Thank God you found peace with this issue. Everyone here is so helpful, with many issues, and I also read a lot more than I post.
When I accepted Islam I was living in Pakistan and of course there is no pork to be found there. By the time I came back to America, a year later, I found it easy to stay away from it.
I know brothers and sisters that took some time to leave pork after they accepted Islam. It's not right to criticize them because change is not easy for many people. The key is to try to do your best every day. God is forgiving, merciful!
By the way, I was raised christian and never found Islam until the age of 38.

I choose to avoid pork altogether because I believe God forbids it due to health reason. I dont buy it when people say that we should avoid pork because forbids it as a test without reason.

There are other things we should not eat for health reasons, but they are not forbidden.

Does this mean we can not eat food of mushrikeen and kafirs.
People of the book are further segregated as disbelievers and believers. Can we eat both of their food ?

In my opinion? If it is the case then I believe one of the reasons for fasting is so that we know how it feels to be starved so we will feel encouraged to give to the poor.
According to this, the poor are not required to fast because they already know how it feels to be starved.

People do not live anywhere if there is no water. They die.
In the desert they live around oasis.People die too without food so what is your point? Besides by pointing out the Arabian or Saharan desert Im not saying people there are living with no water because Im not as stupid as you may think, instead Im just saying that over there in some if not many places water is scarce. )

Maybe I dont know. According to hadith it is a good medicine right?
Anyway, I think in order to make my opinion a bit clearer regarding the purpose of fasting, instead of poor people I should have said that fasting encourages us to help people who are very hungry and thirsty whether they are poor people or just travelers.

What I (and perhaps Ahmed) wish to know is, if you couldn't find a reason why you should follow a prohibition or requirement that God gives would you then disobey God? Or are you saying that you have found all the reasons of God's prohibitions or requirements and consequently follow all of God's laws?

It's not necessary that the latter would follow the former (as in finding the reasons and consequently following the laws), but I agree with what's implied. However on the flip side, some say that what is not understood or known shouldn't be followed until one can know or understand. I think the latter can be explained with a caveat try to verify to the best of one's ability with the given/current knowledge/reasoning etc, to understand/know (two schools here, those who think it shouldn't be followed in the meanwhile and those who think it should for avoidance of something unknown).

I understand what you are saying. However, I personally always try my best to avoid blind following. Besides, I believe God promotes reasons so I dont think he would command us to do something which serve no beneficial purpose at all.
