Respectfully.Can't hardly wait for this year's fasting. I'm working in the kitchen with prohibited meat but the circumstances have forced me into it, otherwise i'd quit.
Even though i work in the kitchen, Thank God, i got food perfectly under control, Thank God.Glory be to our God.

The nature of your job is difficult and fasting could make it dangerous for you. I think you can do it but you should have started conditioning your body to get used to it. However, God tells us that if it is difficult then we can feed the poor instead. Why not fast on your days off and feed the poor on your days where you work.
2184 A few number of days; however, if any of you is ill or traveling,
then the same number from different days; and as for those who
can do so but with difficulty, they may redeem by feeding the
needy. And whoever does good voluntarily, then it is better for
him. And if you fast it is better for you if only you knew.Peace

Thank you for the bringing this quran verse to my attention. I remember reading this and it's good to know just in case i do have to drink so i don't suffer heat stroke on the job. I feel you are right, I should have taken the time to condition myself earlier...hopefully this time next year i will be working indoors as a medical assistant and won't sweat out so much fluid throughout the day inshallah. God willing I will do the best I can this Ramadan, God is most merciful if I do have to drink I can try again and again throughout the month and if i do slip I can feed the poor, which God knows I should be doing more of anyway as I haven't been paying hardly any zakat lately -

Ramadan starts in middle east on saturday 22nd Aug and on 23rd in Pakistan.

Salamun alaikum people.
Ramadan starts at 22 August in Indonesia, and it's about Isya prayer time as I type this. Masjids start to hold salat tarawih... my mum and sis just went out. I don't go with them.
Out of curiosity, I searched for hadith that supposedly tell people to do salat tarawih.
You know what I find?
Nothing*.
Salat tarawih doesn't even have a basis in hadith.
Now how should I tell my mum and sis about this...
*)There is a Hadith told by Aisha, recorded in Sahih Muslim, that said the Messenger used to perform salat at Ramadan nights, and people flocked to do salat with him. But the Messenger then stopped doing it because he does not want it to be considered obligatory...

Quite true, bro afridi. I come across those hadith as I did my own homework on tarawih.
Even with hadith sources, if tarawih was dropped by the Messenger and called a bid'ah with less value than the night salat (tahajud) by Umar, it's quite surprising how people still managed to consider it something good. It's not in the Qur'an, it's not even suggested by hadith, even called bid'ah by Umar, and yet...

I fast every year...although I do find it difficult. Not because of lack of food/drink. That I can get used to. Its difficult because of waking up early to eat (I have to eat something light and have my tea and water) and then I cant sleep as the children will wake up within an hour. So its the lack of sleep i cant get used to. But there is nothing like the satisfaction you get at the end of the day especially when you find it a challenge. But I am lucky our fasting throughout the year is between 5 am and 7 pm give or take 20-30 mins variation.

I have the timetable for Ramadan (London). It says fasting starts 409am, Fajr prayer 429am and Fast ends 810pm. However, sunrise for 23rd Aug is 559am and sunset is 2006pm. Is there a more natural way to observe the start of fast and end of fast?
