    Peace aw,

Again to point this out, this verse says recite the Scripture and keep the salat. My understanding is that we are being told to do two things. 1. recite Scripture 2. keep the salat

But it doesnt say that reciting the Scripture is salat. Reciting the scripture is one thing, and salating is another. I hope im makin sence.

    Peace truth seeker.

1778 You shall uphold the connection at the setting of the sun until the darkness of the night; and the Qur?an at dawn; the Qur?an at dawn is witnessed.

Combining this with 11114 it is clear that Quran is part of salat.

      Peace aw,

1778 You shall uphold the connection at the setting of the sun until the darkness of the night; and the Qur?an at dawn; the Qur?an at dawn is witnessed.

Combining this with 11114 it is clear that Quran is part of salat.

1778 Keep the prayers on the verge of sunset untill the nights blakness; and the dawn Quran. The dawn quran has been made official.

God does not say "aqeemo du'aa"/uphold the prayer, but "aqeemo salaat"/uphold the connection/link/bond. God does not use His words haphazardly. We cannot force our meanings upon what God is saying, when he clearly uses a different word for prayer which is DU'AA.

It means "therefore, connect to your Lord".

It is misleading because God uses a different word for "prayer" in the Quran, which is "DU'AA". Various components of salat

That is why "salat" cannot be just translated as "prayer". According to the Quran, "prayer" = "DU'AA".

"OD'OO" and "TAD'OO" is "pray/call". As you can see from 17110, it is clearly PART of salat, and not salat itself.

Salaat cannot be just "prayer" because it includes recitation/reading of the Quran with comprehension, and praise, glorification, and remembrance of God, in addition to "du'aa"/prayer, as per the Quranic evidences I have presented above.

May The God guide us to the truth.

so if salli means connect to your Lord 108, then dont salli mean salat.

I understand that salat is a connection too, i believe in all of it. I believe salat = connect, prayer, suplicate, implore, ect... an thanks for pointing out that prayer specifically means dua. But is there a specific word that means " connection" or is salat the only word that is used to mean connection?

Example the quran says recite quran and keep the connection... So I know what and how to recite quran, but what is the connection and how does one connect according to these verses...Do u see the difference. 1. we are told to recite the quran 2. we are being told to also uphold the connection.

So if the connection is the recitation of quran, then why not say " you connect by reciting the quran, kneeling, praying, ect ( this is how to connect)..." instead of saying 1. recite quran 2. uphold the connection...

From my understanding is that the recitation of quran and the salat/connection are not the same.

      peace

Salat includes recitation of the Quran when we combine 1778 with 11114.

        2945 implies to

        1. Recite the Quran (both inside and outside salat).
        2. Uphold the recitation of Quran, praise, remembrance and glorification of God and praying to God at timed intervals also in an organized manner. That is how we can connect to The God (establish/uphold salat).
        3. Remember The God (both inside and outside salat).

( what does this say alone. Without combining it with 11114 ? And also it says the "dawn Quran", so if salat includes the recitation of some verses which makes salat valid, then do we recite verses in the evening salat too?)

Here is my understanding of the reading, sorry, i dont mean to post a long post but I would like to know what you think about it.

The Absolute proof constituents of the reading are

          1. After making the intention for the reading to say

1780 ?My Lord, admit me an entrance of truth and let me exit an exit of truth, and grant me from Yourself a support to victory.?

1781 ?The truth has come and falsehood has perished. Falsehood is always bound to perish!?

          Proofs
(1777 This is the way of those whom We sent before you of Our messengers. And you will not find any change in Our way.
1778 Keep the evening prayers at sunset until it has become completely dark, and the prayer and reading at dawn; for the dawn prayer and reading is established.
So wake up from the night and pray and read, a duty for you as was for those before you, God willing your Lord grant you a blessed position.
1780 And say ?My Lord, admit me an entrance of truth and let me exit an exit of truth, and grant me from Yourself a support to victory.?
1781 And say ?The truth has come and falsehood has perished. Falsehood is always bound to perish!?
1782 And We send down from the Qur?an what is a healing and mercy to the believers. And it only increases the wicked in their loss.)

          1. And to say

2397 "My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the whispers of the sneaking devils. And I seek refuge in You my Lord. Lest they should come near."

          Proofs
(1698 When you read the Qur?an, you shall seek refuge with God from Satan the outcast.)
(2396 Push away evil with that which is better. We are better aware of what they describe.
2397 And say ?My Lord, I seek refuge with you from the whispers of the devils.?
2398 ?And I seek refuge with you O Lord that they should come near.?

          1. To read

          Proofs
(1778 Keep the evening prayers at sunset until it has become completely dark, and the prayer and reading at dawn; for the dawn prayer and reading is established.

So wake up from the night and pray and read, a duty for you as was for those before you, God willing your Lord grant you a blessed position.)

73 O you covered with your garments. Stand the night except a little. Half of it or a little less. Or a little more, and read the Quran. We will send you a heavy message. The first half of the night is better and perfect for receiving a message. You may ten to your work and rest during the day.)

The reading of the Scriptures two times daily is obligatory upon all Submitters (Muslims- male and female). And must be observed two times daily. The two daily readings are

          1. The Dawn reading 2. The evening reading.

The same place you pray/ connect is were you do your reading. ( e.g. the reading is done alongside the prayers.)

I think salat = connection and prayer also.....I believe that the prayer is the connection we should keep.

The "connection" consist of the following parts

          1. The teachings/sermone 20132
          2. The prayers/ salat
          3. The reading of Quran
          4. The purification

So if salat dont mean "the prayers," then the connection would only consist of the following three parts

          1. The sermone
          2. The reading of Quran
          3. The purification

......I do not find were it says in quran that " dua" is a part of the " connection." Therefore if we look at it from ur view then we are only requred to do the three above and not to pray to God.

Hope im not causen confusion, just seeking truth.

          peace

I already gave you the verse where "du'aa"/prayer is part if "salat"/connection

17110 Say ?Pray (od'oo) to God or pray (od'oo) to the Almighty. However you pray (tad'oo), for to Him are the best names.? And do not be too loud in making your connection, nor too quiet; but seek a path in between.
17111 And say ?Praise be to God who has not taken a son, nor does He have a partner in sovereignty, nor does He have an ally out of weakness.? And glorify Him greatly.

17110 makes it clear that "du'aa" to God is part of "salat"

what does odoo mean and duaa? I dont see the word duaa in 17110. Or are they the same?

              I know that call can mean pray to/call upon/ call on/ shout at/ yell / invoke/ implore/ ect....

just as salat can mean connection/ prayers/ supllication/ ect...

So you told me why salat caint be translated as prayer, so why caint odoo be translated as prayer if that is the proper word instead of call?

                Peace be upon you,

Recite the BOOK (not scripture) and maintain the programming(salaat)

Al Kitaab is all around and within you, it is the LAWS upon which all is created. It is the Universe that God SPEAKS into existence.

We are to study the universe and when we discover LAW we are to program this law into our minds.

For example, we find that eating certain foods is bad for you, so we program this into our minds so that we stop eating it, or smoking it, or cheating om our spouse, or stealing, etc etc

They are the same. "Od'oo" is the verb meaning "pray" and "du'aa" is the noun meaning "prayer".

                      Peace all,

I was just browsing to see other opinions on as-salat and I noticed this thread so I'd like to share what I've found about the word 'raka'. First of all, according to the sunni concept of prayer being a certain number of 'raka'aat' units and a certain number of 'sajdah' units, I noticed that the reading doesn't even use these forms of these words. One surah is named as-Sajdah but that form of the word is no where in the reading. Clearly shows the fabrication of their prayer.

ALL the verses that use the verb form of 'raka'a' use it in the command form 243, 343, 2277, 7748

These verses use it in the 'faa'il' form the person doing it 243, 343, 555, 9112, 3824

These verses use it also in the 'faa'il' form but for the plural 2125, 2226, 4829

I found it interesting that in my contemporary arabic-arabic dictionary it has the usual meanings of raka'a listed, the physical aspect. However, when I was looking up 'khashi'a', meaning humbly submissive/ fearing, I found raka'a listed, so my first clue.

The main verses that caused the biggest problems about 'raka'a' being physical for me is the one about Dawud 'falling' 'bowing' and verse 7748 And when it is said to them (the mujrimun, disbelieving criminals) 'irka'a' 'bow' they don't 'bow'. Now why on earth would we tell such people to just bow? Of course the usual additions to the verse is (in prayer) but that still makes no sense, you wouldn't tell them to do the sunni prayer before they even believe. However, asking them to be HUMBLE? Certainly and I find that 'humble' fits in all of these verses. How many times does the god describe the disbelievers as 'arrogant', that we should seek refuge from arrogance? Also, from the form of the word used you see that it's a continual state to be in not just sometimes. It makes perfect sense that when a little 'arrogance' hit Dawud and he judged without hearing both sides he automatically realized what went wrong and fell humble and repenting.

Let me know if this helps the initial question about 'raka'a'. I just noticed that no one posted all of the verses so I thought that I would do so.

                      Umm Tariq

                            Assalaam Alaikum

The 'performance' of Salat is defined in the following ayahs...

                            Lets start with 'Raka'...

Who seeth you standing forth (in Prayer),

Allathee yaraka heena taqoomu ('Ya' is silenced in the recitation)

And thy movements among those who prostrate themselves,

                            Wa taqallubaka fee alssajideena

                            Salat.....

                              Salam Muslimtruthrevealed,

                              Assalaam Alaikum

The 'performance' of Salat is defined in the following ayahs...

                              Lets start with 'Raka'...

Who seeth you standing forth (in Prayer),

Allathee yaraka heena taqoomu ('Ya' is silenced in the recitation)

And thy movements among those who prostrate themselves,

                              Wa taqallubaka fee alssajideena

is an 'active participle' indicating effort or action associated with the use of the word.

More importantly its NOT what the word 'means' it's what the word 'represents', that is important.

Now we all know what 'means', would you be so kind as to making clear your point please?

I don't know how you are interpreting this word and linking it to RAKA3A (To bow)...

The word is YARAAKA ... from the verb RA'AA (past tense and also root) - YARAA (Present Tense) which means TO SEE

YARAA(he sees) KA (you) <--- Thats the correct translation of this word...

Again, no idea why you silenced the YA when it never has to be silenced and is always promounced in all recitals....

Listen to this verse and pay special attention to the YA

Personally, I dont know why you are arguing the point.

The word is raka, period, whether one hafiz recites the 'ya' or another doesnt is NOT the point.

                                    the word is 'Raka'.....

Now what is a 'raka'? What action and effort does the word represent?

Definitely... You are forcing the meaning here... The word there is Yaraaka... How are you reading it raaka?? Or are you omitting the YA purposely to prove your point... Consult your dictionary again and look for the word 'TO SEE' .... The verb in arabic is Yaraa ...

Its funny how you are just using a 'syllabe' from a whole word and distorting the meaning altogether....

                                        Assalaam Alaikum...

Again your focusing on ONE, literal interpretation....

yaraka heena taqoomu / We see you standing in (taqoomu) from root word Qama from which stems the word Qiyam which is part of a Raka

Next ayah...Allah is giving you the context of 'yaraka heena taqoomu'.....

And thy movements among those who prostrate themselves,

                                        Wa taqallubaka fee alssajideena

What I get from these ayahs is the description of 'Raka' which begins with a 'Standing Position' and completes from a 'Prostration Position' and the 'interactive' movements between those positions.

The word 'taqallu-baka' has a conceptual meaning that also indicates a correlation with the reference to 'Baaka', Raka & Salat

The dictionaries are NOT going to give you conceptual or esoteric meanings.

Lets address the grammatical references as it relates to 'yaraka' /

"The Personal pronoun Kaf / is added for emphasis and is not purely for Pleonasm without adding to the meaning" Dictionary of the Holy Quran page 196

"Often, pleonasm is understood to mean a word or phrase which is useless, clich?d, or repetitive, but a pleonasm can also be simply an unremarkable use of idiom. It can even aid in achieving a specific linguistic effect, be it social, poetic, or literary. In particular, pleonasm sometimes serves the same function as rhetorical repetition ? it can be used to reinforce an idea, contention or question, rendering writing clearer and easier to understand.? pleonastic phrases can help ensure that the entire meaning gets across even if some of the words get lost." http//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pleonasm

Thus the 'idea' or 'concept' expressed in Sura Ash-Shu`ara' 26.218 & 219 is Raka

In Ash-Shu`ara' 26.218, when you 'strip' the 'ya' from the verb yaraka leaves you with 'Raka'

Ash-Shu`ara' 26.219 suggests that the 'movements' associated with those who 'Prostrate' are recognized as 'Raka', and in 'reality' those who prostrate are performing a 'unit' of action called 'Raka'

'Allah see's you standing, performing in Raka'

It is He who has revealed Al-Kitab / The Book over you. In it are muhkamat / governing ayats / signs. They are the mother of Al-Kitab / The Book and others are mutashabehat / resembling (ayats / signs). So in whose heart is deviation then they follow that resembles from it seeking captivation and its interpretation and no one knows its interpretation except Allah. Those who are stable in knowledge they say ?we believe with it all is from the nearness of our Lord.? And none remembers except those who well informed / well versed (regarding Allah?s guidance)

                                          Peace,

Well you are proving your point quite well, however, I do not think that we can come to such conclusions by adding and removing words or alphabets from the verses... Since Allah does not lack words, He could have used the word RAKAA plainly... why encrypt it deeply in other words... The Quran is said to be Al Moubeen.... If the quran should be interpreted this way, then i assure you that the majority of those who read the Quran will definitely fail to understand the true message...

However, this is my view on this...

                                          Allah knows best...

                                          Ma'salaam
