arabia and they were all pagans who worshiped one god or another. As Muhammad began to preach in the streets of Mecca he would proclaim that he received a calling from God and that he alone had the only divine massage that there was one God and one God only and his name is Allah. If they did not fallow after or receive that which the one God gave him to tell them they would receive punishment in hell. Needless to say that didn?t go over very well in a city full of pagans. At first he was simply ignored until he started attacking their gods saying that they were just pieces of wood or stone and condemning the vices born of paganism. Covetousness, Greed, and Deceitfulness or Injustice to ones neighbor represented moral depravity to Muhammad and were among the many spiritual conditions Muhammad preached against.
By 618 Muhammad had converted enough Meccans to become worrisome to the cities leaders because Mohammed had enough believers to affect the commerce in Mecca and especially on those days when large numbers of pagan believing pilgrims came to Mecca to worship the images of the gods they believed in which were stored in the Kaaba.
Though they wanted to get rid of him by any means they were afraid to harm him because of his uncle, but his followers were another matter. While Muhammad was protected by his family his followers received great persecution so sometime around 615 Muhammad advised some of his followers to flee to Ethiopia where they were taken in by an Ethiopian king who was a Christian. According to Islamic tradition the name of this king was Ashama ibn Abjar who was ruler over the Kingdom of Aksum. The same year as these Muslims left Mecca to escape the persecution and went to Ethiopia the Quraysh sent emissaries to Ethiopia to bring them back to Mecca. But the Christian King not only took them into his country but also protected them by refusing the to hand them over to the Quraysh.
The climate in Mecca continued to get progressively worse for Mohammed and after attempts on his life he thought it wise to gather his followers and immigrate to Medina in 622 A.D. where he was greeted with open arms and protected while he preached his message.
In Medina he began in earnest to create a Muslim community with him at the head and was very successful. When Mohammed immigrated to Medina there were eight large clans of Arabs and three large clans of Jews who lived in and around Medina who had been feuding for many years. Muhammad managed to maneuver himself into a political position very much like that of Moses in the Hebrew bible. Moses was appointed by God to lead his people in the desert and to be judge over all of the differences that the Hebrews had between each other as well as other problems. Like Moses Mohammed was able to convince those warring tribes to trust him enough to lay their grievances down before him. They became convinced that Mohammed was Allah?s representative on earth and he continued to preach his massage but the Jewish population would have nothing of it and openly disputed his claim to prophet-hood. Because of the large Jewish population in Medina an agreement or Constitution was drawn up that among other things afforded protection, rights and duties to the Jewish community and granted powers of war to Muhammad. Not long after he was given war powers Mohammed and his followers began to raid Meccan caravans which were the very life blood of the city. But the raids on many occasions were easily defeated so Muhammad had to change his tactics by attacking caravans and tribal settlements during the Meccan sacred month when large numbers of caravans and pilgrims would come to Mecca for trade and the worship of their gods. This was a taboo and shocked pagans and non-pagans alike. As Mohammed?s power and riches grew from these raids he started using his stolen riches to lore and recruit thieves, murderers, and other criminal types who were more than willing to convert to Islam for the wrong reasons. With his ever growing group of greedy criminals Muhammad started using blackmail, expulsion and assassinations to bring about his nation of Islam. Muhammad then came to believe that the very presents of any Jew in Medina was a threat to his vision so he started what is regarded today as ethnic cleansing and Muhammad went on to wipe out the Jewish tribe of Banu al-Nadir.
He broke the agreement he had with the Jewish population in Medina and killed or expelled them from the city declaring to his followers to ?Kill every Jew who comes into your power?. After that Muhammed and his followers attacked, enslaved the men and raped the women of the Jews of Khayber. All who were left alive including children were sold off to slavers and all properties were divided amongst the raiders. At this point in time Muhammad was also using trickery, treachery, bribery and any other methods he could us in the name of Allah and in the name of Islam to achieve his goal of Islamic dominance.
In the year 630 Muhammad?s enemies attempted to make peace with him and a treaty was signed which Muhammad quickly broke and conquered Mecca. After the conquest the very first thing he did was to destroy all of the images and statues of pagan gods in and around the Kaaba.
Finally Muhammad reached two of his goals conquering Mecca and uniting all of the Arab tribes of central Arabia and by the time of his death in 632 he had his eyes set on conquering the Empire of the Roman church.
The life of Muhammad was extraordinary and my own opinion of him is that Mohammed was a very, no extremely intelligent individual who was full of passion. He could see that the worship of so many gods was counterproductive and detrimental to the whole region. He could see that if all could be united in one religion with only one god that Arabia could become much more then it was. And so he set out to do something about it which would be an almost un-imaginable task for any average person to tackle. Unfortunately like so many leaders of the past Muhammed?s lust for power and riches got the best of him and corrupted his mind and moral values.
There seems to be a grand controversy over whether or not Muhammad was illiterate and I have a very hard time with the belief that he was indeed illiterate.
First of all Muhammed was born into the most powerful, most educated of all of the tribes in Arabia. Their travels in commerce took them to places where they would always be able to learn more about what is going on in the world, the latest technological advances, and new discoveries in medicine, new philosophies and new religions or beliefs.
In both Mecca and Medina there were Christian Romans and well established communities of Jews and Christians as well as other peoples who were educated and had skills in both writing and numbering systems. When Muhammad went to Damascus or Yemen on caravan trips he was exposed to educated people from around the civilized world including Christians and Jews. As it is mentioned earlier it was while on one of those trips to Damascus at the age of nine or twelve that Muhammad was befriended by Bahire the Christian monk. We should remember that as the Roman Empire was shrinking they left Christians behind. There were the Nestorians on the gulf coast, in both Damascus and Yemen there were Syrian Orthodox communities and the smaller groups of Christians were found among the Bedouins of the desert. There were also monasteries that dotted the landscape and it is believed Muhammad was sent to live among the desert Bedouins so he may learn the ways of desert survival. So we know that Muhammad was in fact being educated by his family and learned about Christianity.
We also know that in all of the trading centers there was an alphabetical and numerical system used to do business and the only way to be successful in the profession of commerce was to be able to master the alphabetical and numerical systems not to mention the number of languages one would have to learn at the least a rudimentary amount of one or more languages in order to do business with more than one group or nationality of people with a different language. It is possible that Muhammad had or hired someone to speak and buy or sell for him but that would put Muhammad in the position to be deceived, lied too, and robbed and I find it hard to believe that he would never have made himself as venerable as that.
Long before the life of Muhammad the peoples of Arabia could read and write. When the Hebrews and Christians migrated to Arabia they brought with them an alphabet and a numerical system from both the Greeks and the Romans as well as from the Hebrews and lets not forget about the Europeans. As a result the art of reading and writing was common among Meccans since both Jews and Christians had been living in and around Mecca and Medina for more than 200 years before Mohammed was born. However Mecca was by far more advanced in writing then Medina was.
So as we have seen from recorded historical facts, Muhammad was surrounded from his birth by educated family and peoples, until his death. We know beyond the shadow of a doubt that Khadijeh which was the first wife of Muhammad could read and write because she was a merchant who was known and respected far and wide which means that in order to be a successful merchant one needed to learn how to read and write. We should also consider the odds of a woman like Khadijeh even thinking about asking an uneducated, illiterate man to marry her. She would have been lowering herself and her stature in the community to marry a man who had grown up in a rich, educated family that was part of a rich and educated tribe, who never had the interest or desire to become educated which would have shown a bad light on the person of Muhammad.
