Salam all, my name is Oriel, with blessing I?m monotheist, I have submitted and take Quran as guidance from the creator. I?m looking forwarding to talking about Quran ;D
I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on animal welfare and modern factory farming in light of Quran and submission? I have looked over some previous posts on veganism etc. but they don?t quite cover the topic I am seeking.
I was talking about this issue with a friend sometime ago and he (a muslim meat-eater of meat from any source as long as marked ?halal?) brought up an interesting point that I hadn?t considered?
638 There is not a creature in the earth, or a bird that flies with its wings, but are nations like you. We did not leave anything out of the book; then to their Lord they will be summoned.
1744 He is glorified by the seven heavens and the earth and who is in them, and there is not a thing but it glorifies His praise, but you do not understand their glorification. He is Compassionate, Forgiving.
- Reformist translation (concurring in monotheist translation)
If all creatures worship like us and are brought to God along with us on the day of judgement is how we have treated them in this life something we are judged on in the same way we are judged on how we have treated fellow humans? If we have been responsible for torture, suffering and abominable and debase treatment of fellow worshipers of God will they speak out against us? After all, we know that God and prophets talk to the animals (1668, 271 so is it conceivable?
In turn, do we as monotheist submitters have an obligation to protect (all) the weak and vulnerable from such abuses?
475 Why do you not fight in the cause of God, when the oppressed amongst the men and women and children say, "Our Lord, bring us out of this town whose people are wicked, and grant us from Yourself a Supporter, and grant us from Yourself a Victor!"
Please note I am not questioning whether it is wrong to respectfully rear and slaughter an animal for food. I am questioning modern industrial farming techniques of which more than 95% of the meat and animal products around the world come from - including the majority of ?halal? products. For example chickens http//www.viva.org.uk/resources/campaign-materials/fact-sheets/recipe-disaster
I look forward to hearing your views and contributing more in general, with thanks and peace.
