RED Like I said they do it because they think Allah ordered them to do it. There are also some who do it because they are afraid of being harassed by their family/society and some do it just to be part of a group and maybe some other reasons but the biiiiiiig majority do it because they think Allah ordered them to do that.
BLUE If they think Allah ordered them to eat 10 bananas then they will eat 10 bananas. It is not you or me who is ordering them to eat 10 bananas so that they can question us for the reason behind it but it's Allah Himself. Not doing it is equal to disobeying Allah.
GREEN They fast from food and drink BUT the reason why they fast is not food related. Why some waste food or overeat after fasting may be caused by hunger, they overestimate how much they can eat OR because they want to prepare for the next day so eat more than normal OR just because eating a lot has never been a sin or some other reasons. But the point is that the whole idea behind the fasting from food and drink was never food/drink related.

Eid is not part of YOUR deen for billion others it is.
And The whole ramadan fasting is only part of YOUR deen, it is not you who decides what The Deen is. -
Allah has never prohibited to have a feast. Allah forbids evil.
Celebrating eid is only forbidden when evil is involved.But those who celebrate eid will automatically do the rituals, and the rituals are found in the hadiths, hence it is sinful...
Also, the whole idea of eid al Fitr and eid al Adha are from hadiths...You won't find their name in Quran, but hadiths mention them alot. ALOT.
The evil in this is upholding the hadiths! (Unless you find proof in Quran about celebrating both eids and doing the rituals)

Or maybe some do it because fasting for odd 30 days or whatever is a feat that deserves a bit of a party. My Irish Catholic friend celebrates Lent by breaking open bags of chocolate and cookies (he usually fasts sugar), meeting up with family and friends and generally making a day of it. There's also St. Patrick's day in the middle and the traditional break but lets not go there. Invariably around the 'conventional' Eid, you'll have a few well wishers getting swarmed by what's the point, it's not allowed, or you're all just brainwashed pagans etc particularly in certain groups on my FB, and I think if they are really so into breaking traditions maybe they can start by not having the annual whinge fest. Then again, there's an another 'big' event yet to come. Looking forward to all the angst all over again, like clockwork ) -

AmenuelI stopped fasting in that way too. I never held the rituals of Eid even when I was a sunni.

I guess you also do not celebrate new years day, halloween, your (or someone elses) birthday, no feast when you (or some else) have a baby, your (or someone else) wedding, etc etc etc
They are all not in the quran. -

I know right, I was forced to finish all the biscuits and chocolates they gave with coffees because someone couldn't have sugar. It was almost as if I was being fattened for the eventual feast. It was all very unfriendly.

No worries, I wanted to know what your thoughts are on still using the hadiths and/or sources to decide what you can or cannot do other than the quran? ALOT" ...so was curious, that if say, a celebration after a month long fast is mentioned in the hadith but not in the quran and someone decides to celebrate it, you say it's upholding the hadiths and sinful. But if it's not mentioned in the quran, and someone wants to celebrate it...you're using the hadith to decide that it's not on and a sin 'because it's mentioned in it'. That's kinda odd because it means you're using the hadith in some way to justify what is a sin and what isn't. Wouldn't it be better to leave the hadith out of it entirely and use the quran to justify what it is we can or can't do?

We know that using the hadith/other books in place of the quran for divine directives is iffy, but does this mean that someone who realizes this and isn't doing it because they think God ordained it, also wrong? Just because it's mentioned in the hadith or other books doesn't automatically make it a sin, it's the intention that counts right? -
