I didn't celebrate Eid. Yep, it has nothing to do wit the deen, but again, God doesn't forbid celebrations.

Fine. To think "Allah" ordered something can also be called delusion. But on the other hand, it is apparently easy to become deluded in this world.

The purpose of fasting is still under question if you end it by eating a lot of food. To learn restraint and then act like you have no restraint.

Anyways, we will now enter circular reasoning as the arguments are put forth. I have no more to add.

I stopped fasting in that way too. I never held the rituals of Eid even when I was a sunni.

But those who celebrate eid will automatically do the rituals, and the rituals are found in the hadiths, hence it is sinful...
Also, the whole idea of eid al Fitr and eid al Adha are from hadiths...You won't find their name in Quran, but hadiths mention them alot. ALOT.
The evil in this is upholding the hadiths! (Unless you find proof in Quran about celebrating both eids and doing the rituals)
          http//ahadith.co.uk/chapter.php?cid=54

Read how many times they are mentioned.

          Salam

          Salaam,

I guess you also do not celebrate new years day, halloween, your (or someone elses) birthday, no feast when you (or some else) have a baby, your (or someone else) wedding, etc etc etc
They are all not in the quran.

Or maybe some do it because fasting for odd 30 days or whatever is a feat that deserves a bit of a party. My Irish Catholic friend celebrates Lent by breaking open bags of chocolate and cookies (he usually fasts sugar), meeting up with family and friends and generally making a day of it. There's also St. Patrick's day in the middle and the traditional break but lets not go there. Invariably around the 'conventional' Eid, you'll have a few well wishers getting swarmed by what's the point, it's not allowed, or you're all just brainwashed pagans etc particularly in certain groups on my FB, and I think if they are really so into breaking traditions maybe they can start by not having the annual whinge fest. Then again, there's an another 'big' event yet to come. Looking forward to all the angst all over again, like clockwork

RED hypno You are not allowed to have other friends then muslims, are you not afraid of hell?

btw I fast every night when I go to sleep from food, drink, talk, sight, etc

If they are found in hadiths or any other books like the Pauline apistles, then no I wont celebrate it. I would uphold other than Quran and it is sinful.
This is what I mean If a book that isn't from God but is claimed to be from God, divine or dedicated to God (in the sense of rituals), I should avoid them altogether, or I would uphold what God hasn't authorized, example hadiths, pauline epistles...

I know right, I was forced to finish all the biscuits and chocolates they gave with coffees because someone couldn't have sugar. It was almost as if I was being fattened for the eventual feast. It was all very unfriendly.

Maybe you could continue that in the daylight hours for the sake of collecting more blessings, I know I'd bless you.

Do you perhaps feel that you're still being unduly affected by the hadiths if you're using it to exclude what you do or don't do other than the Quran?

Especially for you I had this part "There are also some who do it because they are afraid of being harassed by their family/society and some do it just to be part of a group and maybe some other reasons but the biiiiiiig majority do it because they think Allah ordered them to do that."
I guess you missed that part.

I am 100% sure you belong to one of those groups yes

Eid is not part of YOUR deen for billion others it is.
And The whole ramadan fasting is only part of YOUR deen, it is not you who decides what The Deen is.

hmm You still haven't named my group, try again.

No worries, I wanted to know what your thoughts are on still using the hadiths and/or sources to decide what you can or cannot do other than the quran? You mention "the whole idea of eid al Fitr and eid al Adha are from hadiths...You won't find their name in Quran, but hadiths mention them alot. ALOT" ...so was curious, that if say, a celebration after a month long fast is mentioned in the hadith but not in the quran and someone decides to celebrate it, you say it's upholding the hadiths and sinful. But if it's not mentioned in the quran, and someone wants to celebrate it...you're using the hadith to decide that it's not on and a sin 'because it's mentioned in it'. That's kinda odd because it means you're using the hadith in some way to justify what is a sin and what isn't. Wouldn't it be better to leave the hadith out of it entirely and use the quran to justify what it is we can or can't do?

If they are found in hadiths or any other books like the Pauline apistles, then no I wont celebrate it. I would uphold other than Quran and it is sinful.

We know that using the hadith/other books in place of the quran for divine directives is iffy, but does this mean that someone who realizes this and isn't doing it because they think God ordained it, also wrong? Just because it's mentioned in the hadith or other books doesn't automatically make it a sin, it's the intention that counts right?

                          The intention,yes.

Though I never use the hadiths to look for laws, I just needed to know if eid al Fitr was a celebration found in Quran, and when I didn't find it, I googled "eid and Quran", and found a site explaining that eid isn't mentioned in the Quran but in the "sunnah of the prophet" (hadiths).

So, we know in Quran we are told we shouldn't uphold other books than the Quran.

To answer your question; no, I don't use the hadiths to decide things. I only use the Quran, and explained above why I even mentioned hadiths.

                          Then finally we must remember this verse;

1736 And do not uphold what you have no knowledge of. For the hearing, eyesight, and heart, all these you are responsible for.

Quran doesn't forbid celebration generally speaking, and it is sinful for me to say that it is forbidden to celebrate, however we must be aware of the origins of the thousands of celebrations, and the consequences of celebrating these.

Upholding hadiths. If you're still unsure, the consequence is sinning and disobeying God.

As for halloween and christmas, I don't know why they are celebrated or for what.

Here we are to seek help in Allah alone .. Ramadan was never by the sighting of the moon ... The question is why do we have Ramadan? We have Ramadan because it was the month when the prophet receive revelation ..ok Everybody check out Surah 53 An-Najm "the star" Allah tells us... by the star when it sets.. Your companion has not strayed nor had he been in error.. Nor does he speak from inclination.. It is a revelation revealed.. So ok let's stop right there and reflect Allah is telling us that by a setting of a star revelation came to the prophet .. "NOT THE MOON" now the question is well what star is Allah talking about it's a million stars in the sky which one? As Yu continue to read the verse Yu will get to surah 53 verse 49 Allah says he is Lord of Al-Shiraaa, Sirius!! So the star Sirius is the star that we must sight.. Now hold that thought go to surah 97 Al Qadr.. Allah says the Quran came down during the night of decree and what can make you know what is the night of decree? It is better then a thousand months, peace it is until the emergence of dawn .. Dawn means Fajr in Arabic .. So what fajr is Allah talking about its Fajr every day .. Put surah 97 together with surah 53 .. If Yu ponder Allah is telling us that the Quran came down while Sirius star is setting the sun is rising at Fajr .. Only on November 26 the sun is rising at dawn and Sirius star is setting they literally meet at the horizon !! What makes something special? When it happens once a year right ? Every year it does this .. So Ramadan would be in November going in to December .. And if I'm wrong brothers and sisters correct me but how can I be in error if I follow Quran alone .. Also it can't be the moon for sure!! Also research the 3 false dieties Allah mention in Surah 53 Al Lat Al Manat and Al uzza .. Al manat was worshiped as the black stone .. If Yu notice millions of people go to Mecca today to circle the Kaaba for Hajj ? Hmm well why do they kiss the black stone that's on the corner of the Kaaba saying it forgives sins? I thought only Allah forgive sins? But most people are heedless to Allahs signs And the hour is approaching .. And whose to say that mecca is the holy place .. Hmm that's another story though .. READ YALL ALLAH GON REVEAL IT TO THE BELIEVERS OF THE QURAN ALONE
