peace.. and welcome to free minds welcome

I live in Manchester UK. I'm wondering why your wife has threatend to divorce you if you become Muslim? That is very sad. What is she afraid of? I converted to Islam 19 yrs ago. My background is christian baptist. It took my brother many years before he would even speak to me again and then when he did start talking to me again it was just to comment on how wicked and barbaric islam was. I couldn't answer him back very well then as i wasn't familiar wi the quran being a sunni muslim at the time. However a couple of years ago, i was visiting him at his home in the canary islands n one evening while relaxing on the terrace i got the oppertunity to discuss the quran with him. After a couple of hours of answering him calmly from the quran.. he resigned himself that he didn't have an issue with islam from the quran. He said that he could not change his lifestyle and re-adapt to become muslim and he was afraid his wife and children wouldnt understand and be opposed. I haven't given up hope of my brother submitting to GOD alone. Talk to your wife and find out what it is that concerns her. As for do you have a future in islam. I pray and hope you do. If you have read the quran and you recognise that it is the truth then i would encourage you to embrace that. Pray and ask GOD to help your wife to understand and support you GOD willing your wife will have a change of heart . Don't be afraid. Just go with your instinct and what your heart is telling you. You will find people here very supportive and kind.
GOD bless you and guide you

    Peace everyone,

I also don't get the false verse claim. I'd really like to know more about it. Anyone direct me to where i can find out? There doesn't seem anything sus with those verses at all. Claiming that the quran contains false verses doesn't this contradict ALLAH when he says that the quran is divinely protected?

Yeah and welcome Bob... welcome Really enjoyed ur testimony.

  • out of body experience!
    M mouse

    Peace..

I thought I would tell you all about this really ?freaky out of body experience? I had recently. I don't expect there is any real explanation but I wondered if anyone has had a similar experience. I've never been pre-occupied with paranormal issues; in fact I?d say that I?m rather dubious about such matters. Issues that I can not verify clearly by the Quran I tend to leave well alone, however a couple of weeks ago I was having the ??weekend from hell.?? Toothache started early Saturday evening. I wrestled with the pain until 1am then cracked open some paracetamol, Those pain killers never touched the pain and I was awake all night in agony. On the next day I went to seek emergency dental treatment, but I?d missed the opportunity for the emergency service in my own area. I bought some stronger pain killers (co-codamol and some anti inflammatory.) The dental pain I was experiencing was so excruciating that it was leaving me breathless. All I could do was hang onto something solid and concentrate my full efforts upon dealing with the pain. On top of all this also had some family tensions and problems to deal with. At 5pm I went to lay down on my bed feeling depressed, exhausted and very emotionally and physically shattered. I guess I drifted off to sleep and that's when life got really weird. I woke up to see people, ?men? to be exact standing in front of me. I sensed I was in a reclining position. I was confused as to where I was, one half of me considered I wasn?t in my room yet there was no specific landmark to identify I was somewhere else. The man I was observing didn't appear to notice me, he seemed in conversation with another figure, I will never forget the exquisite beauty of that man. I was not in any pain and felt very peaceful and happy just watching this beautiful being. A feature which stood out about his person was his attire, he was wearing wot seemed like a long gown/coat/robe of ' I kid you not' green brocade. After what seemed only minutes I noticed another man stood very close by me. He was not unpleasant to look at, but his face was devoid of all expression. The man was not wearing the green attire of the others. He said one sentence to me '' It's time to go'' Now my mood changed very rapidly from one of peace and happiness to fear and alarm. I really did not want to go with this character yet in my heart I knew that there would be no way for me to refuse him and I got a sense of not being able to call upon my family or any other person to rescue me from the request of this stranger. I didn?t get any sense or feeling of where it was I had to go with him I only felt I really didn?t want to go. Instead I turned away from him and started to pray to Allah to help me. I don't know what happened because the next second I found myself on my bed laid flat on my back, eyes wide open and conscious, but I was not breathing and I couldn?t feel any sense of a heart beat but within seconds there was a huge thud within my body and I had a feeling of being restored to it. I was not in any pain during the whole episode and wots more by 8pm that same evening my dental pain had completely ceased. What Could have happened to me? Temporary insanity or was this some kind of spiritual experience? I?m really shocked more than anything that this happened to me, I?ve considered maybe it was effects of the co coda mol tablets. Messing my mind up. Has anyone ever heard of over the counter pain killers having this kind of side effect? I?m also wondering did I die! but then I thought if the man who told me it was ?time to go? was the Angel of death I would not be here now. I can?t say the experience has traumatised me but I do keep returning to it in my mind and trying to resolve it with some kind of rational explanation. I know that people may suggest I was just dreaming and certainly I would buy that (even though I?ve never had such an extraordinary dream in my life ) except for the fact that I was very much awake and conscious when I felt the jolt in my body. Well I?ll leave it with you. Hopefully someone who reads this may have had a similar experience.

  • Turkey in radical revision of Islamic texts
    M mouse

Does anyone know any more about this?

Turkey is preparing to publish a document that represents a revolutionary reinterpretation of Islam - and a controversial and radical modernisation of the religion.

The country's powerful Department of Religious Affairs has commissioned a team of theologians at Ankara University to carry out a fundamental revision of the Hadith, the second most sacred text in Islam after the Koran.

The Hadith is a collection of thousands of sayings reputed to come from the Prophet Muhammad.

As such, it is the principal guide for Muslims in interpreting the Koran and the source of the vast majority of Islamic law, or Sharia.

But the Turkish state has come to see the Hadith as having an often negative influence on a society it is in a hurry to modernise, and believes it responsible for obscuring the original values of Islam.

It says that a significant number of the sayings were never uttered by Muhammad, and even some that were need now to be reinterpreted.

    'Reformation'

Commentators say the very theology of Islam is being reinterpreted in order to effect a radical renewal of the religion.

Its supporters say the spirit of logic and reason inherent in Islam at its foundation 1,400 years ago are being rediscovered. Some believe it could represent the beginning of a reformation in the religion.

Turkish officials have been reticent about the revision of the Hadith until now, aware of the controversy it is likely to cause among traditionalist Muslims, but they have spoken to the BBC about the project, and their ambitious aims for it.

The forensic examination of the Hadiths has taken place in Ankara University's School of Theology.

Fr Felix Koerner, a Christian theologian who has observed the project, says some of the sayings - also known individually as "hadiths" - can be shown to have been invented hundreds of years after the Prophet Muhammad died, to serve the purposes of contemporary society.

"Unfortunately you can even justify through alleged hadiths, the Muslim - or pseudo-Muslim - practice of female genital mutilation," he says.

"You can find messages which say 'that is what the Prophet ordered us to do'. But you can show historically how they came into being, as influences from other cultures, that were then projected onto Islamic tradition."

The argument is that Islamic tradition has been gradually hijacked by various - often conservative - cultures, seeking to use the religion for various forms of social control.

Leaders of the Hadith project say successive generations have embellished the text, attributing their political aims to the Prophet Muhammad himself.
