    Peace,

    Male/ Female Male

    Age 24

    Nationality American

Parents background ( if different from nationality) American

Born as a Muslim? ( in a muslim family) No

    Level of education In College

Are you from a city or from the country? Suburbs

How did you first come to learn about Quranism ( for a lack of a better word) ? I learned about the official movement recently, but I've always doubted traditional Islam.

And at what age? I took my Shahadah at 17, but learned about the official movement when I was 24.

Do you personaly know fellow Quranist or are you alone with your view in your social network? I have yet to meet one face to face.

Do you primarily reject Hadith on the basis of authority or authenticity? Authenticity at first, then Authority. I first started to doubt the authenticity when I learned that most every sect followed different Hadiths yet all had the same Qur'an, which meant that the only thing that separated the sects was the Hadith. More recently I've done my own studies on the authenticity of the Hadith. The results haven't surprised me.

      Age21

      NationalityAustralian

      Parents backgroundAustralian

      Born as a MuslimNo

Level of EducationTertiary Preparation (year 11 and 12)

Are you from the city or country city, but grew up in a country town

How did you first learn about Quranism? When I converted I only read the Quran. Then i found out about hadith so i read into them. I saw they clearly contradict the Quran, and that the Quran never speaks of them. So i researched abit on the internet to see if I was the only Muslim who felt this way, then I found this site and many others.

And at what ageI converted to Islam when I was nearly 20, then followed Quran only about 3months after.

Do you personally know fellow Quranists or are you alone with your view in your social network? No i do not personally know any, most Muslims I know are Sunni or Shia. Some Muslims I tell say that I am not a Muslim. So this and a few other sites are really where I can express myself.

Do you primarily reject Hadith on the basis of authority or authenticity? Both. The Quran is the only authority for me and the contents in the hadith show they are not authentic.

I'm sorry, but the words "Quranism/Quranists" are a pet-peeve of mine... Please do not use this word to classify people who believe in God alone. We are simply Muslims who follow only the Qur'an. We are not sunnists/shites/quranist or any other man made word which implies or has defined boundaries.
6159 Those who have divided their system and become sects, you are not with them in anything. Their matter will be with God, then He will inform them of what they had done.

sorry...had to get that of my chest...end of rant.....

Salam Alaikum everybody and thank you for your time.

My Name is Jonas. I'm 26 old and I'm studing politics, history and religion of the Middle East at the university in Copenhagen.
This semester i've chosen a course called "Lived Islam" which is a course about different types of Islam. I've long been lurking on your great page here and wanted to make my exam assignment on the Quranist ( to put it under one name).
I've read the books by Rashid Khalifa, Edip Yuksel, Kassim Ahmad ect and now I wanted to hear from the believers if you would be so kind answering some short questions about yourself it would be greatly appreciated.

          Dear Jonas,

I am interested in the results of your research. I will share this with some of my contacts and try to direct them here so that they post their answers. It would be interesting if you could also include a question about their political position on the so-called "war on terror". Or listing their list for top 5 problems facing the world and top 5 positive global events/developments or something like that. Perhaps, a question about how to promote the message of the Quran to masses might also elicit some creative and inspiring ideas.

As for the word Quranist, what about including a few alternatives too in your final introduction of this research, such as, non-sectarian Muslims, Rational Monotheists, Muslim Reformists, Peacemakers etc, since most of us do not call ourselves Quranists; it is a label generally used to depict us by our opponents.

PS You should also note the works of Layth al-Shaiban (Saudi Arabia), Prof. Caner Taslaman (Turkey), Dr. Abdur Rab (Bengladesh-USA), Prof. Aisha Musa (USA), Dr. Ahmad Mansour (Egypt-USA), Arnold Mol (Holland), Dr. Shabbir (Pakistan-USA), Dr. Asghar Engineer (India), Prof. Ali Fazely (Iran-USA), Wakas, Ayman, and few others.

You may post this at 19.org/forum site too.

          Peace,
          Edip

"quranist" is a common, descriptive noun. It is not a title/sect/a proper noun (and neither is muslim, but I digress) . There is no defined quranist ideology. Sects have very specific guidelines, you'll be hard pressed to find two 'quranists' who agree on the basic issues, and that's the beauty of it. Individuality. Choice. Discussion.

These other sects you speak of refer to themselves as Muslim as well. Unity for unity's sake is not logical. Does the Quran say its okay to align ourselves with people who are not in harmony? People who would declare you apostates? Suggesting 'quranism' is a sect is building a straw man argument. No quranist I know of refers to themselves as a part of some imaginary sect.

Anyways, this is off-topic, so If you want to discuss this further, create a new thread.

              Peace

First of all thank you all for contributing to the thread and answering my questions. I appreciate it a lot and hope that it will continue. bravo

to willreadit Thank you for your post. I would like to share my findings with you but I'm not sure that my level of investigation will be of any intrest to you. My exam will mostly be about defining the nature of " Quranism ", look at its arguments and historical background and because this is not known by ordinary scholars all this has to be explained first.
I made this poll to try to get a bigger picture of the believers and whether or not I would be able to see a pattern.

to sonnie Thank you for your post. I understand your reasoning about the word Quranist but I used it to distiguish between the islam that people were born into and the islam that they are follwing now. Therefore I could not simply use the word "muslim" because it would have been confusing.

to Edip Yuksel Thank you for contributing. Like with willreadit I'm a humble to hear that you think you could benefit of my research unfortunately I doubt that it will actually be so. You've got a lot of great ideas for additional questions which I will take in consideration but I don't think with the amount of time I have avalible to this exam that I can reach that far in my research.

Thank you for pointing out additional works I will definitely look into that, some of them I know but a lot of them I don't so thanks again.

to Jack Thank you for answering on my behalf in regards to the use of the word " Quranism", it backed up the concept that I allready had on this issue. Thank you for contributing.

                  Peace everybody..

                    Peace Jonas,

Also, I would like to make it a point that Dr. Khalifa is NOT affiliated with us. It is true that he urged a return to the Qur'an, as we do, but he also claimed himself to be a Messenger of God - a claim he directly invalidated when he admitted to molesting a minor. Those that follow Dr. Khalifa are in a different category all of their own. The herald him as a Messenger of God and get quite offended when people dare bring up the fact that he molested a minor. Following false Messengers is forbidden and thus why they are not of us.

I know that seems a bit elitist, but it follows the same logic as to why the Nation of Islam are not accepted as Muslims by the rest of the Muslim communities They follow a man who dubbed himself as Elijah Muhammad and formed a personalized version of Islam that is both racist and insulting to the Abrahamic faith.

                    Just thought I'd clarify sun

Thank you Jinn for claryfying that. I'm aware that DR. Khalifa has some very different views in perhaps the most important issue but I still felt that it was a good idea to read his books because of his Quran only approach.
Thank you for contributing and setting it straight though..

Do you primarily reject Hadith on the basis of authority or authenticity? I am perhaps not a true Qur'anist because I tend to accept the Hadith that make sense or seem reliable. I do, however, realize that hearsay is inherently unreliable and especially regarding religion there is a lot of motivation for fabrication. Hence I accept those Hadith that do not conflict with the Qur'an and seem beneficial.
