I do not want you to think I have not read your " post 1 reply". I read it. It has not solved anything as far as this discussion is concerned. Why?
1- Your explanation is just another opinion, although you quote some verses, they are not evidence of what you go on to explain.
2- your explanation about " salat wusta " also has no evidence provided with it. It is just an opinion.
It does not include " verse/s" from Qoran confirming that explanation.You see brother khan, just because we use links/ other peoples views/ideas, does not always mean it is a solution unless clear verse/s from Qoran are given as evidence.
So that is why the discussion goes on.
Is it 3, 5 ...? Keep discussing!

I believe this reference is from Qoran! Is this " Salawat + salat wusta"?Peace.

This is my point which I would like to be proven - the rakaat amount being in numbers doesn't prove anything, because like the brother illustriously demostated, there are tonnes of combinations linking to the number 17.
In Edip Yuksel's post (and a few others here), there is a quotation from the Qur'an where Allah tells us that the named salaat are obligatory - and it is my understanding that only the before sunrise, after sunset and "middle" prayers are named.
MMKhan has further stated that the middle prayer could be Juma.
Meaning either 2 prayers daily, before the day and at the end of the day. (or) a third prayer in the middle.
My whole point on this issue is that this makes a lot more sense than 5 daily prayers.
Because Allah is All Knowing, Most Merciful, and He would have known when He sent the Qur'an that this day in age would come where most people are either working full time or are in full time education. Anybody in that situation finds it almost impossible to pray the 5 daily prayers on time.
Allah said He has made the religion easy for us, and He has not made it a burden.
So, 2/3 prayers a day is certainly not a burden, anybody can do them.
Whereas 5 daily prayers; hardly anyone can do them, even if they wanted too (because of work/education comitments.)

2 salat, or 3 salat or 5 salat or... a day or no salat etc...
Many are still asking the following questions
Is there a salat as a ritual?
Is there a minimum number per day then it is up to us?
Is there a certain number per day, no more ,no less?
Is there a Congregational salat on Friday? is it obligatory?
Are the timings of the daily salat flexible? How flexible? is there a range of time? what defines it?
Have they all been named ?
Is it up to us? Is there a common way? how and why?
And so on....
Is the discussion ongoing?
This is an opportunity for those who think they can close this discussion?

You do not like numbers do you? especially 19?

I have trouble myself making the five, but I consider them as opportunities
rather than a problem.Therefore, be patient in the face of their utterances, and praise and glorify your Lord before sunrise (1)and before sunset(2). And during the night (3)glorify Him, as well at both (4)(5)ends of the day, that you may be happy.

The middle prayer would be asr since it is the third prayer of the day
Also the prayers do not have to be named in the Quran because rituals that come to us

I have a small question about the prayer times. Today my devout Sunni colleague was very upset as she was unable to do her noon prayer at the "exact" time as she normally does. I suggested she could still do it as it was not yet time for the afternoon prayer. She did not understand what I was saying and repeated I have missed it. I prefer to do my noon prayer when I get home from work around 2pm as there is only a Sunni place at work for prayers. Her comment made me wonder if I too am "missing" my prayers by doing them during the the time period before the next one is due. I read in Quran somewhere that we should hasten to do our prayers and that there is a correct time for prayers. Now I am wondering what are the main points of discussion supporting a time period as opposed to an exact time?

I have 3 children, let's say 1 is called 'a kid', 2 are called 'kids' and 3 or more are called 'salawat'. Their names are Fred, Joe and John. You are taking the salawat (all 3 of them) out to the park but lil Joe is one that loves to do a runner... So I say 'look after the salawat (meaning all 3 kids) and especially the middle one.............the middle one is Joe and he is included in the 3 but because I say and especially the middle one doesn't mean it's an addition to the 3 kids (salawat) but that there are extra instructions to do with one of the 3.......

1778 Straighten alSalaat at the sinking of the sun until the darkness of the night and reading of the dawn. Indeed, reading of dawn is ever witnessed.As per your understanding a single alSalaat has to be straighten from noon TILL darkness of the night. And ila means till, you can check in 56.

56 O you who have believed, when you rise to prayer, wash your faces and your forearms TILL the elbows and wipe over your heads and wash your feet to the ankles. And if you are in a state of janabah, then purify yourselves. But if you are ill or on a journey or one of you comes from the place of relieving himself or you have contacted women and do not find water, then seek clean earth and wipe over your faces and hands with it. Allah does not intend to make difficulty for you, but He intends to purify you and complete His favor upon you that you may be grateful.Hope this may help you inshaAllah.

then sets (maghrib) until the darkness (Isha)What do you think of 20130 is it 5 salat?
Therefore, be patient in the face of their utterances, and praise and glorify your Lord before sunrise (1)and before sunset(2). And during the night (3)glorify Him, as well at both (4)(5)ends of the day, that you may be happy.

even if you did take that as prayer time I would still say that before sunrise and before sunset are the same as both ends of the day. Both ends of the day prayers to me would be Fajr and Maghrib. I agree with mmkhan though, that is not about prayer (salat) it's about praise, the idea being have constant praise of God in all you do all the time. Alhamdulillah.
