    Thanks, people.

I'm planning to dedicate myself to studying The Qur'an in the future, God willing, unfortunately I am busy with school at the moment and I can't do it properly right now so I thought there is already something like tafseer based on Qur'an alone.

Thank you all for your replies. )

@Huruf, I understand what you are saying, basically it's about modesty and simplicity and I totally agree.

@Wakas, I understood the concepts of hidden and apparent, but what bugs me is that, according to this interpretation, we are allowed to show our hidden beauty to our family, excluding private parts of course. Maybe I'm having troubles with understanding English, forgive me if that is a case and I'm being annoying.

    salaam,

If it was a reference to "make-up" then what of one who does not wear "make-up"? What degree of "make-up"? etc.

    I recommend this

    Salaam wakas,

I read this article before, it's a good one but it doesn't answer my question. The translation of the 2431 in the article uses "beauty" instead of "adornment" and I need to know what is considered "beauty" or "adornment". If those adornments are woman's breast, thighs, and such stuff then I don't really understand how am I allowed to show off those in presence of my father or father in law or my brother?Isn't that supposed to be visible to my husband only? If so, then those parts don't fit in that definition.

    (1) WHAT CONSTITUTES ZEENATAHUNNA?

An understanding of the root word ?ZAY-YA-NUN? (from zeenatahunna) clearly indicates that this is a reference to make-up, beautifying oneself, adorn to an extent which can become a cause of attraction. The directive is not to display this beauty and adornment to those other than the people listed in verse 2431.

    Abdullah

    Salams,

thanks for the link but I don't really understand the connection between adornment and make up. From my understanding, adornment is part of female body not sure what parts, though.

-Edit- On an unrelated note I watched The Stoning of Soraya M. the other night (. It's so messed up (the practice of stoning) and I cried in areas. The main bad guy (the husband, who falsely accused his wife of adultery just so he doesn't have to spend on her anymore) in the film I'd soccer-kick in the balls. They literally declared simply talking nicely to and hand-touching a man who wasn't the husband as punishable by this pagan shit (if you're concerned of spoilers, the trailer would've revealed that much). Here's the box art

    http//s017.radikal.ru/i413/1206/3e/214c4fbbf886.jpg

It's torrent-able so if anyone wants to see how like dogs Sunni/Shiite Muslims in the Middle East can be, you can see it. There are even torrents of it in HD.

I've seen this movie, it's a perfect example how people abuse shariah law and personalize it to suit their wicked desires. I think this is the only movie I've ever seen that made me cry. I'd like to show it to all people who believe that punishment for adultery in Islam is stoning to death and later ask them if they truly believe such horror is OK in God's s.w.t. eyes.

    True.

The 'crowd' and 'mob' has never shown great wisdom, thought or intelligence throughout history. They've always been controlled by emotion and chaotic dynamic patterns.

And also, Edip is NOT having intentions of instigating violence. He is not out there to insult the prophet (who is anyway dead and cannot be insulted). He is asking for POSITIVE cartoons, not ridiculing ones. That's hell of a difference. The difference lies in the intent. Edip's intention is good. I believe he aims to

    1. Lessen the level of taboo that surrounds the cartoons, and thereby, over time, disarm the sheepish, insane and emotional tendencies to misdirected and unjustified violence.
    2. By taking the edge off the cartoon taboo... he is taking away power from those who indeed use cartoons in a ridiculing way.
    3. Indirectly expose the madness of hadith and show the world that there is more to islam and quran than what people think. That is, to give people a chance to find out about real islam.

There will always be resistance to change. Always. It stems from fear. But change is life and life is change. No change means death. One can never advance and develop by resisting change. When you move forward to grow, you will have to move through your current states. It cannot be avoided. Avoiding cartoons will just mean that we accept the current situation, and accept that it should not change. Truth and the exposure of falsehood will not be realized through fear and avoidance of change.

Edip's work is commendable, no matter the details of his understanding. In my opinion there should be more people having a spirit like that of Edip's. He's doing a wonderful job in promoting the truth and exposing old, stagnant and mad things in religion.

    Cheers

I'm not questioning Edip's intents, I already said that, but not one of those extremists in the "crowd" will think about what message he wanted to send. They believe any drawing of Muhammad is a crime against Islam and in their head they are the ones to punish the person who dared to blaspheme or anyone else who is in any way connected to the "blasphemer". We have seen what happened in the past when nonMuslims "insulted" Islam, I don't want to know what would happen if a Muslim do the same.

No. The muslims could just ignore the cartoonist and then there wont be any problems. Do you want to limit freedom of expression because some idiots would respond with violence?

Muslims dont have ANY right to respond with violence of any cartoon, whatsoever. They are behaving like a spoiled child who doesnt get what he wants.

Do you have a problem with comprehending my words? If so, please do tell, I'm willing to draw it for you.

By ignoring cartoonists you mean we should start making our own caricatures or movies? Do you understand what "ignoring" means? What you call "freedom of expression" is nothing but abuse of the very same privilege. I don't support any kind of violence, and what is suggested here, in the OP of the thread, is a match that can light a huge fire (of violence) and this time it would be "Muslims against Muslims".

    Peace and God bless.

''I am only responsible for what I say, not for what you understand''

Its not the cartoonist problem that some crazy muslims go violent.

Cartoonist's only aim is to provoke Muslims to violence, they don't make cartoons/movies because they like Muhammad so very much. They managed to twist already twisted hadith just to insult Muslims and many Muslims fail to see that and fail to protest against that in civilized manner. Instead of enraging them with more cartoons, reasonable Muslim community should condemn violence and "provoke" Muslims to answer with peace.

I don't care about pictures of Muhammad but what you are suggesting is wrong. Majority of Muslims believe that any depiction of our beloved Prophet is an insult and no matter what your intentions are they will take it as such. You are violating their beliefs and in return they will respond with violence, in best case you would be called an enemy of Islam and I don't think any Muslim would love to have that nickname.

Someone here said we should only fear Allah s.w.t. not people, which is correct, but if I remember correctly Allah does not love wrongdoers and what you are calling for is wrong on many levels.

be fair, I totally understand what Shila is saying and she is right........to a point.

"authu billahi min shaitan ilraheem .... as i said before, even you show them the truth, them hearts will be closed, and them ears will be closed, Allah guide her really or she gonna be lost in hell. and Allah protect us from commiting the same sin."

That is a post by someone in a group, this is about ME after being kicked out of the group for quoting Quran and they think I am the sinner for not accepting hadith, we do the same here though. Each are convinced they are right.

    Thanks Ayisha D

    @Maha
Dear sister, I have no interest in playing cop or anything like that, I just don't like seeing people judging others and mocking them. This is not just a case with "Quranists"vs"Salafis", I generally don't like that since only The Almighty knows what we all are.

Another thing is, people who follow Qur'an alone/God alone, should bear in mind these two ayahs

4911 O you who believe, let not any people ridicule other people, for they may be better than they. Nor shall any women ridicule other women, for they may be better than they. Nor shall you mock one another, or call each other names; miserable indeed is the name of wickedness after attaining faith. And anyone who does not repent, then these are the transgressors.

2563 And the servants of the Almighty who walk on the earth in humility and if the ignorant speak to them, they say "Peace."

I don't think we should not debate, share our views with others and stand firm in our beliefs and defend them at any cost against attackers, but we should do it with humbleness as well.

    God bless you all.

    Peace and love.

    Salaams Shila,

That is OK if you differ and you are right that only Allah knows what is in their hearts and He said that in AlQuraan.

    28
28 And of the people are they who say, "We believe in Allah and the Last Day," but they are not believers.

    29
29 They deceive Allah and those who believe, but they deceive not except themselves and perceive not.

    210
210 In their hearts is disease, so Allah has increased their disease; and for them is a painful punishment because they used to lie.

    211
211 And when it is said to them, "Do not cause corruption on the earth," they say, "We are but reformers."

    212
212 Unquestionably, it is they who are the corrupters, but they perceive not.

You can go on reading the following aayaats till 220 and try comparing these aayaats with those who call themselves Muslims.

    541
541 O Messenger, let them not grieve you who hasten into disbelief of those who say, "We believe" with their mouths, but their hearts believe not, and from among the Jews. Avid listeners to falsehood, listening to another people who have not come to you. They distort words beyond their usages, saying "If you are given this, take it; but if you are not given it, then beware." But he for whom Allah intends fitnah ? never will you possess for him a thing against Allah. Those are the ones for whom Allah does not intend to purify their hearts. For them in this world is disgrace, and for them in the Hereafter is a great punishment.

As I said before, I shared my personal experiences, I used to be a salafi and I used to give them dars, so, I know much about them. I faced them many times.

    Salaams Khan,

thanks for the verses D though I don't really think they talk about salafis, my understanding is that they speak about hypocrite people, who say they believe in God just to gain some earthly benefits or something like that.
Almost all of us followed/believed hadith for some period of time, by the will of God we stopped so, perhaps, God just wants to test us with people we once were. It's not OK to be arrogant after you were blessed.

May Allah protect us and guide us to His true path pr

    Salaam Shila,

Please correct the highlighted part above.

    From
"the people who believe that there is no God, but God"

    To
"the people who say that there is no God, but God"

We are not doing anything unQuranic inshaAllah. We are sharing our experience that we had. As per my experience many believe as

"the people who believe that there is no God, but Mohammed but say that there is no God, but God".

Believe me, this is my personal experiences I have faced many times. They never even have respect for Allah compare to Mohammed.

May Allah protect us from all kind of shirks and guide us to His only single path pr
    mmKhan

    Salaams Khan,

I beg to differ. You have no knowledge of whether people just say those words or they really feel it. That knowledge is with Allah s.w.t. since he is the only one who can look into person's heart. On the other hand, I understand what you are saying since I, myself, am familiar and, at times, annoyed with hardcore hadithists who are, to put it nicely, pretty stubborn in their belief concerning hadith but that is not a reason to mock them.

I'm just waiting for someone to come to conclusion that in fact, you are not ought to ready/study Qur'an it can be any book you want since God in Qur'an says that everything in the Heavens and the Earth belongs to him, therefore all the books are God's books.

if they are from a trusted source then you are just following facts.. then that can obviously not be shirk but truth and following the truth is following God.

quran says I have given you the hearing, the eyesight, and the brain, and you are responsible for using them.

I am believing other books no matter true or not. According to you that's shirk.

I know there are hadiths from which we can get good advices, I don't see problem in taking a good advice, whichever source we got it from.

My problem with some Muslims is that they claim Qur'an is incomplete without hadith or that hadith is divinely inspired, and that is what I will never accept.
