Greetings and peace, I've been thinking about this thing though i dont really know how to exactly express it in proper words. Were involved in all manner of discussions in this forum about a whole lot of things. All well appreciated by every one of us im certain. However though i feel that we could make great contribution in regards to bringing God praise. Not because he needs it, or anything else for that matter, but because it benefits us, our souls, giving greater purpose, purifying and because its a wonderful thing to do. I feel it would be beautiful to klick in to a category involving praise and worship and read something, anything that involves the context in question. This could benefit the forum and the group of people using it a great deal, far more than it might seem at first glance. A seperate category devoted to this purpose i believe is more than worthy of having its own place on the forum. To try to add this additional dimension to the forum would potentially make it richer by strengthening and guiding its intellectual part with the more important spiritual one. Im sure and hope that most would agree that only God would be allowed to be mentioned. This would also be the distinguishing trait which sets it apart from other such activites that might be found throughout the rest of the internet. As already is the general direction of the forum. As for the content itself i dont really know. If God wills it, he will grace and inspire those that wish to express and contribute with something in any way. Maybe one could post a video, a link to a poem or the like, write something her/him - self, or link to something else or do something else. Dont know really, anything that that fits the purpose. Ill be hoping. ) God grace the hearts and the souls of people in faith. /Halil

I have noticed that forum charset is ISO-8859-1, which means we can use a little bunch of alphabetical characters with many languages except English. I don't know is it a decided case or not but, an international forum should use UTF-8 character set for proper typing. Peace.

I kind of like this list as it lays out the major differences between the Quran and the Sects WHAT IS DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ISLAM AND TODAY'S PRACTICES? In comparing the teachings of Islam as derived from the Book of God to the practices taught and enforced by the popular Sunni and Shia faiths (1.2 Bn followers), we find that the list is quite extensive, with some of the highlights as follows In Islam, the requirement to be a Muslim is to simply accept and live according to the Straight Path (6151-153), Vs. the Sunni or Shia 5-pillars which come from unauthorized books In Islam, abolishing Slavery is taught to be an act of righteousness (9012-13), Vs. Sunni and Shia teachings which encourages slavery under war & In Islam, women are never forbidden from praying or fasting during Menstruation (2222), nor is there a specific dress code (i.e. the Headscarf) imposed on them beyond modesty, Vs. the Sunni and Shia which teach the undermining of women and forcing them to cover their hair and avoid praying or fasting at certain times... In Islam, a man or women may leave a Will, after settlement of debt (412), Vs. Sunnis who refuse to accept wills if there are any direct descendants... In Islam, Monogamy is the basis for normal relationships, while polygamy is only allowed in cases involving marrying the mothers of orphans under the mans guardianship (43), Vs. Sunnis where a man may be a polygamist simply if he can afford to, and Shia which allow sex for pleasure (Muta)... In Islam, Divorce is enforceable only after a two-phase period, and it may be made nullified if the couple reconcile before the end of this period (651, 654), Vs. Sunni teachings that destroy families by allowing a divorce to occur on the spot with no waiting period and no nullification... In Islam, Thieves do not have their hands cut-off, but are made to work until they return that which is stolen (1276), Vs. Sunni and Shia teachings which brutally amputate the hands causing disability... In Islam, no one is allowed to be killed or Stoned for adultery (242), Vs. Sunni and Shia laws of stoning married adulterers to death... In Islam, absolute Freedom of Faith is allowed (2256, 1099; 1829; 8821-22), Vs. Sunni and Shia requiring apostates to be killed and rejecting the practice of other faiths... & In Islam, people are acknowledged as being diverse and each is to be respected for his/her level of spiritual growth. A Submitter Muslim must work to attain the status of Faithful Mumin (4914), Vs. Sunni and Shia teachings that all followers of their religion must think, act, and even look the same (cult syndrome)... In Islam, War can only be declared in cases of self-defence - no offensives (2190), Vs. Sunni and Shia teachings allowing raids and attacks on any people who are considered non-Muslim by their standards... & In Islam, Pilgrimage is a centre for gathering of nations and for all to witness the benefits of being together (2227-2, Vs. Sunni and Shia bringing in polytheistic rituals and superstition (touching of black stone, circling 7 times, etc..)... In Islam, a Year is a luni-solar count made of 365-days (1712, 936), with all the seasons fitting-in-place Vs. Sunnis teaching it to be a lunar one based on 354 days which creates confusion of seasons and time In Islam, males and females are not required to be Circumcised (327), Vs. Sunni and Shia teachings requiring all males to be circumcised and females in some cases... In Islam, music, statues, gold and silk are all Lawful(732-33, 16116), Vs. Sunni beliefs forbidding silk & gold for men, and forbidding music & statues for all... In Islam, rule of Government is under the constitution of the Qur'an through consultation and free-speech (548, 423. Vs. Sunni teachings which allow the rise of dictators or monarchs, and Shia teachings which uphold self-appointed religious leaders based on genealogy. However I wish someone can translate it to Arabic so I can use them in some Arabic forum I might visit. My Arabic(classical) is not that good so I have a very hard time communicating in Arabic in the net.

The old layout of FM used to have a link called "Whats New" or something of the sort. This was really useful because I could easily check if any new articles had been posted. The new layout doesn't have anything like that, or if it is there I don't see it. I think it would be very helpful if this was put back in.

How do you stop 'watching' a topic, so to speak? I mean, after you've posted on a topic, is there a way to stop that topic always appearing in the 'Show new replies to your posts' lists? As some of these topics go on page after page after you have ceased to be involved in the discussion. Is there a way to stop them coming up on your 'new replies' page?

I found in this forum http//www.miydai.com, that this forum design can have a money system in it. You can buy stuff like more post count, change your name, title, username, get more money, and a rock.(the rock does nothing.) I thought just for fun we could do that. Just as a joke.

I think it would be an good idea to create a section of the forum specially dedicated to polls. This way, we could gain a better view of what are the current trends in the beliefs of the members. A poll should be open for 1 month only, and 6 months after, an new poll should be created with the same question. Any feedback will be appreciated Peace

salam dear mods . how about creating a forum in the 'Quranic Study' category exclsively for discussion on the mahkoom verses of the quran (37) ? there can be some meaningful discussion in that forum .

Peace. Its like this. Every time I wana come on, I go onto the free-minds hom page, then click "whats new" and then go to the forum section. This monht nothing new has turned up so you can imagine how frustrating it is. So I was thinking, would it not be possible to have an outomatic system which sends a PM to users every time a new item appears in the whats new section, so we can have peace of mind that we are on the cutting edge. What do others think about this?

Peace, It is possible to add a module to phpBB that allows the reading of the forum from an integrated news/forum reader like NetNewsWire or FeedDemon. For example I am able to keep up to date with all new posts on 19.org by using the following URL in my RSS news reader http//19.org/forum/rdf.php?mode=m&frm=5&l=1&n=30&basic=1 It would make it much easier to track new posts to the forum if this feature was made available on free-minds.org You can also extend the reach of the message by syndicating the content so that people who browsed it on directories would be likely to come and contribute. Peace. Recently i've been going on the excellent PM site. It gives clear directions to FM for those who want to learn, and PM for those who want to help contribute to the cause of God alone; but the thing is, on free-minds, there isn't much mention of progressivemuslims.org at all on the home page, apart from the side advert for 'the message'. I was thinking, perhaps we could highlight that, because I've been here quite a while now (over 300 posts, I didn't even realise!), but i only just realised the different purposes of these two sites, I mean, shamsul-arefein was talking about promoting free-minds, and I thought I'd make leaflet, but I had no idea that people had that project actually going on the PM site! Otherwise I would have registered on the PM forum. The second problem is that i tried to go on the PM forum site, and I ended up at free-minds again! I tried again, and the same thing keeps happening! Is it supposed to be like that? I was under the impression that they are both separate forums! Maybe the link given has an error...dunno...

Well this isn't a suggestion for the forum, but I was thinking, the way we used to have Aidid Safar's book in text format available from the home page of free-minds. I was thinking, perhaps we could put up his new edition now, becuase its certainly a lot easier on the eyes for sectarians this time round! Plus, although we may not all agree with exact details, Aidid Safar's webiste would be an excellent addition to the links page of free-minds, and personally I think its an essential, seen as themajority of forum members accept the jist of what he says. salam dear moderators . how about creating a message board for discussion about dreams and their purpose . propht joseph could interpret dreams to predict the future . my aunty's mother-in-law could also interpret the dreams very well . but she didnt tell anyone how she could do that . why not create one message board for this topic ? salam.
