We, as Muslims, agree that there is only one God so what does it matter if you put "the" in front of "God."
I agree with you on this one, as it is the belief that's important. However, I still like to emphasize "the", especially when writing. This is just my personal preference. When writing to a group of people with different beliefs, it's best to clarify, IMO.

I read your original post and skimmed through the others. My first thought was what sc wrote... this is between you. your wife and your son. Just knowing where you (both) stand is not enough, IMHO. A line has to be drawn, where others cannot interfere, including religion. The decisions you come to should be between the two of you with your son in mind. But once you let others sway you, and further decide you fate, then I believe you will only end up in regret.

Ask the God for guidance and help, and do what you (both) know to be best for you.

what i find odd is how on earth can true submitters to god who follow the true path guided by the prophet mohammed and past prophets accept the distribution of hadith, especially if its clear cut clear that it is absolutely wrong or an innovation..

I'm not exactly sure what you meant by this, but I just thought I'd point out - 'prophet mohammed and other past prophets' were not here to guide. Only the God guides.

So did you get to slaughter a goat, or something? It's a little harder if you live in western countries, I guess. A friend of mine once told me their neighbours called the cops on them thinking they were doing some kind of 'black magic' by killing an animal in their back yard.

I used to be a 'well-done' kinda guy. But now I'm all 'medium'. And IMO that's steak juices, not blood. eat

Raw - Uncooked. Used in dishes like steak tartare. Steak is rarely eaten at this stage. However, it is gaining popularity with raw foodists.
Blue rare or very rare - Cooked very quickly; the outside is seared, but the inside is usually cool and barely cooked. The steak will be red on the inside.
Rare - The outside is gray-brown, and the middle of the steak is red and slightly warm.
Rare plus - The outside is gray-brown, and the middle of the steak is mostly red and warm, with some pink. Often ordered by those who prefer medium rare and don't mind rare but worry about overcooking towards medium.
Medium rare - The steak will have a fully red, warm center. Unless specified otherwise, upscale steakhouses (Keg, John Allan's) will generally cook to at least this level.
Medium - The middle of the steak is hot and red with pink surrounding the center. The outside is gray-brown.
Medium well - The meat is light pink surrounding the center.
Well done - The meat is gray-brown throughout and slightly charred. Well done steaks are sometimes preferred for children and the elderly, as they are more susceptible to food-borne illness.

Even when rare, there's no blood running. So yeah, what Samia said. ;D

Oh and I've seen people eat blood. They stick something into an artery of a cow, and blood just pours out. I don't know how they stop it, but the cow still lives after. They cook the blood until it coagulates and then yes, eat it. yuck

Sure it's wrong to kill so many animals, cut down trees etc...

But the problem is this happens every day of the year. If these holidays didn't exist this would still be happening. You are also ignoring that they donate a lot of the meat to the needy as well.

Yes it does happen everyday even without these celebrations, but just imagine the impact it has on our enviroment. Think of the butterfly effect. Over 2 million people go for the hajj, and they slaughter for each of those people plus some slaughter for others who didn't make it... and thats just in Saudi Arabia. As for the poor being fed, trust me, most of this doesn't reach the deserving. I have seen it for myself. They ship this meat via air cargo to other countries like Kenya, for example. The embassy send it out to various organizations and they re-distribute it to the nearest places like orphanages or some such place. Note, these places have to have freezers to be able to take the meat. Anyone who has a freezer?... isn't that needy. For them it's a nice meal, but believe me, they haven't been going hungry. So the guys in the arid lands starving, are still starving, even if 2 million EXTRA goats were killed that day.

The concept of returning the greeting is being nice, respectful etc... Do you expect anyone to take you and your beliefs seriously, if you respond with rudeness? Surely, I wouldn't take anyone seriously if they responded with such attitude.

It has nothing to do with what we believe. When we show the better example, people will follow.

I understand that and I don't disagree with it, really. But I don't believe replying that I dont celebrate Eid as being rude. I guess it's in the manner it's done that's important, and also who you're talking to.

Example;

Person 1 Eid Mubarak!
Person 2 Eid Mubarak to you too.
End of subject and they both happily go on their merry way, content with themselves.

Or...

Person 1 Eid Mubarak! (knowing person to is a 'muslim&#039
Person 2 I don't celebrate Eid...
Person 1 Really? Why not?...
And there's a chance of something there.

This second conversation actually took place with my brother and a bank clerk... he ended up talking to her for about 15-20 minutes and now she's asking him for more information. She couldn't believe she had never heard such a thing as people who don't follow traditional hadeeth.
