Alcohol is the reason for people to get sick (i.e. alcohol induced mental health problems, poisoning), to get killed...
They say so many people die because of alcohol
They never realized how many of them are born because of it hmm

Peace Eikonoklastes,
Can you share with us a sample of how the process went
The key was to have her question what she has been taught all her life. The problem is they (traditional muslims) always refer to so called scholars or Mullahs, and that you and I don't have the authority to question them. brickwall
One of the fundamental beliefs they have is that prophet Muhammad is the most beloved of all prophets. So I asked her if that was true, and the reply was a confident affirmative. I then showed her 2136 and 384. Her response was, "see, it purposely excludes prophet Muhammad's name from the list because he is "special" and more beloved." I then asked if no specific name was mentioned and God had instructed us in the Quran that no distinction shall be made between the prophets by humans, would she at least be open to discussions regarding the Sunni faith without invoking the need for scholars? Fairly confident that this was not in the Quran, she agreed; to which I then showed her 2285 and 4152. After the initial shock elektro she was at least willing to listen to what I had to say. jedi
You might wonder, didn't she ever read the above verses in the Quran? From a Pakistani and Indian perspective (don't know about others) let me introduce you to the biggest fraud ever in the name of religion (well, 2nd biggest as I believe what Bukhari and Muslim did was worse). Translation is called tharjooma in Urdu, and an opinion based explanation is called tafseer. What I told my wife is that this so called translation in Urdu she has been reading all her life is nothing but tafseer disguised as a translation. She thought that was impossible! Trickery of this grandeur was inconceivable!
As she is able to read Arabic and make sense of some words, I asked her to read the" tharjooma" of 242 in Urdu, which she did. This so called "translation" contained the following (paraphrasing here) ...for the unmarried adulterer and adulteress 100 lashes are prescribed and for the married adulterer and adulteress they shall be stoned to death...
I then used Corpus Quran and she followed each word in Arabic, and voila - could not find any of the added urdu words in the Arabic verse. I believe this was the last straw; she then knew what needed to be done...read an un-adulterated translation (if there is such a thing) of the Quran. I purchased the FM Quran by Layth as it is my favorite, and the process continues.
To top it off, I then showed her all the filth in the so called sahih hadiths, which was just icing on the cake so to speak.
Regards,
peace

How did you first come to learn about Quranism ( for a lack of a better word) ? I guess I've always kinda been one, till I finally started to do some research and stumbled upon this site. My Parents also reject most of the hadeeth that have the trait of Chinese whispers and do not jive with the Quran, so their influence had something to do with it.
And at what age? 37
Do you personaly know fellow Quranist or are you alone with your view in your social network? Alone
Do you primarily reject Hadith on the basis of authority or authenticity? Both
Salaam Sohil,
You are a brave man; keep up the good work. welcome
I stopped masturbating for 2 years (though i am again doing it) and in total i think i had like a maximum of 5 or 6 wet dreams during that two year abstince (i was about 18 then). From experience i think once your body gets the discipline, the urge is lessened. So I think once someone goes past three months of abstinence, it becomes easy and you very rarely end up getting wet dreams. I masturbate like once a week or every two weeks as i feel that that is naturally best. Although i am reconsidering just being completely abstinent again....
OMG, seriously dude, no need to divulge personal information -\ if by any chance we happen to meet I'll LMFAO so please don't be offended rotfl
...and will not be shaking hands either yuck
... did someone call me?
rotfl
However, I don't understand this part " or those whom their right hands possess". Those that mean it is aloud to masturbate?
Uh oh! If one is a lefty is he damned to hell or "self-celibacy" for eternity. rotfl rotfl rotfl
Ok seriously before this thread is trashed; if it is not explicitly forbidden, then we as humans cannot forbid it. Please see

@Raaajah and Mazhar Yes, I realize the understanding of certain verses of the Quran are subject to one's interpretation, however, pretty good work by Wakas none the less.
@ Raaajah I learned the hard way; a loose dhoti...never a good thing -[

Salaam all,
Does anyone know of a hadith free translation of the Quran on audio CD? Something with the arabic recitation followed by english. A good one would be the FM quran or Muhammad Assad's.
peace
After much discussions/arguments I'm ecstatic! My wife is now a Muslim. yay yay yay yay
She totally rejects her Sunni heritage and follows the Quran alone; and now we can teach our kids to the best of our knowledge.
Much gratitude and thanks to all who make contributions to this cause not only on this site but all over. bravo bravo bravo

LiteralBut He forbade/prohibited on you animals whose death was caused by suffocation or strangulation/dead, and the blood, and the pig's/swine's meat/flesh, and what is praised/declared to whom the sacrifice was made with it to other than God, so who was forced, not transgressing/corrupting , and nor transgressing/violating , so no sin/crime on him, that God (is) forgiving , most merciful .
Free_MindsHe has only forbidden for you what is already dead, and the blood, and the meat of pig, and what was dedicated to other than God. Whoever finds himself forced out of need and without disobedience or animosity, then there is no sin upon him. God is Forgiving, Merciful.
KhalifaHe only prohibits for you the eating of animals that die of themselves (without human interference), blood, the meat of pigs, and animals dedicated to other than GOD. If one is forced (to eat these), without being malicious or deliberate, he incurs no sin. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful.
Yusuf_AliHe hath only forbidden you dead meat, and blood, and the flesh of swine, and that on which any other name hath been invoked besides that of Allah. But if one is forced by necessity, without wilful disobedience, nor transgressing due limits,- then is he guiltless. For Allah is Oft-forgiving Most Merciful.
ShakirHe has only forbidden you what dies of itself, and blood, and flesh of swine, and that over which any other (name) than (that of) Allah has been invoked; but whoever is driven to necessity, not desiring, nor exceeding the limit, no sin shall be upon him; surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
PickthalHe hath forbidden you only carrion, and blood, and swineflesh, and that which hath been immolated to (the name of) any other than Allah. But he who is driven by necessity, neither craving nor transgressing, it is no sin for him. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
ArberryThese things only has He forbidden you carrion, blood, the flesh of swine, what has been hollowed to other than God. Yet who so is constrained, not desiring nor transgressing, no sin shall be on him; God is All-forgiving, All-compassionate.
George_SaleVerily he hath forbidden you to eat that which dieth of is self, and blood, and swine's flesh, and that on which any other name but God's hath been invocated. But he who is forced by necessity, not lusting, nor returning to transgress, it shall be no crime in him if he eat of those things, for God is gracious and merciful.
Hilali_KhanHe has forbidden you only the Maytatah (dead animals), and blood, and the flesh of swine, and that which is slaughtered as a scrifice for others than Allah (or has been slaughtered for idols, etc., on which Allahs Name has not been mentioned while slaughtering). But if one is forced by necessity without wilful disobedience nor transgressing due limits, then there is no sin on him. Truly, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
MalikHe has forbidden you to eat dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which any name other than Allah has been invoked; but if someone is compelled by absolute necessity, intending neither to sin nor to transgress, they shall incur no sin. Surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
Maulana_AliHe has forbidden you only what dies of itself, and blood, and the flesh of swine, and that over which any other (name) than (that of) Allah has been invoked. Then whoever is driven by necessity, not desiring, nor exceeding the limit, no sin is upon him. Surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
QXPHe has forbidden you only carrion (any animal that dies by itself), and blood, and swine flesh, and anything --- (not just meat) --- that has been dedicated to any other than Allah (be it any person, an ancestor, a saint, an idol or a tomb (53)). But, he who is compelled out of necessity, neither craving nor indulging in excess, it is not a dragging violation for him. Behold, Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
SarwarGod has forbidden you to eat that which has not been properly slaughtered, blood, pork, and the flesh of any animal which has not been consecrated with a mention of the Name of God. However, in an emergency, without the intention of transgression or repeating transgression, one will not be considered to have committed a sin. God is All-forgiving and All-merciful.
As you can see above, most translations used the word only as in "...He has forbidden you only carrion..."
Can someone please explain which arabic word used in the sura translates to "only"?
I'm of the opinion that the connotation of this word has a profound impact on this verse.
Thanks for your help!
peace
