No offence, then what is the deal with the ablution, the focal point, why do we bow and do the prostration, what are these things for then?

The verses on the focal point do not even mention the word salat in any context. The 'bowing' and 'prostrations' aren't physical actions, they represent obedience and humility while u submit to Allah.

I don't believe in Salat as a ritual anymore.. so I just take it as a continuation of upholding the commitment/bond/oath I have with Allah of staying within his prescribed system.

I vote for it to be promoted at the free-minds website under Articles. It's definitely one explanation that's emerging to be the final explanation to Salat.. all else have led to ambiguity. I guess it's time Allah wants the God-Alone community to finally have a unanimous outcome to this most important debate.

I suggest you find yourself some good hobbies (preferably physical) to occupy yourself. Remember, free time is your worst enemy in this phase of life... try to keep yourself busy in productive activities.

Easier said than done I know.. but not impossible.

Also, don't let societal norms dictate your way of life.. As someone who married at the 'right' age I'd recommend youngsters to get married early.. That's the right time when your body and mind is ripe for the physical part of the relationship and it also keeps you away from seeking the same in immoral ways.

good for you.. of course when I use "we" I automatically only include those who agree with my point of view.. that we still need more clarifications.. those who 've already made up their minds wouldn't be interested in this debate anyway.

I do not see it as a 'ritual' and arguments for it being a ritual aren't compelling..

I still heavily lean towards taking it as 'commitment' as it explains a LOT Of verses which remained shrouded in mystery earlier with the salat=ritual definition.

would still mean 'sumit' or 'submission'. It wouldn't signify a physical movement because according to my very limited understanding it can't be the traditional definition of 'salat' which is being discussed. According to clues given by Aidid Safar if you consider the context developed by 4101 this activity is being performed with the unbelievers. Hence the steps taken for personal safety of the Prophet.

and I agree.. if there is ONE issue we as a community need to address... it's SALAT.

We've got to get together and ponder over it's meaning and come out with something definitive; so far I'm very tempted to understand it as "commitment" as per Aidid Safar. Some of the verses really start making sense when u apply this meaning but others clearly don't.

Maybe Salat has all it's different meanings in all these different verses.. maybe this is the test for those who 'ponder over the verses' as opposed to the ones who are content being just 'Muslims' and don't wish to achieve the higher status of being a 'Momin' and the hard work that goes with it.

quite simply the strongest argument in Ahmed's favor is the use of the word "yatim" in the Qur'an.. we do not get any evidence of it meaning "Alone" by it's use in the Qur'an.. which is our primary guide.. as it explains itself.

However, the OP's discovery of the use of plural and singular when addressing the Prophet do hold some weight. The context of the use of addressing the Prophet as "orphan" and "lost" also suggests the meaning to be more on the non-literal side.

I still think it's a noble effort by the OP to share this discovery.

I think the stories in the Qur'an were included for a purpose.. It's my understanding that they were included as a reminder/evidence of the message's truthfulness, strengthening the believer's belief in Allah and the message and the certainty of the hour whenever it comes.

this is conjecture.. the verses we're consulting give us no indication this was ever the case.

It isn't my logic but I am leaning towards agreeing with it.. It makes more sense.. read 937 too.. "And He found you lost, and He guided you?" do u now have an accompanying story from this "History" about when the Prophet got lost and was found?

I believe 'orphaned' and 'lost' here are not to be taken literally.

most of all it contradicts the Quran that said he was an orphan but Allah provided shelter and protection to him (that must be through his gran father and his uncle then therough his rich wife Khadiga)

no the Qur'an doesn't say that.. there's no mention of his father uncle or Khadiga.. could u let me know where u read this in the Qur'an?

the words appear in 1894 and 2196 and according to my limited understanding can in both cases be interpreted as some natural phenomenon that can be constrained by building a natural barrier.. could be some rivers that carry toxic substances to harm crops or something along that lines.. but Allah knows Best.

if "yatim" can be traslated as alone the argument has merit. I wonder why Ahmed refuses to entertain this possibility and on what grounds?
