Michael's identity is not specified but we are forbidden to oppose him(29. How can we avoid opposing an entitty that we do not know? And we should understand Michael from Quran alone. How can Jonah survive in the belly of a fish? How come can dreams predict future as far as science is concerned? How can Noah live so long as 950 years?

I came to the conclusion that abstaining from hair cut is a symbol for protest against those who block Muslims' pilgrimage.

What I am looking for is that God's commandments should be rational. And as I see from your posts your approach is just the same. I want to find a way out of this bothering puzzle. It is obvious that cutting hair is meant to be physical(all translations have it that way plus a person with an illness on the head is exempted from the command) But this does not make any sense to me. I want to state again that I need help here!

2196. And complete the Pilgrimage and the visit for God. But, if you are prevented, then make what is affordable of donation, and do not shave your heads until the donation reaches its destination; but whoever of you is ill or has an affliction to his head, then he may redeem by fasting or giving a charity or a sacrifice

   In general, should we rationalize extraordinary occurences in the Quran?

Dear all,

I cannot understand the commandment that those who go to Haj should abstain from hair cut until their offering has reached its destination? And those who have to have their cut are expected to expiate by fasting etc as if abstaining from hair cut is a major spiritual progress. What can be the logic behind it?

I would not prefer to have my first post here dwelling on a very specific concept in the Quran. Instead, I would want to tell my views regarding the overall message of the Quran. However, this issue is really boggling my mind
I want to know who Michael is(verse 297-9 and how we can ever avoid being an enemy to him unless we know who he is. And I think we should be able to do that from Quran only.
