To answer your query Eathdom; I was differentiating between how Quran indicates that we are allowed to eat certain animals (and use them to our aid for transport and clothing etc.) compared to how animals are currently used on such a mass 'industrial' scale that it seems we have forgotten that they are Gods creation too and not inanimate unfeeling, unthinking 'things'.

BTW There are plenty of alternatives such as free-range farms (some halal in the UK) and occasional 'veggie' meals so that our demand for intensively reared meat, eggs etc. becomes less.

I am questioning modern industrial farming techniques of which more than 95% of the meat and animal products around the world come from - including the majority of ?halal? products.
