Well this sounds contradicting... Didn't God say that if you obey the majority of the people on earth, they will lead you from the path of God?

"If you obey the majority of people on earth, they will divert you from the path of God. They follow only conjecture; they only guess." (6116).

Sounds weird. Where in the Quran does it say that we need to be with the majority? And if the Quran really says that... it contradicts with verse 6116 -\

Someone I know told me that sentence, when I was in a discussion about why should one have to do what everyone else does etc. I apologise if it is incorrect. )

First time I have read this thread and liked cavemanDoctors advice very much.

i am from a Christian background and I miss the 'traditional' Christmas!

I was talking the other day with another convert here, she was asking me what I do for Eid. I said nothing special as since being in Egypt during 3 previous Ramadans I feel nothing, I do not 'feel' what everyone else seems to 'feel' and this year is planned to be seclusion for Ramadan for me. But last December I did SO miss the Christmas 'feel' that there is in UK. Its the tradition I miss, I know that, and my kids and grand-monsters. ;D

Doesnt mean I resent being muslim because that is what I chose to be and I see it as an 'evolution' rather than a rejecting the Christianity. Never believed in the trinity traditional view anyway, but Christmas day I always gave a little prayer in relation to the birth of a great prophet of God. I see no wrong in that.

I just wish I could have the 'feeling' that Muslims here have during Ramadan which to them is the same as I 'feel' in UK at Christmas I imagine, and that is only because for them this is their tradition and for me that was mine. i dont think it really anything to do with the actual belief itself, just the tradition.

I am the same I don't get that 'feeling' either. And it probably is just the tradition.

Absolutely. There are things that I will not let go of or change because that is who I am. I was born in Australia but of a different descent. There's a saying, "You can take a boy out of the country but you can't take the country out of a boy.

Welcome to the forum. ) Sorry, I can't really offer any advice. The last time I spoke to someone about a particular topic, that was not in the Quran therefore was not the words of God, I was told that as Muslims we believe in the Quran and the way of sunnah. I was like ok-ay. -X My knowledge at this time is not enough to debate, but I am still learning. Perhaps, others might have advice they can offer.

I heard if you recite it, it gives protection and wards off evil, and should be recited before bedtime. Here is a translation I found

Its interesting to read everyone's opinions. I think that anyone who believes in God and only God will be saved. I don't think that a non-Muslim who believes in God only 'will burn in hell'. I believe this, because the Quran says, see below. It is as clear as day.

Those who believe, and those who are Jewish, and the Sabiens, and the Nazarenes*; whoever of them believes in God and the Last Day and does good works, then they will have nothing to fear nor will they grieve.

I once had a converstation with a Muslim person, and when I asked if my family (who are non-Muslim but believe in God) would go to heaven, the person would not say yes. I was bewildered as how someone who believes in God and does good things as humanely as possible would not get accepted into heaven because they're not Muslim.

About your question, I can answer you but I prefer to go and study the hadith and the Quran . There are sunnah here (I'm one of them which are the majority in the whole word, and God order us to be with the majority) and there are Quranists and it is a sect that reject the hadith without knowledge and claiming that they follow the Quran.

My knowledge of Islam is rather basic. I was told that women are supposed to wear the hijab. But reading other posts it seems it is not the case?

I have a question, as Muslims we believe in God and Islam as our way of life. But what about the people who believe in God, but their life path has not taken them to Islam are we to consider them as non-believers? I believe not everyone has had the opportunity (not sure if opportunity is the right word) to become Muslim, so they still believe in God and God only, does it make it not right? Just curious on what others think, as this topic confuses me.
