  • Sana'a Manuscripts?

I urge you to check out the post in this link http//forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=156136803&p=1271148781&viewfull=1#post1271148781

The poster gives a historical breakdown of the reasons for there being different manuscripts written at or around the time of revelation. You may balk at the fact that he uses hadith to make his point, but he mentions that they are mutawaatir hadith, meaning that they are narrated from enough different sources that they are pretty much necessarily historically authentic. It makes sense that the Qur'an was revealed in different dialects - how else would the different Arabs understand them? - and that the manuscripts would diverge considerable amounts due to what I'd expect is mutual unintelligibility between dialects.

Allah said his Quran is detailed. If he wanted to point the verse at real homosexuals he would have said "I condemn homosexuals because they do not force themselves to be attracted to women". He could have also said "men with no physical desire for women". He already used that line in one Surah. I pasted the verse. When he said instead of women, he made it clear that the men he was talking about were straight, but they chose the unnatural way by rejecting women for men. The idea of lust to me is one night stand which is punishable as stated in Quran. It is currently applied to sexual relationships of unmarried men and women.

As I said earlier, since Allah hasn't given anything on how to treat them we can't at this moment decide whether homosexuality is truly a sin. Just letting you know that I am talking about eunuchs.

I feel like you're grasping for straws. I'll leave you to read all the verses regarding this. The straightfoward interpretation is that homosexual acts are disapproved. Make note that we shouldn't be twisting the verses to suit our whims.

The verse you pasted refers to men with no sexual desire. These could be eunuchs or asexuals, and I would interpret homosexuals in there as well.

Furthermore, no one is saying that homosexual intercourse has its own specific punishment, but again, the straightforward interpretation leads us to believe that anyone who is caught by four witnesses having extramarital intercourse receives a number of lashes.

    Allahu a'lim.

Since you're reading from a translation, you might be interested in websites where you can get translations side by side. After all, all translations of the Qur'an are merely interpretations! Edip-Layth-Martha is compared to others on quranix.org. There are more mainstream translations on quran.com. There are also a huge amount of translations listed in parallel at islamawakened.com/quran.

    Peace reel,

'In preference to women, you satisfy your lust with men.' Homosexuals have no interest in opposite sex. They just can't do it.

Your quote does not suggest that the people of Lut were actually attracted to women. Here, "in preference to" means "instead of". Check other translations to verify, as well as this thesaurus entry http//thesaurus.com/browse/in+preference

Allah confirms of such men in the verse below
"And tell the believing women to reduce of their vision and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment except that which appears thereof and to wrap their headcovers over their chests and not expose their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands' fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers, their brothers' sons, their sisters' sons, their women, that which their right hands possess, or those male attendants having no physical desire"2431

I don't think the Qur'an denies that homosexual (or even asexual) men exist, but I don't think that this in any way justifies people approaching others of the same sex with desire.

Since Allah does not give us instructions on how to treat homosexuals I think we should just let them be what they are. How can we take decisions for them when Allah has made them as such?

I absolutely think we should let homosexuals be, but I don't think it's right to tell people that the Qur'an says that acting on homosexual desires is okay. To me, it seems to clearly denounce that kind of behaviour.

    Allahu a'lim.

The question, as I posed earlier, still remains- is the commission of this sin any lesser or any greater than the commission of any other sin? Is a same-sex intercourse event the same order of sin as, say, eating pork or theft?

This is my honest opinion, and by no means do I consider it definitive, but since there to me looks to be little comparison between sins in the Qur'an (alone), I think it's sort of a difficult thing to come up with a ranked list of sins. Obviously there are the gravest sins like shirk and murder of innocents, but I can't recall any great distinction in magnitude between the others. The wilful commission of any sin appears to be a very bad thing if not for a good reason. However, intuition leads me to believe that same-sex intercourse is worse than regular zina because it is mentioned specifically, as opposed to the Qur'an mentioning simply that the people of Lut committed zina. Hopefully this seems logical to you.

Unequivocally, we can see that the people of Lut were punished for a culmination of misdeeds beyond homosexual behavior. Furthermore, we can see that they were in a state of intoxication/drunkenness. It is plausible that their behaviors were influenced by their mental alteration, and this would provide some insight.

I'll agree on the idea that the people of Lut were punished for more than just their approach of the same sex.

Indeed, you approach men and obstruct the road and commit in your meetings evil. (Surat Al-'Anqabut 29)

However It's clear to me that approaching members of the same sex is one of those evils. While I don't believe there is a prescribed earthly punishment, I don't deny the opinion that there may be punishment for this in the life to come.

And his people came hastening to him, and before they had been doing evil deeds. He said, "O my people, these are my daughters; they are purer for you. So fear Allah and do not disgrace me concerning my guests. Is there not among you a man of reason?" (Surat Hud 7

Moving on, while I could be wrong as I don't have any evidence, I believe the behavior of engaging sexually with someone of the same sex without having attraction to them is rare and unnatural, but I haven't heard of this happening before. If anyone else has, kindly provide evidence as this would be particularly useful information I would think it is possible under some state of mental alteration that this behavior could potentially happen, and it is this particular case I think may have been present in Lut's people.

Perhaps approaching someone of the same sex without attraction for them is unnatural, but it seems to me that this isn't the explicit sin here. The people of Lut appear to have been approaching those of the same sex with lust, and the text makes no reference to the attraction of one person to another. In either case, it seems homosexuality is not the culprit here, but rather that practicing sexual acts with someone of the same sex is the sin.

    Allah knows best.

You said As for my honest opinion, homosexuality is not a sin, but for someone to approach another of the same sex with desire is forbidden. I have felt this desire before, but with God's help, I will never approach a man with it.

While I agree with your statement, I disagree with the word " homosexuality". What does it mean? That is the issue.

Peace be upon you, good logic.

As per common vernacular in my region, I use the word "homosexuality" as a reference to the corresponding property of some individuals, i.e. being homosexual. We know that being homosexual precisely entails sexual attraction to members of the same sex. Being homosexual does not in any way entail an action, e.g. living with a man of the same sex, using your example.

I just wanna make fun of retards who claim that Quran isnt against homosexuality when it clearly is, it says that more than 5 times. I believe in Adam and Eve and not Adam and Steve. They are making fun of Quran, God and creation that has been attacked through mainstream media which openly promote luciferian ideology.

And please watch your etiquette. Do you really think it is becoming of a believer to make a mockery of others? Take heed.

Seest thou not how Allah sets forth a parable? - A goodly word like a goodly tree, whose root is firmly fixed, and its branches (reach) to the heavens,- of its Lord. So Allah sets forth parables for men, in order that they may receive admonition.
It brings forth its fruit at all times, by the leave of its Lord. So Allah sets forth parables for men, in order that they may receive admonition.
And the parable of an evil Word is that of an evil tree It is torn up by the root from the surface of the earth it has no stability

    Peace be upon you.

I understand that the verses on homosexuality are in reference to Lut's people. Before I cite those, I want to state that at the present moment, I am unequivocally against homophobia. I don't believe homosexuality can be considered sinful under the understanding that it is not a personal choice. After studying some developmental psychology and reading papers on homosexuality, I have come to the conclusion that homosexuality is not, by any means, a personal choice. Based on current scientific literature, it is not even linked to upbringing. There has long been established a hereditary link; the current progress is discovering a causal link by means of epigenetics.

I'm of the opinion that you're right. For all those wondering, there has been a series of documentaries which focuses on heritability among other things, and in one episode, it touches on the issue of homosexuality http//vimeo.com/album/2907736/video/19869748

At a part in this video, we come to twins, one of which is gay while the other isn't so. The explanation given is that while they are genetically identical people, they have differing epigenetics (i.e. they have the same genes but they express genes differently, through no choice of their own). We can reasonably come to the conclusion that some people are simply born homosexual, and I think it is simply unproductive to think otherwise.

As for my honest opinion, homosexuality is not a sin, but for someone to approach another of the same sex with desire is forbidden. I have felt this desire before, but with God's help, I will never approach a man with it.

The people of Lut rejected the messengers. Behold, their brother Lut said to them ?Will ye not fear (Allah)? I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust. So fear Allah and obey me. No reward do I ask of you for it my reward is only from the lord of the Worlds. Of all the creatures in the world, will ye approach males, And leave those whom Allah has created for you to be your mates? Nay, ye are a people transgressing (all limits)!?
They said ?If thou desist not, O Lut! thou wilt assuredly be cast out!?
He said ?I do detest your doings.? (Surat ash-Shuara 160-16

Do the people think that they will be left to say, "We believe" and they will not be tried? But We have certainly tried those before them, and Allah will surely make evident those who are truthful, and He will surely make evident the liars. (Surat al-'Anqabut 2-3)
