I noticed you mentioned arabic is full of inconsistencies and quoted the nafaqa as an example of spending and also of hypocrisy. However, nafaq means keeping open, hence a hypocrite instead of being on any side, keeps open the possibility to jump to any one side which has the upper hand? Makes sense? Another key question, if arabic is full of inconsistences then how and why would Allah send us a message which we cannot understand? Unless of course you mean the arabic inconsistencies do not affect the quran per se? I am very interested in this and read a number of your thought provoking articles. Like you I have been actively in search of archaeological information of pre-quranic arabia. I came across a couple of interesting links and thought it may be worth discussing it with you and whoever else here who are interested.

These 3 inscriptions were found in madinah/yahtrib saudi arabia and appears to have names of muhammad ,abu bakr and umar. dated to around 4 AH. This then puts muhammad probably in this area as opposed to the lakhamid province?

The article is about authenticity of pre-islamic poetry and them being found on inscriptions in yemen at very early period. Please refer to it and see the arguments laid out, not sure if I can access the article.

P.S. I am very concerned about the implications/assertions of the inconsistencies of the arabic language as it is necessary for us to learn the message of Allah.

Let me say something, Allah Himself has vouched for Muhammad's character. Then what else do we need to know that these hadith stories about prophet muhammad are nothing but gross lies!

Chapter 68
In the name of God, the Almighty, the Merciful.
681 N, the pen, and what they write.
682 You are not, by the blessing of your Lord, crazy.
683 And you will have a reward that will not end.
684 And you are of a high moral character.

Peace Layth, why do you think it refers to people of Lut? Is there any evidence that elephants were associated with the people of Lut? Also, how come this understanding is not reflected in the monotheist translation of the quran?

That is an interesting understanding, cool! I however, find the style of the verses seem to be indicative of an event related to past people as it tells have you seen how we dealt with a certain people of the elephant. Which is why I agree with max q's translation in idea, but I am not sure if he stretched the arabic too far to get his translation and therefore if anyone knows arabic can they verify max q's translation?

I dislike the interpretation about the 60000 troops is because it depends on hearsay. Actual archaeological proofs and quranic verses together makes more sense I think.

Is this rendition accurate according to arabic? If it is, this would be the best understanding and perhaps the monotheist translation should take this translation into consideration. please let me know if the arabic supports this interpretation.

Fa-Ya-Lam = Weak and erroneous judgement or opinion, erring in judgement/insight, to magnify oneself and become like an elephant, showed a morose aspect, elephant, (it) increased, to become fat/big like an elephant, Heavy (or dull) and low, ignoble or mean, keeper/master of the elephant.

Why is elephant chosen as a meaning for fa-ya-lam when there are other meanings? Like people of erroneous judgement for example?

Tay-Ya-Ra = flew, hasten to it, outstripped, become foremost, fled, love, become attached, famous, conceive, scatter/disperse, fortune.

Alif-Ba-Lam = devote oneself to religious exercises, became a devotee, he overcame/resisted/withstood, camels, acquire camels, camels became numerous, skilled in the good management of camels, herd of camels, flocks, a bundle (e.g. of firewood), a company in a state of dispersion.

perhaps could we understand tayr and ababeel differently? I am not sure, but perhaps those with arabic knowledge can explain this.

and other articles, the only mutawattir lafzi (mutawattir by word) type of hadith is

"man kadhiba -alayya muta'ammidan fal-yatabawwa' maq'adahu min al-nar"
("He who intentionally lies concerning something I have said will gain a seat in Hellfire" )

It is noteworthy, that the word "intentionally" in this hadith, is also doubtful as some versions do not include the word "intentionally". Additionally, it is quite an irony that a hadith that strongly (especially if the word intentionally was not there) discourages hadiths, is the only one found by hadith scholars to be of such a strong category of hadith tawatur lafzi.

There are hardly any other hadiths that have been reported by a big group of narrators with the hadith containing almost identical words.

Hope this helps. I must also point out that I am not 100% confident of even this hadith, due to the doubt with the word intentionally, and also because God has promised only to protect the Quran. Besides, the essence of this hadith is found throughout the quran, making this hadith redundant. Peace.

With regrads to the prohibition of intoxicants in the Quran we read the following two premisses

1- God prohibited all 'ithm' (sin) 733

2- In intoxicants there is great 'Ithm' 2219

therefore

3- Intoxicants are prohibited by God.

the white thread of dawn distinguished from black thread we look to the sky,and at night the sky is absolutely dark.I dunt think the moonlight is considered as in the early morning we can sometimes still see the moon.The moonlight is not in the equation.And we must note there are days where there are no moons at all.Sky is black lightless,during the night.And the sun is the measuring device if i am not wrogn...but the moon question was interesting.Peace

also night by definition shud not have sunlight..as God refers to dawn and sunset as 2 ends of the day rather than beginning of night.Also,he made the night dark is in one verse..made the night dark should includ whole night,and any part that is thus lighted cannot by definition be night.Peace.

if you approache salat verses where physical prayer can fit in,then you can get the instruction you are seeking.Arnold yasin's article on salat in the quran alone at www.19.org is a good starting point for those who do not want to fix the quranic meaning to any one word in preference to all other fitting/logical/applicable meanings.Salam.

the salat in the quran indicates both physical salat(contact method) and other times refers to the establishment of the ivine system(society based on quranic values) sometimes it refers to oaths of allegiance too,dependign on context.All fitting meanings should be taken and we should not chain(mahjoor) quranic meanings to one and discard others,as God's wisdom has multiple meanings in many verses and yet they all make sense andfit beautifully.Peace.

there is a verse saying we remove daylight frm the night....however nahar some ppl pointed out can refer to day also..and not daylight..if nahar refers to day...we remove day from it(night) simply can mean we have seperated day and night...the two merging points are the seperation period.MErging day into night and night into day shows overlapping period..but this overlapping period is neither day or night,hence serve as seperation periods to make the transition the way i see it.Salam bros n sis..share and hurl your arguments

Salam zenje...lol..it is cute...when it is sunset..i wish i adopted the view of sunset..rather than night..however my wishes are not impt...i rather be more careful personally so i choose night..but its up to the individual,i do not think God is going to be harsh on u..besides the purpose is abstinence and the start and end times are rough guides..not many ppl really eat till white thread..most eat at night then go to sleep..

You make an important point here.I think we all have missed an impt point,the answer has been right there!If we can eat and drink till the white thread of dawn is distinct from its black thread,meaning throughout the period of darkness right?once the white thread appears,we can no longer eat.Hmmn the 2 reference point shud be consistent right?eaning frm first light to last light?But i am still not sure because of 3637,however is dawn considered day?or issit a period on its own?day begins at sunrise right?and if dawn is a period distinct,should not be the sunset be distinct too?Well at present i am unsure,a comprehensive article as to be written using references of all verseto proof a consistent evaluation of night,because our current understandings have 2 opposing viewpoints,and it must be we are failing to see something,God never contradicts.Salam.
